What’s more, student visa approval rate is 87% of the total number. In 2009, the United States more than 80,004 visas to Chinese students. These numbers shows that more and more students are abroad for study.Why are they so over-enthusiastic about study abroad?First of all, students say they can develop better with advanced facilities and teaching methods in those modern schools. By living and communicating with foreign students, a profitable experience is available to them. When they return to China, they are supposed to have a great advantage over the students at home in many ways.Secondly, they prefer a different style of life, which can open a new world to them and help enrich their experiences.Thirdly, better laboratory equipment and large amounts of information may be another attraction for many students.However, as everything has two sides, there are also some problems in studying abroad. The following problems are obvious.For one thing, the language barrier and the culture differences are common. Misunderstandings often arise because of lacking knowledge of the local culture. In addition, they feel helpless because of poor independence and confidence.For another, the cost of living abroad is so high that the students have tofind part-time jobs in order to help support themselves. This may make them not to pay full attention to their studies and fail in their courses. Then study abroad may have little meanings.Moreover, with the increase in the number of returned students, whether their education degrees gained abroad can be recognized when then come back makes people confused.The most important problem is chaos of the intermediary market. When study abroad at people’s own expense became popular in 1998, there are almost no rules in intermediary market. Some people would take all the money away without doing anything and leaving troubles behind.Facing the problems I mentioned above, I have a series of suggestions.First of all, Chinese students should have solid foundation of Chinese culture and it will be much easier for students to learn the foreign culture. Before they go abroad, it is necessary to have professional English language training. Parents must help to improve the independence and confidence in order student will not feel so disappointed and frustrated when they meet with difficulties.Secondly, parents need to evaluate their family economic status objectively before send their children to study abroad to make sure that they can afford the expense of the several years’ study abroad. The expense of study abroad is high to a common family. It is not a perfect way to study and do part-time jobs at the same time for a student abroad. They may waste a lot of time if they cannot pay full attention to their study. The longer they are abroad, the more they will cost. It isnecessary to prepare enough money to send children to study abroad. Having a knowledge of the expense of the universities abroad also can help parents make a good plan of sending their children to study abroad.Thirdly, consider revising of the education degrees granted broad is a latest problem. I have several ideas. The service centre of Ministry of Education must pay more attention to the certification of the education degrees. And they must take steps to make sure that every department has a series of measures to do well in recognizing the degrees. To students, they have to concentrate on the time of studying abroad. Do not waste time and learn something really. Try your best to gain the education degrees. The foreign universities also need to be more responsible for students from other countries and have strict rules of conferring upon the education degrees to selling degrees to students.At last, people must choose an intermediary which has a qualification and make a contract with the intermediary to protect your benefits. Keeping connection with the Ministry of Education and get the latest information of studying abroad are very valuable. The Ministry of Education should work out more policies to improve the intermediary market in order to make the public rest assured. The agencies supported by the government are more reliable. Agencies without any qualifications or detailed service mustn’t be chosen. A formal intermediary must have more than five workers. Its legal representative should be Chinese citizens with permanent residence in the territory. When you are consulting in the agency, it is better to ask several different experts. It is also necessary to get a written programproposal from the intermediary. What is the most important is to be clear that the expense required by the agency. After you pay the fee, do not forget to require an invoice. Whatever measures will be taken, I think the Ministry of Education should play a leading role. Do not listen to false propaganda and try to avoid being misled. If you get a chance, you had better connect with the university you want to study abroad by yourself.
