When I was a little girl, I had a calf(小牛)named Tiny. I loved Tiny as much as any kid loved their dog.The grass was still frosty(结霜的)in the morning when Dad showed me how to teach Tiny how to drink from a bucket. First I mixed up formula milk powder(配方奶粉)for her; Belle had her own calf, and we needed some of her milk for the house, so Tiny drank formula. I used warm water so Tiny would think she was drinking from her mother, then I wet my fingers with the formula and put them in front of Tiny's nose. She gave a little sniff (嗅), licked(舔)my fingers, then got all my fingers into her mouth and started sucking (吮吸)them like there was no tomorrow.Slowly I lowered my hand into the bucket as Tiny kept on sucking. Then I pulled my fingers out. Eventually, Tiny didn't need my fingers at all, but I still let her suck on them, because by then it just felt like her way of saying she loved me, too.Dad lifted Tiny up and moved her around, just like she was one of his own kids. I lifted Tiny too, but it was hard for me to walk with her, probably because I was a whole lot shorter than Dad. "If you lift Tiny every day, you'll be able to lift a full-grown cow," Dad told me, "But you have to lift her every day."Twice a day and sometimes more, I went out to the barn(牲口房)to feed Tiny and lifted her up as far as I could, burying my nose in her soft hair that smelled like fresh straw and damp skin. If she was lying down, I sat right beside her and told her all about my day in a soft voice. I liked being in the barn anyway, especially when Dad was there.Paragraph 1:Then we went on vacation camping. ________Paragraph 2:I arrived home at last! ________【答案】Paragraph 1:Then we went on vacation camping. It was what I'd been expecting for so long. But when the dream came true, I was hesitating whether to leave or not. Dad said we would be staying out for a whole week. In the next three days. I couldn't wait to hurry back home though Dad was against my crazy idea. On the way back, I kept asking myself the question, "Will Tiny miss me while I'm not with her?"Paragraph 2:I arrived home at last! Throwing my luggage onto the floor, I rushed into the barn where I saw Tiny. She looked a little thinner than before. At the sound of my steps, she looked up excitedly and tried to rise from the ground, but in vain. She simply touched my fingers with her nose. I failed to lift her due to her heavy weight but I still managed to feed her with newly-bought foods during my vacation. She felt quite better in no time.【解答】Paragraph 1:Then we went on vacation camping. It was what I'd been expecting for so long. But when the dream came true, I was hesitating whether to leave or not.

For some reason, words with silent letters have always bothered me.For example, consider these words: know, design, island, school, wrist, naughty, and salmon. All of these words have at least one letter that is not typically pronounced, and these words are just a very small part of words with silent letters in them. Some words are even worse, consider this word: colonel. Not only are some letters not pronounced, but letters that are not even there are pronounced.Even foreign languages, especially French, are guilty of this needless complexity and confusion.I know there must be some main historical reasons why the words are spelled and pronounced the way they are, but that does not mean bad traditions must continue to survive.Especially if they are no longer logical.Unfortunately, there is very little that anyone can do for it, because there’s no group of people who can change or have the right to change the English language for everyone. However, the only thing we can do is make changes in the way we talk and write in hopes that it catches on.For example, I pronounce the letter “l” in salmon on purpose to make people annoyed and to sound more different or complicated.I even pronounce colonel the correct or French way.I can only hope these two minor changes to the English language make sense to you, and you will help to keep up these minor changes forever in your everyday life.67.We can learn from the passage ________.A.colonel is pronouncedB.salmon is pronouncedC.all the words with silent letters come from FrenchD.linguists will solve the problem of dumb letters68.Which of the following is the main reason for silent letters?A.French language. B.Historical reasons.C.Some linguists D.Bad traditions.69.The underlined phrase “catches on” probably means “________”.A.becomes popular B.gets acrossC.follows the fashions D.doesn’t fall behind70.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?A.Troubles in everyday life B.Traps in English wordsC.Words with silent letters D.Necessary changes of languages第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)依照短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

The most amazing thing about her, however, is that she’s even swimming at all. She doesn’t have a tail.Grace lost her tail as a baby when she got caught up in a fish trap. When the dolphin arrived at the Ocean Park in December 2005,she was fighting for her life. “Is she going to make it?” Her trainer, Abbey Stone, feared the worst. Grace did make it --- but her taildidn’t. She ended up losing her flukes and the lower part of her peduncle. Over the past six years, she has learned to swim without her tail. Dolphins swim by moving their flukes and peduncle up and down. Grace taught herself to move another way---like a fish! She pushed herself forward through the water by moving her peduncles from side to side. The movement put harmful pressure on Grace’s backbone. So a company offered to create a man-made tail for her. The tail had to be strong enough to stay on Grace as she swam but soft enough that it wouldn’t hurt her.The first time Grace wore the artificial tail. She soon shook it off and let it sink in the bottom of the pool. Now, she is still learning to use the tail. Some days she wears it for an hour at a time, others not at all. “The tail isn’t necessary for her to feel comfortable,” says Stone, “but it helps to keep that range of motion(动作) and build muscles(肌肉).”Now, the dolphin is about to get an even happier ending. This month, Grace will star in Dolphin Tale, a film that focuses on her rescue and recovery. Her progress has inspired more than just a new movie. Many people travel from near and far to meet her. We do know, however, that they existed over 5,500 years ago in ancient Asia. The oldest known transport wheel was discovered in 2002 in Slovenia. It is over 5,100 years old. Evidence suggests that wheels for transport didn’t become popular fora while, though. This could be because animals did a perfectly good job of carrying farming tools and humans around. But it could also be because of a difficult situation. While wheels need to rollon smooth surfaces, roads with smooth surfaces weren’t going to be constructed until there was plenty of demand for them. Eventually, road surfaces did become smoother, but this difficult situation appeared again a few centuries later. There had beenno important changes in wheel and vehicle design before the arrival of modem road design. In the mid-1700s, a Frenchman came up with a new design of road—a base layer (层)of large stones covered with a thin layer of smaller stones. A Scotsman improvedon this design in the 1820s and a strong, lasting road surface became a reality. At around the same lime, metal hubs (the central part of a wheel) came into being, followed by the pneumatic tyre(充气轮胎) in 1846. Alloy wheels were invented in 1967, sixty years after the appearance of tarmacked roads (柏油路). As wheel design took off, vehicles got faster and faster.64. What might expl ain why transport wheels didn’t become popular for some time?A. Few knew how to use transport wheels.B. Humans carried farming tools just as well.C. Animals were a good means of transport.D. The existence of transport wheels was not known.65. What do we know about road design from the passage?A. It was easier than wheel design.B. It improved after big changes in vehicle design.C. It was promoted by fast-moving vehicles.D. It provided conditions for wheel design to develop.66. How is the last paragraph mainly developed?A. By giving examples.B. By making comparisons.C. By following time order.D. By making classifications.67. What is the passage mainly about?A. The beginning of road design.B. The development of transport wheels.C. The history of public transport.D. His invention of fast-moving vehicles.语句学习1. The result is overcrowding on the road system, which is one of the problems the local governments are faced with.[2] When people travel to other towns, the problem might be relieved by getting them to park outside the town. Buses could be provided to take them to the centre. These Park and Ride projects are increasingly popular in the UK. At Southerton, for example, a council-funded project led to a 15% drop in city centre traffic over five mouths. [3] What the council found, though, was that the project proved somewhat unpopular with shop owners in the area outside the centre. Many of their shops relied on passing car drivers for some of their trade. As the number of people driving past dropped, so did their incomes.[4] Making car driving expensive is another way of ________________________. Road taxestend to mean that people use their cars less. Fining drivers who are in areas where cars havebeen banned can also tend to leave their cars behind.[5] However, one thing has to be got right for any solution to succeed. If we expect people to give up the habit of driving, we must give them an alternative they can rely on. Constant delays, unannounced changes to the timetable and sudden cancellations all discourage peoplefrom using public transport. People will only see it as a real choice if the buses and trains are on time. 66. What causes overcrowding on the road system according to Paragraph 1?(no more than12 words)___________________________________________________________________67. What should people do when traveling to other towns according to the Park and Ride projects?( no more than 14 words)___________________________________________________________________68. Why were some shop owners unhappy about the project? (no more than 10 words)___________________________________________________________________69. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 4. (no more than 8 words)___________________________________________________________________题二:任务型阅读湖南卷Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.[1] Many of us invest valuable time, energy and money planning our vacations. We do this because we know for sure that going on vacations must be good for us. Research proves this feeling without a doubt. Vacations help us perform better at work, improve our sleep quality and cushion us against depression.[2] Yet, despite these benefits, many of us return home with a feeling that our last vacation was OK - but not great. In order to change this, some mistakes should be avoided. A classic one for vacation planners is attempting to maximize value for money by planning trips that have too many components (组成部分).Perhaps you’re planning a trip to Europe, seven cities in 10 days, and you realize it will cost only a little more to add two more destinations to the list sounds fine in theory, but hopping from one place to the next hardly gives an opportunity to experience what psychologists call mindfulness-time to take in our new surroundings, time to be present and absorb our travel experiences. Another mistake is that we worry too much about strategic issues such as how to find a good flight deal, how to get from A to B,or which destinations to add or subtract from our journey. These issues may seem important, but our psychological state of mind is far more important.[3] Actually, vacation happiness is based on the following top rules. First, choose your travel companions wisely, because nothing cont ributes more significantly to a trip than the right companions. Second, don’t spend your vacation time in a place where everything is too expensive so as to maintain a positive mood. Third, shop wisely, for meaningful experiences provide more long-term happiness than physical possessions.。

Communication PrinciplesHow you see yourself can make a great difference in how you communicate. “Every individual exists in a continually changing world of experience of which he(or she)is the center”.(71)Many communication scholars and social scientists believe that people are products of how others treat them and of the messages others send them. But every day we experience the centrality of ourselves in communication. A student, or instance, may describe a conflict with a teacher as unfair treatment: “I know my teacher doesn’t like the fact that I don’t agree with his opinions, and that’s why he gave me such a poor grade in that class.”The teacher might say the opposite. Each person may believe that he is correct and that the other person’s view is wrong. The concept of self originates in communication. Through verbal and nonverbal symbols, a child learns to accept roles in response to the expectations of others. You establish self-image. The sort of person you believe you are, by how others think of you. Positive, negative, and neutral messages that you receive from others all play a role in determining who you are(73). Communication itself is probably best understood as a dialogue process. Our understanding of communication comes from our interactions with other people. In a more obvious way, communication involves others (72)in the sense that a competent communicator considers what the other person needs and expects (74)when selecting messages to share. So, the communication begins with the self,as defined largely by others, and involves others, as defined largely by the self.Communication occurs almost every minute of your life.(75)If you are not communicating with yourself(thinking, planning, reacting to the world around you), you are observing others and drawing inferences from their behavior. Even if the other person did not intend a message for you, you gather observations and draw specific conclusions.(76) A person yawns and you believe that person is bored with your message. A second person looks away from you and you conclude that person is not listening to you. A third person smiles(perhaps because of a memory of a joke he heard recently)and you believe that he is attracted to you. We are continually picking up meanings from others’ behaviors (77)and we are constantly providing behaviors that have communicative value for them.(78)More often than not,you may have hurt someone accidentally and you may have tried to explain that you did not mean that. You may have told the other person that you were sorry for your statement. You may have made a joke out of your rude statement. Nonetheless, your comment remains both in the mind of the other person and in your own mind. You cannot go back in time and erase your messages to others.(79)Communication cannot be reversed(倒退),nor can it be repeated. When you tried to recreate the atmosphere, the conversation, and the setting, nothing seemed right. Your second experience with a similar setting and person made far different results.(80)应试要点:1. 可先看题也可以先看文章2. 找准信息源3. 答案应与原文观点一致。
