❶Most people assume① that the human brain is set on “automatic②”—that means it learns all
by itself③.But this isn’t always true.❷We need to train ourselves to be better learners—to actively
take part in④ the learning process and to reflect on⑤ what we have learnt.These kinds of learning
behaviours are called “active learning”.I suggest doing five things to take an active role in⑥ your
learning.
❶句中第一个that引导宾语从句作assume的宾语;第二个that是指示代词,指代前面的说法。
❷句中破折号后and连接并列动词不定式短语,对to be better learners进行了补充说明。

1. Group Work: Talk about what you have learnt.
1) Write the title of the lesson on the board and ask students to brainstorm ideas on learning
reflection. Explain that when they look at themselves in the mirror, they see a “reflection” of
themselves. A “learning reflection” is when someone stands back in order to “reflect” on what they
have learnt and assesses this information.
2) In groups, students discuss what they have learnt at school and generally in their life and the
