Create a mission statement that is simple and specific. Think about the purpose of your committee and keep it consistent with USTA/VA Tennis mission statement: “To promote and develop th e growth of tennis in Virginia”.
Remember that goals are broad and general ways to achieve your mission and key steps are the specific ways to accomplish your goals. For example, a goal that states “Increase advertisement” could have the objective “Purchase ads in four major publications by MM/DD/YYYY.”
Make your objectives SMART (S trategic, M easurable, A chievable, R ealistic, T ime-bound).
For each key step, add a timeline and who is responsible to complete each.
When discussing your goals, be sure to cover current needs and priorities of USTA/VA Tennis as it relates to your committee.
When discussing your key steps, look at how the specific skills and interests of the committee members can best be utilized.
Remember to think more Strategically (long-term tasks) than Tactically (short-term tasks).
Limit your committee to 2-3 major goals and 2 or more key steps per goal if possible.
Remember: Resources (Strenghts/Opportunities) = money, staff, volunteers, partners, supplies, equipment, etc.
Remember: Constraints (Weaknesses/Threats) = restrictions that must be overcome to meet objectives.
