My name is Timmy and I'm going to tell you all about what makes someone a really awesome college student. You see, my big sister Emily just started college last year, so I've gotten to hear all about what it's like. It sounds like a lot of fun, but also really hard work!First off, to be a great college student you gotta be really really smart. I mean, you have to know all kinds of stuff about lots of different subjects like math, science, history, and more. My sister is always studying these huge textbooks filled with tiny print and crazy long words I can barely even read, let alone understand. She says you have to soak up all that knowledge like a sponge if you want to pass your classes and tests. But just being smart isn't enough. You also have to be crazy organized and on top of everything. Emily has this huge calendar she writes all her assignments, exams, and deadlines down on. She plans out when she's going to study for each class and never procrastinates. If she did, she'd never get everything done in time! A good student needs to be a master planner and scheduler.Speaking of getting stuff done, awesome college kids also have to be super diligent and hard working. Emily is always talking about how much reading she has to do or how many papers and projects she needs to work on. It never stops! She has to skip fun stuff like movies and parties just to get all her schoolwork finished. Emily says it's not easy but that the harder you work, the better your grades will be. Lazy students who goof off instead of studying are bound to fail. It's also really important to be focused and able to concentrate for long periods. College lectures and classes can drag on for hourssometimes. My sister says she has to fight to pay close attention the whole time and take careful notes, otherwise she'll miss something crucial. And when she studies, she has to put away all distractions like her phone and TV so she can zero in on the material. One little slip up in concentration and suddenly you're lost!Another key thing is being curious and always eager to learn new things. You can't just be satisfied with what you already know. My sis says good students are constantly asking questions, doing extra research on topics, and trying to expand their knowledge as much as possible. They get really into the subjects instead of just trying to memorize facts for a test. Emily is always going on about how fascinated she is by something she learned in sociology or psychology class. To her, every day is chockfull of opportunities to discover something new and exciting.College students need to be pretty brave too. Imagine having to raise your hand in a huge lecture hall filled with hundreds of people to ask the professor a question! Or having to stand up in front of all those kids to give a presentation. Just the thought of it makes me quake in my shoes! But sis says you haveto muster your courage and not be scared to speak up, participate, and put yourself out there. Otherwise you'll never get the most out of your education.Being a hard worker and always studying is great, but it's also crucial to be well-rounded. That means having interests and hobbies outside of just academics. Like my sister is really into arts and crafts, so she joined the knitting club to take a break from hitting the books. Doing other activities helps you relax and recharge your brain batteries. Emily says students who do nothing but schoolwork night and day tend to get burned out quick. Finally, probably the most important trait is having great time management abilities. There's so much to juggle with classes, homework, studying, jobs, clubs, and still having a social life. If you can't master planning out your time and prioritizing what needs to get done first, you'll quickly get overwhelmed and disorganized. Emily stays on track by making daily to-do lists, scheduling time slots for certain tasks, and even setting alarms to keep her on a routine. She's like a time management ninja!Phew, that sure is a lot of qualities! Being an awesome college student definitely isn't easy. You have to be smart, organized, diligent, focused, curious, well-rounded, brave andgreat at managing your time. My big sis works her butt off but she says it's all worth it to get a stellar education. I just hope when it's my turn to go to college in several years, I can live up to all those standards too! Let me know if you have what it takes.篇4A Good College StudentHi there! Today, I want to talk about what qualities make a good college student. I'm in 5th grade and I love learning about all sorts of things. My favorite subjects are science and math because I like solving puzzles and finding out how things work.Today I want to talk about what it takes to be a really good university student. My parents and teachers are always telling me that getting a good education is really important for my future. They say if I work hard in school, one day I can go to a great university and learn even more cool stuff! But being a university student isn't just about being smart. It takes a lot of other qualities too. Let me tell you what I think some of the most important ones are:First of all, you have to be really curious and love learning new things. My friend Jack is always asking "Why?" about everything. Sometimes it gets a little annoying, but I think that curiosity will make him a great university student one day. Good students don't just memorize facts, they really want to understand ideas deeply. You also have to be hardworking and never give up, even when things get tough. Last year in math class, I just couldn't get the hang of fractions no matter how hard I tried. I felt like giving up. But my mom told me that being a university student means sticking with it when the work is really hard. She said the accomplishments that make you most proud are the ones you had to work really hard for. So I kept practicing and practicing those fraction problems until they finally clicked. Perseverance is key!Good time management skills are critical too. My older sister is a university student and she's always making schedules andsetting deadlines for herself. She divides up her time for studying, working, having fun with friends, exercising, and more. She knows if she doesn't have a good plan, she'll fall behind. I definitely need to work on my time management as I get older! It's also really important to be a good communicator as a university student. You have to share your ideas and questions with professors and classmates. You can't just sit silently in the back. My debate team coach teaches us how to speak clearly, make good eye contact, and defend our arguments. Those skills will come in handy when I'm older.Speaking of talking, I can't forget about being a team player and collaborating well with others. My dad always says that everybody has different strengths, and you get much further in life by working together than going it alone. He tells me stories about group projects he had in university where everybody contributed something unique. I love when we get to do group work in class because I can help out in the ways I'm best at while also learning from others.Critical thinking is another must-have skill. My aunt is a famous detective and she taught me how to look at situations from all angles and not jump to conclusions. She says a university student can't just accept everything they read or hear, but has to analyze information and come up with their own viewpoints. I try to always ask myself "Does this make sense?" instead of just believing everything I'm told. It's also super important to be organized, especially with so much work to juggle. My teacher Mr. Lee is always saying "A place for everything and everything in its place." He has special color-coded folders and binders for all his documents and notes. I'm a bit messier than him, but I can see how being organized helps you avoid losing assignments or forgetting deadlines. Nobody wants to be that student scrambling at the last minute!Responsibility and self-motivation are huge parts of being a good student too. My parents don't have to nag me (too much!) about doing homework or studying for tests. I know it's my job as a student to get my work done without them looking over my shoulder. Same goes for my chores and other responsibilities around the house. If you can't keep up with your workload on your own, how can you make it through challenging university courses? Students have to take charge of their own learning and progress.Lastly, and maybe most importantly, university students need to be brave enough to step out of their comfort zones. My uncle travels all over the world for his job, and he's always tellingme how going to a new place forces you to adapt and see things differently. Well, university is a totally new experience from high school or earlier grades. You're exposed to new ideas, new ways of thinking, and new personalities. If you just stick to your usual habits and篇6What Makes a Good University Student?Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 8 years old. My big brother Jake just started university last year and I think he's doing a pretty good job so far. But it made me wonder, what exactly makes someone a good university student? Here's what I think after watching Jake:First off, a good university student has to be really really smart. I mean, duh, right? You can't get into a good university unless you got great grades in school. Jake always got A's and was at the top of his class. He spent hours every night hitting the books and studying hard. Even now at university, he's always got his nose buried in a textbook or working on assignments. Being book smart is super important if you want to succeed. But just being a genius braniac isn't enough on its own. You also have to be willing to work your butt off! University isn't acakewalk from what I can tell. The classes are way harder than anything in high school. The professors pile on tons of homework, papers to write, projects to do, and then there are always those super hard tests to study for. If you're lazy and think you can just coast by, you'll end up failing out for sure.Jake is definitely not lazy though. He's up at the crack of dawn and doesn't go to bed until midnight most nights. He's always typing away at his laptop, making notes, or reading through materials for class. Even on the weekends, he's still putting in major hours studying and doing assignments. It's like he never takes a break! I don't know how he doesn't just pass out from exhaustion. Being a university student means being on the grind 24/7.Speaking of being on the grind, time management skills are crusial too. With so much stuff to do, you have to be a planning machine! Jake uses a ton of calendars and to-do lists to stay organized and on top of everything. He's a master at scheduling when to work on each assignment based on due dates and how much time they'll take. Without being able to juggle all his commitments like that, I think he'd be drowning in late assignments and missing deadlines left and right. It's not all just nose-to-the-grindstone at university though. You still have to make time to have fun and be social too! Jake goes out with his friends on the weekends, like to parties, movies, restaurants, that kind of stuff. He says university is wayyyy more than just academics and you'll go crazy if you don't find that balance. Having a strong friend group is crucial for blowing off steam and staying sane when the pressures get too intense. But here's the tricky part - you have to be really careful about procrastinating and letting your social life get in the way of your studies. Jake says he's seen so many students go off the deep end with partying and totally neglecting their schoolwork. Then they're stuck scrambling at the last minute before finals trying to make up for it. No thanks! A good university student knows how to set limits and boundaries so they don't go overboard. That reminds me, self-discipline and focus are pretty much prerequisites too. It's sooooo easy to get distracted and procrastinate, especially with all the freedom you have without parents or teachers breathing down your neck anymore. Social media, video games, TV, so many potential time wasters out there! Jake had to learn how to tune out those temptations and zero in on what he needed to do. Whenever I'm struggling toconcentrate on my homework, I think about how locked in he has to be. Self-discipline is definitely something all university students need in spades.Oh, and let's not forget about basic life skills too! For a lot of students, university is their first taste of true independence and being on their own. Simple things like cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, managing money - jake had to figure all that out by himself. He even had to get a part-time job to help pay for expenses since our parents could only do so much with supporting him financially. Balancing work on top of a full course load is no joke! But learning those kinds of basic adulting skills is really important when you're living on your own for the first time.Last but not least, I think a good university student has to be a critical thinker who doesn't just accept everything at face value. University is all about being exposed to new ideas, new perspectives, and looking at things in a different way. You can't just mindlessly memorize stuff or do things because "that's just how it's always been done." Nuh-uh, you gotta be able to think for yourself! And I'm talking about big-picture, analytical thinking too. Not just regurgitating facts, but analyzing those facts and drawing your own conclusions from them. Evaluating differentviewpoints and figuring out what makes sense and what doesn't. Synthesizing information from all sorts of sources into a unique way of understanding things. That's what separates university from just being glorified high school.Phew, that was a lot! But those are some of the biggest qualities I think make someone a standout university student from what I've seen with Jake. It's definitely not easy and requires lots of hard work and discipline. But Jake seems to be pulling it off so far. Who knows, maybe I'll be following in his footsteps before too long! Though I still have quite a few years before I have to start worrying about all that. Kindergarten is tricky enough as it is!。

大学生应该具备哪些素质英语作文What Qualities Should College Kids Have?Hey there! Today I want to talk about what makes a really good college student. My older brother just started college last year, and I've been hearing a lot about it. It sounds like a huge deal!College is where you go after high school to learn super deep about subjects you're interested in. You pick a "major" which is like your favorite class times a hundred. If you want to be a doctor, you major in biology or chemistry. If you want to write books, you can major in English literature. There are majors for every career you can imagine! But being a college student isn't just about the classes. My brother says you have to be a certain kind of person to really crush it in college. Let me break down some of the most important qualities:The first one is being responsible. In college, you're finally treated like a grown-up. There's no more babysitters or teachers nagging you about doing your homework. You have to make sure you get yourself to class, hand in your assignments, study hard, and take good notes all on your own. If you slack off, there's no one there to get on your case. You just fail! So responsibility is key.Another biggie is time management skills. You're taking way harder classes than you did in high school. And you have lots of activities, clubs, sports teams, and hanging out with friends competing for your time. You have to be a time management ninja to get it all done without pulling your hair out. My brother makes a new schedule every week to stay on top of it all.Speaking of activities, college kids have to be eager to try new things. College is your chance to explore tons of interests outside of just academics. My brother joined an ultimate frisbee club, the entrepreneurship club, and he auditioned for an improv comedy troupe. He's pushing himself way outside his comfort zone, but he's loving it so far. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, as they say!Work ethic is another must-have quality. College classes are no joke. They require much more studying, reading, writing papers, and prepping for intense exams compared to high school. My brother's chemistry course had him spending hours every night doing problem sets. You have to outwork everyone else if you want to stay on top of it all.But working hard is only part of the equation. You also need to be crazy smart about studying. My brother had to totally transform how heprepped for tests and wrote essays. Things that flew in high school wouldn't cut it anymore. He had to master skills like:Taking great notes in different formats like outline, mind maps, etc.Reading strategically to absorb all the key pointsPlanning and revising essays through multiple draftsFinding smart shortcuts in problem sets instead ofbrute-forcing every problemPreparing for test questions that require synthesizing information in new waysMy brother says his smartest friends were the ones constantly swapping study hacks and tricks. You have to be embracing a growth mindset and always looking for better ways to learn and perform. With all that workload, you better be one motivated kid! College is demanding. You'll face tons of temptations to slack off or just coast by. Having a powerful motivator driving you is critical. For some kids, it's chasing a dream career. For others, it'ssheer intellectual curiosity and love of learning. Maybe you're gunning to graduate with highest honors. Or you're fueled by wanting to make your family proud. Whatever it is, you need potent motivations to push through all the hard parts. One of the most overlooked qualities is being an awesome communicator. College kids are constantly:Asking effective questions in classExplaining complex ideas in study groupsGiving presentations in front of groupsParticipating in class discussionsWriting persuasive essays and papersCommunicating with professors and peers about issuesYou have to be comfortable with public speaking, written communication, asking for help when confused, and advocating for yourself. These skills will help you so much in college and way beyond too.Another low-key important quality – money management! College isn't just tough mentally. It's also expensive. You have to be spendthrift with your money to avoid going broke. Between tuition, books, housing, food, activities, and transportation, lotsof kids go into major debt. But money-savvy students look for ways to save, budget carefully, avoid splurges, and take on paid jobs or work-study. Money skills will serve you massively after graduating too.Now for the fun part – being sociable! College is about way more than just academics. Some of your best memories will come from bonding with your new friend crew. You'll need solid social skills to make those connections. Dorm life is perfect for meeting new humans and putting yourself out there. Don't be that person who ghosts in their room 24/7.Join clubs, go to events, stay involved in campus life. Keep an open mind to making friends from all walks of life. And be willing to sometimes step out of your social comfort zone. Joining that improv troupe was terrifying for my shy brother, but now he's way more confident and has a squad of hilarious friends. Finally, you gotta roll with a can-do attitude. College will bring ups, downs, successes, failures, surprises, and constant change. You'll face obstacles, bouts of burnout or loneliness, moments where you doubt yourself, and annoying setbacks. But the most successful kids persevere through it all with a positive mindset. They see challenges as opportunities, not roadblocks. They ask "How can I improve from this?" instead of getting discouraged. They reach out for help when struggling instead of quitting. And they find small wins to celebrate along the way. Having that optimistic, solution-focused outlook will carry you far in college and life!Phew, that's a lot of qualities! No wonder they call college the best and hardest years of your life. But getting all those important traits on lock will set you up for an incredible educational experience. Just don't forget to call your family sometimes amidst all the craziness! We miss you!。

英语写作之主题句

英语写作之主题句

Definition of Topic Sentence★ 1866 年,Alexander Bain 首次提出英语段落主题句的概念为“a collection of sentences with unity of purpose” ,即主题句统领段落的主题,决定了段落的一致性。

★根据Brooks and Warren ,主题句是“a kind of backbone ,a spine ,which supports the body of the paragraph and around which t he rest of the structure is formed”★一般说来,为了保证段落的统一性,每个段落应有个中心思想(central idea) ,这是写作者要表述的主题思想。

在大多数情况下段落的中心思想是由主题句表述的。

起提纲挈领的作用。

★在对语言的掌握得心应手的作者手中,主题句可以应用自如,不用主题句也可以使段落中所有的句子统一、连贯,中心思想突出、明了。

但是“In the hands of the less experienced writer ,this controlling idea had better be expressed in the first sentence. ”Composition of Topic Sentence◇主题句一般由两部分构成: ( 1) 主题( Subject)和( 2) 关于该主题的观点或态度。

也就是说, 一个恰当的主题句不仅讲述某一主题, 同时还应阐明作者对该主题的看法或者态度, 而这种看法就决定了什么内容可以放在该段中。

所以, 有的修辞学家也把主题句称作“支配性思想”。

◇例如:( 1 ) Smoking cigar ettes can be an expensivehabit.

The most important quality of university students

The most important quality of university students

The Most Important Personal Quality of a University StudentFrom my point of view, the most important personal quality of a university student should be the ability to withstand setbacks and obstacles. The stronger, more tolerant a university student is, the more able he is to deal with the ups and downs in his life.Life is not always sweet and sunshine. I think that life is just like a pendulum swing. Half the time, things are better than normal; the other half, they are worse. When facing with setbacks and obstacles, a strong heart will reinvigorate one and offer assurance that he can thrive. Life begins with innocent childhood, followed by awkward adolescence trying awkwardly to adapt itself to mature society, with its young ideals and follies meet with the cruelty and heartlessness of the reality. Misfortunes and setbacks are humanly impossible. Through misfortunes, setbaks, obstacles, the breaking of hearts and the ending of fairy tales, people become more sophisticated with time. The mellowing of one’s character is like the ripening of fruit and the mellowing of good wine, during which a strong heart is a must.On the contrary, a wicker heart might not help one go though the misfortunes. It is known to almost all university students in Shanghai that there is one famous building located on the campus of East China Normal University. The surrounding scenery of it is so serene and beautiful that many university students reckon it a most suitable place to rest their lives. Therefore, each year there are students from different universities come to this building like pilgrims and then fly off the top of it. In their souls, the discordant note becomes hasher and hasher and finally overwhelms or submerges the main melody. But that is because their original leitmotivs have been hopelessly overshadowed through the lack of the ability to withstand the blows of life.A university student will gradually acquire a more tolerant, more cynical and at the same time a kindlier view of life as his life goes on. But the basis is that he should be able to withstand the blows of life and remain vigorous and confident to meet with the nasty surprises of the future. People make mistakes and learn from them. That is what the life is about. To withstand the bad of life, one should be strong enough, and that should be the most important quality for students to develop in their university lives.Comment: 17Quite good!。

The Most Important Quality of a College Student
A full college student is supposed to be equipped with more than one quality, such as ambition, knowledge, far sight. Yet, the most important point, in my humble opinion, is the sense of responsibility. Other quality could only be minor when compared with it.
Only with the sense of responsibility can one absorb knowledge to the utmost extent during college years. Every year thousands of senior high school graduates crowd like sardines on the way of college entrance exam to get enrolled. So we come up with the question: College years, what for? The answer is knowledge. As we all know, before stepping into college, we learn almost the same at school. If there is any difference, the only one is the classification of liberal arts and science. Colleges, therefore, should be a place for one to have a major and study relatively further at one field. However, there is something standing on the way to make progress. It’s obvious that in college there won’t be teachers to wave their whips, forcing you to study. So to learn or not to learn, the decision lies completely with you. If you are responsible, you know your duty clearly and you will squeeze time to learn spontaneously. Only in that way can you learn utmost in the limited four years.
Only with sense of responsibility can one fully extend his ability with the knowledge learned. If we say the purpose of college study is to learn knowledge, then the next step should be how to apply the knowledge
learned. To some extent, a knowledgeable irresponsible college student is more terrible than a knowledgeless responsible one. Because if somebody is responsible but ignorant, we have a fool at the worst, he won’t do any harm to the society; but if someone is knowledgeable but irresponsible, he won’t worth the expectation of the society, that is, it is a waste of college years to culture him.
To make a conclusion, the sense of responsibility is an essential quality of a college student. Without it without the meaning of one’s coll ege education.。
