When one fails in his attempt in doing something, he often feels upset. Some people may yield to failure and flinch from it. But others will stick to and achieve the final success.Success is what everyone expects. It may lead to fame and glory. There is an old saying which is known to everybody -men and women,old and young, that is Failure is the mother of success. Sometimes people have to cope with many mistakes and failures in order to reach the successful finals. Success often provides confidence and satisfaction, nevertheless failure is accompanied by bitterness , saddness, and suffering. It seems people have to learn through each experience, as success doesn‘t always fall from heaven.We have to create a success by our hard work.
1．Subjects The subjects are college students, who respectively come from the Harbin Institution of Technology . We distributed 486 questionnaires, and resumed 466 of them. Since almost everyone has met failure and success in their lives. How does everybody think about them can be partly seen from the data of the research.
2．Instruments The instrument for the research is a questionnaire,which consists of six "Yes or No"s. And students must choice one depending on their own experience. 3．Procedure The questionnaires were distributed to the students in the campus . The subjects completed the questionnaire by themselves without consulting with others. After the subjects’ completion of the questionnaires, they hand it in to us. Then we put the results into computer and used Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 to analyze them.
4．Data Analysis 1) Do you believe the old saying“ The defeat is mother of the success"?
Nearly half of them believe the word and half show disagreement about it. So the old saying seems not well-accepted among the students.
2) Have you ever met with a setback? The data shows that not everybody have ever met with a setback. But in my opinion, failure is a common thing with us.Maybe some one think the setbacks they met were too small to remember. 3) Have you defeated it?
Through the chart, we can know only half of the setbacks were defeated and still half of the setbacks seemed to be difficult problems to them on there way to success.
4) Is there any success you gain depending on the failure you have experienced?
Question 4 shows that only one eighth of the student have learn something from the failure they met and make it to success in the end. But most of them did not do well in this aspect. 5) Do you feel hopeless when you come across a failure? A few of the students feel hopeless the moment they met the setback but most of them do not think so. It sounds like a good news! 6) Are you afraid of failure?
Obviously,most of the students are afraid of failure. The reason may be the pressure from their parents and friends. Because they are still young.And they can not see the world well and lack of experience.They may be afraid of failure and have no idea in resolving them. 5．Results We can learn from the research that quite a few students have met with failure and finally they defeat it although some of them might feel hopeless the moment they saw it. But there are still part of them always being afraid of failure. And they should find the right way to improve their mind toward failure. We can also gain something helpful from the failure and make it to success. Success is the thing which everyone want and failure is on the opposite.But our attitude to them is not as easy as like or dislike.Even when we success,we can never be arrogant. Moreover, we should smile to failure some time. When there comes out a problem, do not think too much about the final result but just do it. It is not the result but what you pay for it that make the difference.You will at last change failure to success if you stick to working hard and never give up your dream. Failure can give us not only disappointment but the precious experience which we would never gain from our books and class. It may not show us the right way, but it points out the wrong way though which we can never reach the goal.Success brings confidence and victory. But, life is not always easy and comfortable.
