Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I’ll show you my point of view about culture and science. Firstly, would you please pay attention to the paper in my hand? We call it Dongbazhi(东巴纸),I bought it from Lijiang . As far as I know, our ancestors invented it and only a few people can make it know. It’s made of Raohua(荛花) , which is a kind of poisonous plant . Other insects can’t get close to it. So Dongbazhi can be kept for thousands of years. It’s a sign of our Chinese culture .And then, with the development of our science and technology, you will see this normal paper everywhere now .It becomes whiter and smoother, but it’s easier to be destroyed. At last, please look at the third paper.
I put it into a plastic bag and created a perfect vacuum. As you see, it’s not only whiter and smoother, but also can be kept longer. It’s a sign of our science, isn’t it? By showing these three pieces of papers, I would like to say, culture, which has colored our everyday life, sometimes can be considered as the mother of human beings. It makes us find something new. At the same time, I also would like to say, science, making great contribution to our society, can not be ignored by all human beings. It is the power that combines everyone’s intelligence together in order to solve the
problems we are facing in every field.
Without science, we will never know who we are, where we come from, how the wonderful world works, what to do for our future.
Without culture, how can we get the happiness from the literature, how can the beautiful buildings be different from countries or areas?
Without science, how can we improve the quality of our daily life ?
Without culture, how can the customs and spirit be delivered from generation to generation?
Look at that old map and think about the GPS in our car; Look at that red candle and think about the colorful lights along the road;
Look at that tired horse and think about the Honda through every street.
Both culture and science are something that we can not miss, they have been melt in our blood. Thanks for the old culture, it give us a small seed, thanks for the new science, it give us a big forest!。
