This section of the self-study asks the school, under the leadership of the Buildings and Ground Committee of the Parish Council, to examine the school facilities as to their impact upon the overall school operation. Concerns such as sanitation, safety, and environment meaningfully affect the teaching, learning, and formational activities that take place in the Catholic elementary school and warrant close and professional attention. It is shared with music, which meets twice a week and the principal’s office and speech services. The arrangement may not be “ideal” but we feel that it accommodates our needs as a small school.Describe lavatory facilities available for staff and students: We have a set of boys and girls restrooms on three levels of the school. A teacher restroom is located on the second level. The restroom is not handicapped accessible for people who use the gym or kitchen. The boy’s restrooms need to have the urinals replaced in the future.List major repairs or improvements undertaken in the last five years: The front and back entry way was enclosed to make the school more efficient to heat. Insulation was added to the classrooms on the west side of the school. A new roof was added in the spring of 2009. The entry way was tiled in 2008. The boiler was repaired in 2008 to make it more efficient. Security cameras were installed in 2009. The school was made wireless in 2009 with internet access to the office.List major repairs or improvements projected for the next five years: The doors on the north side of the gym need to be replaced. Backs and side rails need to be installed on the bleachers. Floortiles in the kitchen storage need to be taken up and the floor painted with epoxy paint. The kindergarten sink needs to be moved and the floor should be replaced. Urinals in the boy’s bathroom need to be replaced. Gutters need to be placed on the west side of the school. The black top on the playground needs to be replaced.
