核与粒子物理实验方法4-1气体探测器

基于此要求,通常选择惰性气体,如氩气、氙气等。入射粒子在其中主要以电离 和激发工作气体原子损失能量。被激发的惰性气体退激发只有通过发射光子。对于Ar 原子,其发射光子的能量为11.6 eV。这一能量是高于金属原子的电离阈的,如Cu原子 的电离阈为7.7 eV。因此这些光子轰击到探测器极板或丝上就会产生电离而造成连续 放电而使探测器无法正常工作。
• 多丝正比计数器
多丝正比计数器是Charpak及其合作者于1968年设计出来的一种位置探测器,简称 MWPC (Multi-Wire Proportional Counter)。因该探测器在粒子物理实验研究中的重要作 用,Charpak于1992年获得了诺贝尔物理学奖。
最简单的MWPC是由两个阴极面和位于其中间的一个阳极丝平面组成的,工作在 正比区,其每一根丝类似于一个单丝正比计数器。下图为一个典型的多丝正比计数器 的结构示意图。

MWPC的应用
➢ 一般MWPC用于粒子物理实验中,用于探测最小电离粒子的径迹。此时,工 作气压在1个大气压或以上(为了获得足够多的初电离电荷以提高探测效 率)。
➢ MWPC也用于低能重离子物理中,用来探测重碎片。此时一般工作在低气压 状态,工作气体的压力一般在几十个mb以下。

Inside the sensing chamber a light source and a light sensor are arranged so that the light normally does not fall on the sensor. It is only when airborne particles enter the chamber that light is scattered onto the sensor. The ORS 142 electronic circuitry also monitors the smoke detection system for slight contamination (dust and dirt build-up), heavy contamination and faults (sensing chamber failure). LEDs provide an optical indication of the operating status of the ORS 142. A long-term compensation function automatically maintains a constant difference between the quiescent signal and the alarm threshold, until a set limit indicating heavy contamination is reached. 1.光谱响应特性
当不同波长的光照射探测器时,只有能量满足一定条件的
光子才能激发出光生载流子从而产生光生电流。对于半导体材 料,要发生本征吸收,光子能量必须大于或者等于禁带宽度,
点,适合于制作抗辐射、高频、大功率和高密度集成的电子器件;而
利用其特有的宽禁带,还可以制作蓝、绿光和紫外光的发光器件和光 探测器件。

• Charm -> lower momentum spectrum • Multiple scattering limited dp/p • No vertexing needed • Replace silicon with low-mass Z tracker • Similar mass resolution • More layers - better track recognition
