寂静的夏夜，虫鸣。
几个身着白衣的精灵从舞台的一边轻盈地上场，停住，倾听。
这个树林是精灵最喜欢的聚会地点，他们有着特异功能，不被人们所看见。
泰妲妮亚：咦？这是什么？欧波隆：这是少女们称“枉费之爱”的花，一旦将那紫色小花的汁液滴在睡眠者的眼皮上，当他们醒来时，便会疯狂的爱上所看到的第一件东西。
无论第一眼看到的是狮子，黑熊公牛或是猕猴，他们都会用最强烈的爱情追求它。
另有一种草药可以解去这种魔力。
欧波隆：(轻声说, 神秘的躲起来)可是谁到这儿来啦？他们看不见我，让我听一听他们说些什么。
狄米特律斯上，海伦娜紧追不舍。
狄米特律斯：我不爱你，所以别跟着我，莱赛德和美丽的荷米亚在那儿？你告诉我，他们在这里，但是我找不到我的荷米亚。
快走，不许再跟着我。
荷米亚：是你吸引我的，你这硬心肠的磁石。

（略就远处而卧）两人同睡，派克上派克：啊，谁在这儿？这是那残酷的年轻人，而她就是那个女孩。
美丽的人儿，她竟然不敢睡近这没心肝的恶汉。
坏东西，我将在你的眼精滴进爱情的花液。
嘿，真有趣。

莱赛德（醒转）：多漂亮的美女，海伦娜，我愿为你赴汤蹈火！海伦娜（吃惊）：别这么说，莱赛德。
你不爱荷米亚吗？莱赛德（温柔、深情地说）：我一点也不爱她，对我而言，她只是只乌鸦，而你是只白鸽。
海伦娜（痛苦）：喔，为什么我生下来就被每个人嘲笑，而不被尊重？年轻人，这还不够吗？一个女子被一个男人拒绝，还得忍受另一个男人的讽刺。
（下）莱赛德：我的一切生命之光啊，用爱和力来尊崇海伦娜，做她忠实的武士吧。
（追随海伦娜，下）荷米亚（醒来，恐惧地叫）：莱赛德！莱赛德！你去那儿了？如果你听得到，请回答我，我快因害怕而昏倒了，但你去那儿了? 回答我！亲爱的！我明白了你已经不在近旁了，要是我寻不到你，我定将丧亡。
狄米特律斯上狄米特律斯（高兴）：你在这里，我亲爱的荷米亚，我找你找了好久。
荷米亚：你看见我的莱赛德了吗?狄米特律斯：我宁愿把他的尸体喂我的猎犬。
荷米亚（生气）：滚开，恶狗！我一点都不相信你！你真的把他杀了吗？（讽刺的语气）哎呦，你真勇敢，一条毒蛇都比不上你！狄米特律斯：你的脾气发的好没来由，我并没有杀死莱赛德，他也并没有死。
荷米亚：我从此离开你那可憎的脸，无论他死也罢，活也罢，你再也不要和我相见！莱赛德，我会找的你的！（疾下）狄米特律斯：她是如此生气，我最好停止跟随她。

狄米特律斯醒来狄米特律斯：噢！海伦娜！完美的女神！你的嘴唇是多么诱人！让我亲吻那纯白的手吧！海伦娜：唉！倒霉！你们都爱着荷米亚，而现在你们也一同嘲笑我！我知道你们讨厌我，但为什么还要联合起来讥讽我呢？狄米特律斯：莱赛德，保留你的荷米亚吧！海伦娜是我的！莱赛德：不！海伦娜，他说的都是谎话！海伦娜：你们让我迷惑了。
我该相信谁呢？荷米亚上荷米亚：莱赛德！你在这里！你为什么如此忍心地离开了我呢？莱赛德：因为我不爱你，你不知道吗？荷米亚：你说的不是真心话，那不会是真的。
莱赛德：我说的是真的。
我讨厌你，我爱的是海伦娜。
你死心吧！海伦娜：现在我明白了，他们三人一起联合起来捉弄我。
没情没义的荷米亚，如果你有点同情心，慈悲心，或一些礼貌的话，就不应该和男人一起嘲笑你可怜的朋友。
荷米亚：你的气话真令我吃惊。
我并没有嘲弄你，似乎是你在嘲弄我呢！海伦娜：也许一部份是我自己的错，生离或死别应该很快能弥补过来。
狄米特律斯：不要走，温柔的海伦娜，听我解释。
我的爱，我的生命，我的灵魂，美丽的海伦娜！莱赛德：不，我比他更爱你。

欧波隆：派克，这都是因为你的粗心，还是你故意的？派克：相信我，国王，那是无心之过。
不过，我并不觉得抱歉，我认为他们的争吵是很有趣的。
欧波隆：你听着，狄米特律斯和莱赛德已经去找地方打架了。
我命令你使黑夜中充满浓雾好让他们找不到对方。
当他们睡着时，就解除莱赛德的魔法。
派克：我懂，我懂。
第五幕第一场 (森林中四人熟睡着)派克：看！我是多么的小心！我要解除魔法。
当你们醒来时，每个人将找到真爱。
这真是快乐结局！大家都醒来。
荷米亚：噢！莱赛德，今晚真奇怪！你还爱不爱我？莱赛德：我依然爱你的！但我梦到我爱上海伦娜，多么疯狂！荷米亚：哎！我做了同样的梦！海伦娜：我也是，现在，我只想知道狄米特律斯是否还像梦中那样的爱着我？狄米特律斯：海伦娜，我保证我一切的忠信一切的心思只属于你，我渴求着你，珍爱着你，思慕着你，将要永远忠心于你。
莱赛德(笑着，甜蜜地说)：我觉得好像这些事情我都用昏花的眼睛看着，一切事情都似乎模糊不清。
海伦娜：我也这么认为，我得到狄米特律斯，像是得到一颗宝石，好像是我自己的，又好像不是我自己的。
狄米特律斯：亲爱的，不用担心，我已属于你。
荷米亚：噢，我父亲来了。
昂科斯：你，你竟敢逃离！我将要求依法惩办你！狄米特律斯，真抱歉！狄米特律斯：别这么说，现在我想娶的是海伦娜。
.昂科斯：真的吗？莱赛德：是的。
也请把荷米亚嫁给我吧，我会带给她快乐的，我保证。
荷米亚：喔，爸爸！请答应吧，他真的是个完美的人。

泰妲妮亚：精灵们，过来，为了庆祝这快乐的结局，让我们来唱歌跳舞吧！精灵们一齐唱歌跳舞派克：现在，如果任何人为这篇小精灵恶作剧的故事而生气的话，就把它当作睡觉时的奇幻梦境吧！同时我希望没有人会对这一个美丽且无害的仲夏夜之梦仍然生着气。
旁白：每个人心中都有梦想，有的人希望能过着高品质的人生，有的人则希望能改造这个社会，然而因为生活中的诸多挫折和日常琐碎，许多人的梦就此缩水，甚至再也提不起劲想去实现。
然而各位可知道，当没有了做梦的念头，人生也就注定了永远不会成为赢家。
