阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

The world is like a big trampoline (蹦蹦床). We are all jumping on it. I have jumped to many places on this big trampoline. My family took me to Kenya and Israel. My school took me to Belize. My community (社区) took me to Appalachia, North America, and I took myself to the Bahamas. How lucky can one teenager be to go to all these places? Each trip left a vivid (生动的) picture in my mind. It reminds me that we are all living on one trampoline. Everything we do affects everyone else. My first trip to Kenya was a shock! People walked to work, four hours each way. One picture stays in my mind: a Kenyan woman at seven in the morning making her way to work, barefoot (赤脚的), down the side of a dusty road. I went to Israel a couple of years later. I found two races (种族) trying to jump on the same spot. In the village of Akko, I saw Israelis and Arabs working side by side. In Jerusalem, however, I found bullet (子弹) holes in the walls of Israeli homes. In Appalachia, I saw people go to bed hungry. In Belize and the Bahamas, I realized how tired our trampoline has become. Natural resources are running out. Animal life is in danger. We all live on the same trampoline. Every action we take sends ripples (波澜) across the trampoline. If everyone could understand how they affect one another, we would make the trampoline stronger.

( )41. The passage mainly talks about _.

A. how to play skillfully on a trampoline

B. how to make our world into a trampoline

C. how countries are connected with each other

D. how poor the country of Kenya is

( )42. The author compares the world as a trampoline in that _.

A. they are both interesting and fun

B. what one person does affects others

C. both of them are easy to break

D. both of them cost much to repair

( )43. What does the underlined phrase “two races” refer to?

A. Israelis and Arabs

B. Chinese and Americans

C. Africans and Indians

D. Jerusalem and Akko

( )44. Which of the following places have the most problems with environment according to the author?

A. Kenya.

B. Israel.

C. Appalachia.

D. Belize and the Bahamas

(B)

Is there anything more important than health? I don't

think so. “Health is the greatest wealth (财富),” wise

people say. You can't be good at your studies or work well

when you are ill.

If you have a headache, toothache, backache, earache

or bad pain in the stomach, if you complain of a bad cough,

if you run a high temperature and have a bad cold, or if you

suffer from high or low blood pressure (血压), I think you

should go to the doctor.

The doctor will examine your throat, feel your pulse, test your blood pressure, take your temperature, sound your heart and lungs, test your eyes, check your teeth or have your chest X-rayed.

After that, he will advise some treatment, or some medicine. The only thing you have to do is to follow his advice.

Speaking about doctor’s advice, I can't help telling you a funny story.

An old gentleman came to see the doctor. The man was very ill. He told the doctor about his weakness, memory loss and serious problems with his heart and lungs. The doctor examined him and said there was no medicine for his disease.

He told his patient to go to a quiet place for a month and have a good rest. He also advised him to eat a lot of meat, drink two glasses of red wine every day and take long walks. In other words, the doctor advised him to follow the rule: “Eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is.” The doctor also said that if the man wanted to be well again, he shouldn't smoke more than one cigarette a day.

A month later the gentleman came into the doctor’s office. He looked much more cheerful and much happier. He thanked the doctor and said that he had never felt a healthier man.

“But you know, doctor,” the man went on saying, “it's not easy to begin smoking at my age.”

( )45.The writer thinks that________.

A. health is more important than wealth

B. work is as important as studies

C. medicine is more important than pleasure

D. nothing is more important than money

( )46.The underlined part means “________”.

A. he was feeling better than ever

B. he wasn't a healthy man

C. he was feeling worse than before

D. he will be well again

( )47.From the last sentence of the passage, we learn the man_______before the doctor told him not to smoke more than one cigarette a day.

A. was a heavy smoker

B. didn't smoke so much

C. didn't smoke

D. began to learn to smoke

( )48.Which of the following is NOT TRUE?

A. The doctor usually tests his/her blood pressure when a person is ill.

B. The man told the doctor he couldn't remember things.

C. The man thanked the doctor.

D. The man didn't follow the doctor’s advice
