话题09 旅游交通CHAMBORD CASTLE, LOIR-ET-CHER, FRANCEA remarkable example of classical French architecture, Chambord Castle is the largest castle in the Loire Valley of France. Built in 1519 as a hunting lodge for the royal court, the building was rarely lived in. There are one hundred rooms (of 440) open-to the public and dozens of staircases, including one said to have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci. The surrounding 21-square-mile nature park entertains with hiking and-biking routes and boat rentals.LEEDS CASTLE, KENT, UNITED KINGDOMSituated on two islands in the middle of a lake, Leeds Castle provides a grand and romantic experience. B.Go boating with friends.C.Live in any of its rooms. D.Admire da Vinci’s paintings.2.Visitors interested in beautiful night-time views can go to ______.A.CHAMBORD CASTLE B.LEEDS CASTLEC.MOSZNA CASTLE D.BRAN CASTLE3.Which castle has the longest history?A.CHAMBORD CASTLE. B.LEEDS CASTLE.C.MOSZNA CASTLE. D.BRAN CASTLE.London and Paris are two of Europe's biggest tourist destinations, just a few hours away from each other by road or rail and an hours distance by air. What about the train-ferry combination that many recall fondly from their childhoods? Well, though it's budget-saving, this option is too time-consuming today, so better leave it to your memories. Since the UK is not part the Schengen Area, passengers need to go through passport control prior to boarding.Air trips:Though flying between London and Paris is by no means recommended, there are still a few people traveling between the two dynamic cities by air. A very low one-way fare is possible through advanced booking, but of course it's rare, and that doesn't include the taxi and rail fares traveling to and from the airports.* One-way fares from Paris can be as low as €49;* From London, Air Franc e flies with fares as low as £39(€46), and British Airways as low as£48(€56)Rail trips:The only direct train between London and Paris is the Eurostar, which travels 15-17 times per weekday. Eurostar’s 2015 edition trains can make the journey in two hour s at speeds of up to 320 km/h. Besides, they offer good seating space.* Fares begin at a reasonable £58(€68), round trip;* The earlier you book, the more you save.Bus tripThe bus is by far the least expensive and longest way to travel between Paris and London. Eurolines and OUIBUS are two major bus lines traveling between the two capitals. The journey takes between seven and nine hours. Both lines advertise free Wi-fi.* One-way Eurolines fares begin at €15;* One-way OUIBUS fares begin at €15 too, but early bird sales can even lower the fare.4.Which way is probably the most expensive for a round trip?A.By train-ferry. B.By air. C.By rail. D.By bus.5.What special service does the bus trip provide?A.Passport free boarding. B.Taxi pickup.C.Good seating space. D.Free Wi-fi.6.What do the trips have in common with each other?A.They are cheaper if booked ahead of time.B.There are different competing companies.C.They are more expensive from the Paris end.D.There are still additional fees to be included. The icy beauty of the Arctic attracts thousands of visitors every year to see its wonderful wildlife, landscape and local cultures. Visitors can take ships on a voyage along the Arctic Ocean or take flights to cities along the Arctic edge. No matter how one gets there, they should wear warm clothes and get ready to take in the attractions.“Travelling to the Arctic leaves an unforgettable impression on the visitor. Its vast expanse and the fragility of its environment are two things that really blow away people,” said Cheryl Rosa, the director of the US Arctic Research Commission.Visitors to the Arctic Circle will have a lot of activities to choose from if they want to see all that the region has to offer. Hiking with snowshoes, dog sledding and kayaking are common activities. Visitors with sharp eyes are likely to spot polar bears. To get even closer to the animals of the sea, visitors can go polar snorkeling with seals. Of course, Arctic adventures aren't complete without viewing the wonders of the Arctic Circle's large glaciers and icebergs as well. One of the most impressive attractions and maybe the most difficult to see is the Northern Lights, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. They are natural lights that glow a brilliant green and light up the horizon. Sometimes they appear as waves that dance across the sky in different colors. The best places to view the Northern Lights are in Northern Norway, Sweden's Abisko National Park , Iceland, America's Alaska or Canada's Yukon, according to . Charles Deehr, an expert at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Geophysical Institute , recommended planning a trip between winter and spring, especially when there is a new moon.Even though the Arctic is a popular tourist destinati on, don't forget that people live here too. “It is recommended that visitors go with tour groups that are respectful of Arctic residents (居民) and their culture,” said Rosa. “Too many people can disturb the small villages. Finding tour groups that work with local communities is important.”7.The underlined part “blow away” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.A.defeat B.affect C.move D.impress8.What can we know about the Northern Lights?A.They only produce green light at night.B.They are natural lights and hard to see.C.They seldom occur between winter and spring.D.The best time to view them is when there is a full moon.9.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.Tour groups are not welcome among Arctic residents.B.The Arctic's population has been rising in recent years.C.Visitors should choose suitable tour groups when visiting.D.Tour groups should get permission from local communities.10.What is the purpose of the author in writing this passage?A.To inform visitors of local culture.B.To recommend some activities to visitors.C.To introduce a popular tourist destination.D.To share a travel experience in the Arctic. Two deer jumped out in front of 16-year-old Amanda Floyd’s car. She stepped on the brake, stopping the car just in time. But later, she started texting. Distracted, Amanda turned left and right, then crashed into another car. Luckily, she wasn’t in a real car — she was in a driving simulator at Roosevelt High School, Ohio, US. “I never really realized that cars make a turn that much,” Amanda, a junior, said. She added that she wouldn’t text while driving anymore. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and State Highway Patrol brought the simulator to the school. They said they wanted to help students learn about the danger of driving while drunk, whiletexting, or while talking on the phone.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving claimed 3,4501ives in 2016 alone. Experts believe the actual figure is probably higher. The simulator is basically a computer program. Like many computer games, it was a hit with the students. They lined up and crowded around to watch each other take turns. The simulator has a steering wheel (方向盘) , brake and gas pedal . It is made up of three large computer screens on a table.Students choose a distraction, such as driving while drunk or texting. They always crash, ofcour se. Then, they are pulled over by the police to be taught the bad results of their driving: how much damage they’ve caused, what their fine is, if anyone died in the accident, and if they’re going to go to prison.“It teaches how to drive without being on the road,” said Shante Thompson, 16. She had just crashed into a deer.ODOT spokesman Justin Chesnic said hundreds of kids have gone behind the wheel so far. He said even more have benefited from watching their classmates. “Driving is such a major responsibility, so take it seriously,” he said. “Put away your cellphone. A lot of the accidents out there are because of d istracted driving. It can not only change your life, but it can change someone else’s life forever. The results are serious. ”11.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 1?A.Introduce the topic of the text. B.Show the author’s point of view.C.Provide some advice for the readers. D.Offer some background information.12.Why is the driving simulator project introduced to Roosevelt High School?A.It tests the students’ ability to stay focused.B.It gets students to have fun between classes.C.It teaches students how to deal with traffic accidents.D.It makes students aware of the dangers of distracted driving.13.What can we know about the driving simulator?A.It is connected to the local police station.B.It is a vehicle with three large computer screens.C.It attracts the students’ interest as a computer program.D.It benefits the students who use it more than those who only watch.14.What is the best title for the passage?A.Traffic Rules in Ohio, US B.Danger of Distracted DrivingC.Simulated Driving for Students D.Advantages of Computer ProgramsIf you want to do your kids a favor, consider having them walk to school. Walking to school provides many benefits – improving academic performance, reducing anxiety, boosting spirits, better sleep, a sense of independence, having an opportunity to familiarize oneself with a neighborhood, to notice small details, to feel a sense of wonder at the surroundings. The list goes on.Parental fears still exist, however. Parents are terrified of cars, of injury, of harsh weather, of encounters with strangers and wild animals. These fears prevent parents from letting their kids do something that's actually enormously beneficial to them, despite the fact that removing an opportunity to be active contributes to an increase in childhood obesity, which can have a greater negative impact on a child's life than the risk of being injured due to being active. How do we go from being a society that does not encourage its children to walk independently to being one that does? Parents must face their own discomfort with letting go. Brussoni, an expert who researches children's outdoor and risky play, said "We want to move parents from focusing solely on protecting their child to building trust in their child’s abilities and strategies to support their child’s skills in navigating the streetscape."Schools can play a role by encouraging children to walk to school. Brussoni offers additional suggestions: "They should promote a culture that walking to school is the norm, help educate parents on why this is important, and consider closing the streets around the school to cars before and after school."Parents might do well to put themselves in their children's shoes. As adults, we know how good a morning walk feels to start off a day or to end one. Walking energizes us and cheers us up, and it can do the same for children. As we go through this pandemic that has shaken up all of our lives, it's a good time to practice new routines and establish new habits. Walking to school is a great place to start.15.What can we infer about kids’ usual way of going to school?A.They walk to school alone. B.They are driven to school.C.They ride bikes to school. D.They are led to school by teachers.16.What does Brussoni suggest parents do in paragraph 3?A.Focus on their child’s safety.B.Protect their child against injury.C.Believe their child’s abilities.D.Strike traffic rules into their child’s heart. 17.What does the underlined word “They” in paragraph 4 refer to?A.Schools. B.Societies. C.Governments. D.Children.18.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?A.To illustrate the roles of parents and schools.B.To advise parents to have kids walk to school.C.To promote a way of establishing a new routine.D.To encourage kids to form a good habit.1.B2.D3.B【分析】本文是一篇应用文。
