Why not look into the box, just once? She put her hand on the lid.
As Pandora raised the lid,the cottage became dark and there was the sound of thunder overhead. When she looked inside the box,a cloud of winged creatures flew out into the room.Epimetheus cried out in pain.

When she was alone in the cottage she stood looking at the mysterious box for a long time.It was made of a beautiful dark wood, which was so polished8 that Pandora could see her face in it.There was carving9 on the sides and corners,in a wonderful design of flowers and fruit. Here and there a face looked out from among the leaves. In the center of the polished lid10 there was the most lovely face of all,and it seemed to smile at Pandora.

1The Awesome World of Today vs The Olden DaysHey there! Jasmine here, an 11-year-old student who loooves learning about history and comparing the past to the present. Get ready to have your mind blown by how wildly different and exciting life is nowadays versus like, a gazillion years ago!Let's start with something we just can't live without - technology! Can you imagine a world with no phones, computers, or even light bulbs? That's what it was like waaaay back in ancient times. No Instagram, TikTok, or streaming movies and shows. How on earth did they survive?! Instead of snapping selfies, they had to sit for hours to get loro pintura (that's Spanish for "their painting") made. Boringgg!Speaking of tech, travelling must've been a total nightmare in those days. Nobody had planes, trains or even cars! You either walked everywhere or rode a smelly horse or camel if you were lucky. Flying from America to Europe in just a few hours? Yeahright, try several looong months sailing across the ocean in a tiny wooden ship. No thanks, I'll take an aeroplane any day!School back then was also super different and not in a fun way. You didn't get fun field trips, creative art projects or even recess time to run around! Just a grumpy old teacher droning on while you sat still on a hard bench all day. And get this - if you misbehaved they could actually hit you with a stick! Thank goodness for positive reinforcement nowadays.Another crazy thing was that humans didn't have basic things we take for granted like proper bathrooms, heating or air conditioning. Can you imagine having to go potty in an outhouse or shiver all winter with no heat? No thank you! They also didn't have clean running water, vitamins or decent medical care. A simple cold or infection could straight up kill you back then! While we're on the topic of health, let's discuss food and diet. Most ancient people were farmers or herders who only ate extremely basic things like bread, gruel, or whatever vegetable and meat they could grow or raise themselves. No pizza delivery, sushi takeout or even cereal and milk for breakfast like we enjoy today! And forget about dessert - sugary treats were considered an outrageous luxury.Another huge difference was how little they knew about the world around them. No textbooks, encyclopedias or access to the wealth of information we have on the internet. If you wanted to learn about dinosaurs, astronomy or ancient cultures, you were pretty much out of luck unless you were filthy rich and could afford private tutors. Peasants lived and died in the same tiny village never exploring beyond their small corner of the world. So boring! There are endless examples of how our modern era is leaps and bounds better than ancient times in pretty much every aspect of life. We're surrounded by incredible technology, scientific advancements, freedom to learn and explore, and opportunities our ancestors could only dream about. We're incredibly fortunate to live in the 21st century! At the same time, I think ancient people had certain skills that are getting lost in today's world like self-reliance, appreciation for simple pleasures, and strongerfamily/community bonds. With no TV, phones or distractions they likely talked, played games and bonded way more than we do nowadays. And while their lives were harder in many ways, they were deeply connected to the natural world and cycles of the seasons in a way we can barely understand.I certainly don't want to go back to living in the ancient world - no thanks to outhouses, lack of heat, and dying from a cold! But I do think we could learn a little from their resilience, self-sufficiency and ability to find joy in the little things. Maybe we could all put down our devices for a bit, go on a beautiful hike, and rediscover a childlike appreciation for the natural world around us. Who's with me?

There are tall skyscrapers, bustling streets, and so many cars everywhere! It's like a big, noisy jungle with lots of people rushing around. People knew each other and would say hello as they passed on the street. There were small shops where you could buy things like bread and milk, and everyone would gather in the town square for events and celebrations. There are so manydistractions and noise, and it can be hard to find a moment of peace in the city. But despite all the changes, cities are still vibrant and exciting places to live in.In conclusion, the city of today is very different from the city of the past. But both have their own charms and beauty. Whether it's the quiet simplicity of the past or the bustling energy of today, cities will always be special places where people come together to live, work, and play. The city may change, but its spirit will always remain the same.篇2Once upon a time, a long time ago, cities were very different from what they are today. Let me tell you about the differences between cities now and cities in the past.In the past, cities were much smaller and less crowded. People knew all their neighbors and would greet each other on the street. There were fewer cars on the road, so it was safer to walk or ride a bike everywhere. Nowadays, cities are huge and crowded with lots of tall buildings and skyscrapers. There are cars everywhere and the streets are always busy and noisy. In the past, cities had more green spaces and parks where people could relax and play. There were fewer buildings andmore trees and flowers. Nowadays, cities are full of concrete and glass, with very little greenery. People have to go to special parks to be close to nature. In the past, cities were not as polluted as they are today. There was less garbage and pollution in the air and water. People could breathe fresh air and drink clean water. Nowadays, cities are full of pollution from cars, factories, and garbage. The air is dirty and the water is contaminated. In the past, cities were safer and people felt more secure. There was less crime and violence on the streets. People could walk around at night without fear. Nowadays, cities are not as safe and crime rates are higher. People have to be careful and take precautions when going out.In conclusion, cities have changed a lot over the years. They have become bigger, busier, and more polluted. But there are still some things that have stayed the same, like the sense of community and the hustle and bustle of city life. I hope that in the future, cities will become more eco-friendly and sustainable for the next generations to enjoy.篇3Once upon a time, cities were very different from how they are now. In the past, cities were not as big and busy as they are today. People used to live in small houses and there were not as many cars on the roads. Instead of tall buildings, there were only a few low-rise buildings and most of the roads were made of dirt.In the past, people used to walk or ride bicycles to get around. There were not many shops or supermarkets, so people had to grow their own food or buy it from local markets. The air was much cleaner and the streets were not as crowded. Children used to play outside with their friends all day long, and there was always something fun to do.But now, cities have changed a lot. They have become much bigger and more crowded. There are tall buildings everywhere and the roads are always filled with cars and buses. People no longer know their neighbors and everyone is always in a rush. The air is polluted and it is hard to find a quiet place to relax. However, there are also many advantages to living in a modern city. Despite the differences between cities in the past and cities now, one thing remains the same – cities are theheart of our society and will continue to evolve and change in the future.篇4Hey guys! Today I wanna talk about the difference between cities now and cities in the past. But now, we have cars, buses, trains, and even airplanes to take us wherever we want to go. It's so much faster and easier to travel around the city now.Another big difference is the technology we have in cities today. In the past, people didn't have things like smartphones, computers, or the internet. But now, we rely on these things for almost everything we do. It's crazy to think about how much things have changed in such a short amount of time. But even with all these changes, some things stay the same. People in cities still work hard, play hard, and look out for each other. The sense of community is still strong, even in the midst of all this change. So, while cities now are different from cities in the past, they still have the same heart and soul that make them special. And who knows what cities will look like in the future? The possibilities are endless!篇5Once upon a time, there was a city that looked very different from how it looks today.
