本课主要是通过了解动物的外形、生活习性及主要特点，能用英语笔头描述自己喜欢的动物学会描述动物并能写一篇有关动物的外貌生活习性的小短文，进一步培养和激发热爱动物、保护动物、维护生态平衡的朴素情怀。

How to write the descriptions about the animals.
教学过程
Step 1: Discussing ：challenges(智力大比拼)
Let’s di scuss ： What animals can swim? What animals eat grass? What animals eat meat? What animals eat leaves?What food do they like eating? Learn the new words grass, leaf (leaves)，meat.
Step 2:Talking
Enjoy the zoo pictures. Talk about where they live and what they do at night and in the day.
Learn the new words sleep，during，at night ，relax
Step 3:Reading.（Section3a）
Point out the three descriptions of animals. Ask students to take turns reading one aloud. Then draw attention to the pictures of animals below. Say, Write the letter of the animal in the blank lines above its description. There is one animal that is not described. Check the answers.
Step 4: Writing.（Section3b）
Call attention to the pictures of animals in 3a, and draw attention to the grass, leaves, and meat. Ask a student to explain each word or use it in a sentence to show he or she understands what it means.
See P11, 3b, Get the Ss to fill in the blanks in pairs．Then check the answers．Check the answers.
Step 5: How to write
Get the Ss to know the key points. Wri te a description of another animal like pig,，panda etc．Get several students to read their descriptions for the class．
