浅谈“责任编辑”的英译
浅谈“责任编辑”的英译作者：廖宜顺来源：《中国科技术语》2009年第02期摘要：文章在调查了各类出版物中“责任编辑”的英文翻译情况，归纳出较为常见的三种译法，并分别进行简要分析后，提出了个人看法与建议。
关键词：责任编辑，翻译，调查在读书看报时，细心的读者会注意到责任编辑的名字常出现在图书和期刊的版权页上或报纸的各个版面中。
一般在中文学术期刊中，还会看到责任编辑及其名字的英文翻译，当然，名字通常都译为汉语拼音，这个没有异议。
但是，关于“责任编辑”这个词的译名却五花八门，本文对此试举几例，并略作分析。
笔者查阅了二十多种比较权威的出版物，包括期刊和工具书，发现将“责任编辑”译为“responsible editor”“executive editor”和“managing editor”这三种情况较多，其中尤以responsible editor最为常见。
不妨先了解一下什么是责任编辑。
责任编辑简称责编，是指“出版部门负责对某一稿件进行审阅、整理、加工等工作的编辑人员”[1]。
国家新闻出版总署2008年发布的《出版专业技术人员职业资格管理规定》将责任编辑界定为“在出版单位为保证出版物的质量符合出版要求，专门负责对拟出版的作品内容进行全面审核和加工整理并在出版物上署名的编辑人员”[2]。
在中国的各种出版工作中，责任编辑都是不可缺少的重要人员。
有的报纸每个版面都有一名责任编辑；有的杂志甚至每一篇文章都有相应的责任编辑，而在学术期刊中，往往是几位责任编辑轮流负责各期稿件的编辑工作。
将“责任编辑”译为responsible editor仿佛是顺理成章之事。
但是，笔者还查阅了二十多种权威英文出版物，均不见responsible editor这一表达法。
responsible 用在名词前通常表示“needing sb who can be trusted and relied on; involving important duties”，即“责任重大的；需要可靠的人负责的”，例如，a responsible job/position[3]。
