put together they weigh roughly the same as all of

Satellites are an important part of our ordinary lives. For example, the information

for weather forecasts is sent by satellite. Some satellites have cameras which take

photographs of the Earth to show how clouds are moving. Satellites are also used to

connect our international phone calls.

Computer connections of the World Wide Web and Internet also use satellites. Many

of our TV programs come to US through satellites. Airplane pilots also sometimes use

a satellite to help them find their exact location.

We use satellites to send television pictures from one part of the world to another.

They are usually 35,880 kilometers above the equator. Sometimes we can see a satellite

in the sky and it seems to stay in the same place. This is because it is moving around

Calvin waited outside Trudy’s bedroom. Then it happened—a scream, a very loud scream.

Calvin ran to his room and dived into bed.

He heard Mama coming down the hall.

“Did you do this?” his mother asked. Calvin looked out from under the covers. His mother

stood over him, holding a rubber spider.

“Do what?” he asked.

“You put that thing in my bed,” Trudy told him, stepping out from behind Mama.

“Don’t think that just because it’s your birthday you can get away with something like this,”

Mama scolded (责骂).

“You do want your present, don’t you?” That wiped the smile off Calvin’s face.

“Course I do,” he said.

“Then you apologize (道歉).”

Calvin dropped his head. “Sorry Trudy,” he muttered (嘟囔).

“Here,” Mama said. “Happy birthday.” At the breakfast table she handed Calvin an envelope.

Do you know how it is when you see someone yawn (打哈欠) and you start yawning too? Or how hard it is to

be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, obviously it’s because we have mirror neurons (神经元) in

our brains.

Put simply, the presence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our

brains model after it, whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how we

learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain

physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people.

Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the areas which relate to our

Alllivingthingsontheearthneedotherlivingthingstolive.Nothinglivesalone.Mostanimalsmustliveinagroup,andevenaplantgrowsclosetogetherwithothersofthesamekind.Sometimesonelivingthingkillsanother,oneeatsandtheotheriseaten.Eachkindoflifeeatsanotherkindoflifeinordertolive,andtogethertheyformafoodchain(食物链)。Somefoodchainsbecomebrokenupifoneofthelinksdisappears.
