Typical Performance Properties
• Silicone durability - exhibits excellent long term resistance to ultraviolet radiation, high and low temperatures, rain, snow and natural weathering with negligible change in elasticity. • Stable consistency (uncured state) - supplied as a lightweight paste the consistency of which remains relatively unchanged over a wide temperature range. The material will extrude easily from the cartridge or container and remains workable under almost any practical temperature without requiring heating (other sealant types can stiffen upon exposure to cooler conditions and require heating in order to dispense and work the material). • Thermal stability (cured state) - once cured, the material remains flexible over a temperature range of -55°F (-48°C) to 250°F (121°C). • Primerless adhesion - bonds to most conventional substrates and finishes including: glass, glass coatings, ceramic frits, fluropolymer and powder coated paints, conversion-coated and anodized aluminum. Some finishes may require a primer. • Low sag or slump - which may be used for application to horizontal, vertical or overhead surfaces. • Accelerated cure - faster early hour cure properties to facilitate handling of assembled units. • High tensile strength - increases safety factors in SSG designs. • High tear strength - useful in Protective Glazing applications. • Compatible with these GE sealants insulating glass products: IGS3703, IGS3713-D1, IGS3729, IGS3723, IGS3733. • Compatible with these GE sealants weatherproofing sealants: SCS2000, SCS2700, SCS9000, SCS2800 series. • Compatible with these GE sealants SSG products: SSG4000AC structural glazing adhesive and SSG4800J, SCS2000, SSG4400 series. • Non-corrosive cure byproduct with low odor.

Requirement to the application environment2.1 Silicone Structural Sealant must be required to use a special tool (fg: well-worked cotton cloth, scraper; dual-component silicone structural sealant must be required to use the specialmixing machine.)2.2 The application environment must be clean, full of rays, fireproof, of dirtproofand blastproof measures. )2.3 Monocomponent silicone structural sealant requires the application environment temperature within 10~40°C and requires the relative humidity between 40% and 60%. Dual-component silicone structural sealant requires the temperature within 10~40°C.2.4 Inspecting the Production date, Certificate, Testing Report, Joint size calculated report and Compatibility testing report and check if the products conform to the Standard andthe Curtain Wall Design. Requirement.APPLICATION PROCEDURE1.Scrubbing the stuck surfaceWhether the stuck surface is scrubbed or not plays a decisive role to the application. Thus it is vital to make the surface clean.1.1 Cleanser● To clean the non-oil dust, dirt, frost and so on, usually using 50% isopropanol solution, isopropanol, alcohol etc.● To clean the oil dust, film etc, using degreased solvent such as toluene, xylol ect.● Types of cleanser are remarked on our Compatibili ty Report.● To clean the surface with white clean, soft and worked cotton cloths.1.2 “ Two-cloth-scrubbed Method “1) Immerse one cloth in the cleanser mentioned on the Compatibility Report, and then scrub the stuck surface in one direction.2) Before cl eanser volatilizing, using the other clean and dry cloth to wipe it off . Don’t allow the cleanser to dry on the stuck surface. To change the cloths regularly in order not to make the surface contaminated again.3) Scrubbed size must be wider than the application size and each side should be 1 cm wider than the application size.4) When scrubbing the thick and narrow position, tie the cloth to a right tool to do as above.5) To check the quality of scrubbing, require the immersed cloth clean after wiping the stuck surface.6) Before application, don’t make the scrubbed. Within one hour after scrubbing don’t apply the silicone structural sealant on the surface. Before application, the stuck surface need to rinse again.7) Change the dirt cloth timely; when immersing the cloth, just pour out some cleanser on the cloth. Don’t dip the cloth into the bottle. Don’t spray or brush the cleanser on the stuck surface. Because that can make the cleanser stained, flooding, and even make the smear dissolved and diffused widely.8) Application environment must be of fireproof and blastproof measures and well-ventilated. All the operation must accord with the’ safe regulation of using organic solvent technique’. 1.3 Scrubbing the surface of perforated materialsPerforated stone materials (such as granite, marble etc.) may be not effectually cleaned by the solvent. According to its character, to make the surface clean, some need burnished; some need solvent and some need both. Water-pressure scouring ( or steel wire brush ) is also an effectual way. Perforated stone materials can absorb solvent, primer and etc. Silicone structural sealant cannot be applied until the surface is completely volatilized.2. Primer application2.1 Choose primers according to the compatibility and adhesion test. Primer can be used after the surface scrubbed by the cleanser.2.2 Pour out some enough primer into a small container ( no more than 10 min.s’ amount ).Then lid the primer’s container tightly to avoid the primer going bad after volatilizing or absorbing moisture.2.3 Thin layer of primer is evenly applied on the stuck surface with fur brush or white clean non-fluffed cloth. Remember not to pour the primer or apply it too much on the surface. Much primer can form a lay of mealy, chalky membrane to make the adhesion between the primer and siliconestructural sealant disabled. (Too much primer can be wiped off by a clean, dry not-fluffed cloth or nonmetal brush)2.4 Primer can be used on the surface where will apply silicone structural sealant within an hour. If the dust is too much , the silicone structural sealant must be applied at once after the primer cured ( primer is often cured between 10-15 mins)2.5 Primer comprises volatilizing, combustible solvent. Therefore, primer must be applied under the well-ventilated places, where has fireproof and blastproof measures.2.6 If necessary, shelter the stuck surface edge to avoid applying outside3.Application procedure and the protection of Silicone Structural Sealant3.1 Before applying silicone structural sealant, shelter the peripheral area of the stuck surface with the protective sticky tape in order to avoid contamination when scraping the silicone structural sealant.3.2 Monocomponent silicone structural sealant can be applied by hand or pneumatically-operated gun. However, the dual-component silicone structural sealant can be applied only by the special equipment. Mix the silicone according to the stipulated proportion in butterfly experiment and take down the notes. ( see the sketch butterfly experiment )3.3 Using pneumatically-operated gun, adjust the pressure to extrude enough silicone structural sealant for the whole seam.3.4 The caliber of the gun must be smaller than the thickness of the seam and put the muzzle into the seam at about one second of the thickness. Moderately move the muzzle to make the silicone structural sealant full of the seam. Remember not to move the muzzle fast or constantly in and out. Because , in that case , the silicone structural sealant will occur foams or hollow. 3.5 After application, before the surface curing ( often 10-20min.s) , using the scraper to oppress the extra silicone in so as to make the silicone sealant contact with the sides of seam enough. It is helpful to lessen the foams and hollows. And then scrape it smoothly in one direction.3.6 Don’t use liquid auxili ary materials such as water, suds, alcohol and other organic solvent to help with scraping the silicone structural sealant. These materials can stop the siliconestructural sealant from curing and have bad effect on the adhesion and appearance.3.7 After trimming, before the surface curing ( within 15 mins after scraping silicone sealant), remove the protective sticky tape. At same time, mark the date and the number on the unit glass or aluminum frame, place them horizontally and maintenance them.3.8 Remove time for 3.7 glass or aluminum: under standard conditions, mono-component is 7 days ; dual-component is 12hours.3.9 Completely curing time: under standard conditions, mono-component is 14 days; dual-component is 7 days.4.Application for renewal and repair projectDuring or after the application, the problem of renewal or rebuilding is possible to occur. For example: repairing unit cutting silicone sealant, restoring the destroyed area of glass caused by many reasons, renewing the Curtain Wall System. The normal operation procedure are below: 1) Take down the date, concrete failure and position carefully, for big problem, pls contact with us or Construction design company timely, reassess to the whole or part system according to concrete information. Prohibit applying without getting the notice.2) Cutting the silicone structural sealant, leave a thin layer on the surface.( between 0.5-1.0 mm )3) Clean the surface as the way of “ Two-cloth-scrubbed Method“ .( it is no use scrubbing the surface if apply silicone sealant at once after cutting it. )4) No need primer. New silicone structural sealant can adhere the old one well.5) During the scrubbing process, it is possible for the old silicone structural sealant to absorb some solvent. Therefore the solvent must be volatilized before applying the new silicone sealant.6) Put the clean sill materials in the right place, set up the temporary fixed clamping apparatus, the surrounding scope of the joint should shelter the protective sticky tapes.7) Extrude the new silicone structural sealant into the joint as the Application procedure, after completely cured, check its adhesion and remove the temporary fixed clamping apparatus.QUALITY CONTROLTo guarantee the project quality, the whole application procedure should be well-controlled.1.Test before application1.1 To guarantee the product quality, first inspect the production date, shelf life,out-packing , Production Certificate and the Instruction. Second check if the quantity and specification conform to the Commercial Invoice.1.2 Mono-component silicone structural sealant, surface curing time / elasticity experiment Check the surface curing time and do elasticity experiment for each passel silicone structural sealant. The purpose of test is to check the application time to assure silicone sealant to be completely-cured. The methods are below:1) Extrude silicone structural sealant on the PE membrane for about 1.0 mm thick, write down the time t1 and touch its surface with a glass bar every 10 min.s.2) Write down the time t2 when the glass bar cant stick any silicone structural sealant, calculate the time t= t1 - t2 ; call t surface curing time. If the surface is not cured after 3 hours. Please don’t use this silicone structural sealant and meantime contact with us.3) After 24 hours cured, tear the silicone structural sealant from PE membrane, stretch it to 100% and check if the silicone structural sealant is cured completely. After that, loose it and see if it can restore 80% of the original length. If not, please don’t use this silicone structural sealant and contact us at the same time.4) Write down the corresponding testing result and project item in the record ( see appendix 2 ) to check in future.1.3 Dual-component silicone structural sealant. Butterfly experiment / Elongation-broken time experimentBefore application, do Butterfly and Elongation-broken time experiments for each passel silicone structural sealant. The purpose is to test the compatibility between the main component and the catalyzer and the application time to be sure the silicone structural sealant completely-cured. Experiments are below:1.3.1 Butterfly experiment1) Extrude JH-399 silicone sealant on a white paper at least for about 5 cm long.2) Fold the papers as the picture below and make it into membrane.3) Unfolding the paper and see the silicone sealant, if it mixes evenly, it wont show light grey stripe otherwise it will show light grey stripe. In that case, make the machine working on and drain the silicone sealant until it wont show light grey stripe.If it shows the light grey stripe again and again, please check the machine. Solve the problems via scrubbing or replacing the pipe or mixing system of the machine and gun, or adjusting the valve. If the problem cant be solved, please contact with the machine manufacture1) 2) 3) 4)Butterfly experiment1.3.2. Elongation-broken time experiment1) Put the mingled JH-399 silicone sealant into a small container2) Put a wood stick into the container, preparing a pencil ( or any other writing instrument) , scraper, brush and start recording the time.3) Pick up the stick once every 10 min. s .4) Picking up the stick, if it is filamented, indicates it is not the elongation-broken time. Put the stick into the container again. When pick up the stick, the silicone sealant is broken suddenly, keep down this time t. Call t elongation-broken time.Elongation-broken time varies with the different mix proportion of main component and the condensate. It is also affected by the temperature and moisture.mixed silicone sealant filamented phenomenon broken from innerElongation-broken time experiment1.3.3 Keep the record of Butterfly and elongation-broken time experiments. ( form see appendix 3 )1.Test of application quality2.1 Appearance inspectionCheck the appearance of unit finished Glass Curtain Wall one by one. Silicone structural sealant should be full of the stuck position without any foam or hollow. If any foam or hollow in it, then cut from the position and fill the new fresh silicone structural sealant in the cut position. Mend it smoothly..2.2 Peeling off the cured silicone structural sealant experiment2.2.1 Choose some units of the same glass and aluminum as the stuck materials where apply the silicone structural sealant. Make samples as the requirement to the application artic procedure of doing peeling off the cured silicone structural sealant experiment2.2.2 Put the filled silicone structural sealant under the standard condition: for mono-component, 7 days ; and for dual-component: 3 days. Peel off the cured silicone structural sealant from one end in more than 90 º direction, check if silicone structural sealant is off the glass and aluminum (A ) or destroyed cohesion (B ) phenomenon, record the percentage of destroyed cohesion. If silicone structural sealant is broken, it shows excellent adhesion (sticking stretch strengthstronger than cohesion strength ); if silicone structural sealant is broken at the foam or hollow position. It shows problems of the application occur.Peeling off the cured silicone structural sealant experiment2.2.1 Make records of operation. ( form see appendix 4 )2.3 Testing the adhesione of unit finished productsTest finished products, cutting silicone structural sealant is the effectual way. Before doing it , separate the slab from the frame. Leave a quite think layer of silicone structural sealant on the slab so as to make the experiment in best station..2.3.1 cutting silicone structural sealant need to check the items below, and keep the record. ( form see appendix 5 )1) the width, length and thickness of silicone structural sealant2) the adhesion between the silicone structural sealant and frame / slab3) the type of joint and applying condition4) dry condition , color, foam of silicone sealant2.3.2 Sampling regulation1) first cut-----check one of the first 10 pieces2) second cut---check one of the following 40 pieces3) third cut------check one of the following 50 pieces4) forth cut-----check one of the following 100 pieces from here5) According to the projects, both party can negotiate the frequency of cutting silicone structural sealant.2.3.3 the checking position can be restored as silicone structural sealant applied procedure. Original silicone surface should be clean and fresh. And it has excellent adhesion with the old one.2.3.4 Inspection before acceptanceFor manufactured glass curtain wall structural unit, inspect it one by one. They can be accepted till the adhesion reach the cohesion destroyed and without any foam or hollow for the appearance. Through inspection, the products can be shipped and installed. Inspector fills in quality inspecting report( form of report see appendix 6 ) and sign his name in the form.3.Documents fillingThe forms mention in this manual or other relative forms are attached. Whether applying for Project Guarantee Letter, Compensation Application or Quality Control Inspection must be presented to Chuang Shi Ji adhesive industry co., ltd. The consultant of curtain wall or official in location construction department will check these documents. Thus all of these documents and project information should be filed and saved.。

Two-sided structural silicone glazing.
In four-sided systems, both the vertical and the horizontal joints are structurally glazed with silicone, enabling the creation of an uninterrupted wall of glass. Dead loads are either supported mechanically by a horizontal fin or by the silicone sealant itself, depending upon the design.
The Dow Corning structural glazing team tested, retested and tested again ... in the lab, in full-size mockups and on the job site. They evaluated their sealants’ compatibility with all possible substrates. They tested for adhesion, movement capability, fatigue and failure. They analyzed joint designs, stresses and environmental variables, and monitored every design and installation detail.
No longer satisfied with square shapes and two dimensions, architects asked for and received the technical support they needed to structurally glaze triangles and other unexpected shapes and to create three-dimensional curtainwalls.
Today, reflections of sun and clouds glide across uninterrupted facades of mirrored glass, metal and stone ... thanks to the innovative spirit and technological mastery of Dow Corning.
Curtainwall manufacturers asked for greater control over construction variables and faster production times. They received both through the introduction of a two-part, fast-cure sealant for unitized (in-shop) curtainwall construction. Curtainwall quality and performance improved, and the use of structural silicone glazing blossomed.

ABOUT STRUCTURAL SILICONE GLAZING
In structural silicone glazing, structural silicone adhesive, rather than metal fasteners, is used to attach glass, ceramic, metal, stone or composite panels to a building’s me. This creates a continuous flexible rubber anchor that absorbs stress and prevents air- and waterintrusion. Only silicone sealants possess the unique combination of strength, flexibility and weather resistance required for structural glazing applications.
