Reflection essay

Learn from the PastLooking back upon my English learning path in the past 4 months, I was overflowed with mixed feelings of joy and sorrow. For from this semester, I started to break away from high school learning and picked up the way of learning English as an undergraduate. There have been many setbacks and hardships I have never been faced with before in learning English. Nevertheless, believing that there are always more methods than difficulties, I manages to overcome them and made some progress.Personally, the secret to learning English well is to develop a deep interest when you are learning English. In other words, I mean that you are supposed to be trapped in English when you are learning so that you can get the points you want to get. As an illustration, there was a time when my thoughts wandered, I spent two hours in memorizing words of a unit. Though I spent a long ti me, I didn’t really comprehend the words. And the next day I even could not spell the word. But when I concentrate on the words, I just need 40 minutes or less to grasp the words of a unit. To promote efficiency and address this challenge, I reflected on this matter. Nowadays, if I am going to do some reading or write papers, I will first ask myself a question “are you ready to devote yourself to English now ?” If my answer is “no”, I won’t start the work as it is no use learning English without attention. In this way, I learn English for greater efficiency. The grades of my words’ dictation are always more than 90 now.Specifically , using some learning strategies which maybe just fit me, to some extent ,I have made progress in my poorest parts of English, listening and vocabulary.I am attached to the belief that even if I do not understand, I have to listen. In my eyes, whether I can understand the context or not, listening is always studying. Although the temporary I do not understand, but my eardrum has begun trying to adapt to a new language pronunciation, adjusting the frequency of my brain, ready to accept a new information code, which itself is a leap. When at the beginning of this term, I was not able to clearly understand the VOA special English. However, I keep the habit of listening to the VOA special English unremittingly every day. And for now, I can more or less catch up with the rate of the special one.Besides, the most common method of learning English is to remember words. Although the words of the explanation is dead, the use of language is alive andmechanical understanding will cause great misunderstanding. At first, I tried to memorize as many new words as I can owing to my poor vocabulary. However, I found I just memorized the spellings of these words but did n’t know how to take them into effect. Thus, I changed my way.The word is not the most important, the key is context.Firstly, I read the verbs and recite their paraphrase and spelling. Then, I write down the words. After that, I learn the sentences and tie to apply the new words in my expressions of ideas. After everything is over, I write down their paraphrases and get a better understanding of the words. This method not only enables me to concentrate on the words, but also provide precious handwriting for me to review. Since I followed this method, I gradually can appropriately use the words I have learned recently into my writings and spoken English.Believe in that nothing is impossible with a willing heart. I will persist exploring learning methods and am ready for the challenges in the future.。

Recently, I read an essay that argued that social media is harmful to society. While I understand the concerns that some people have about social media, I believe that this argument is flawed. In this essay, I will refute the claims made in the original essay, and provide evidence to support my own position. The first claim made in the original essay is that social media platforms are addictive and can lead to mental health problems. While it is true that some people may spend too much time on social media, this does not meanthat social media is inherently addictive. In fact, studies have shown that social media addiction is relatively rare, affecting only a small percentage of the population. Furthermore, while excessive use of social media may contribute to mental health problems, it is not the only factor. Other factors, such as genetics, environment, andlife events, can also play a role in the development of mental health issues. The second claim made in the original essay is that social media is responsible for the spread of fake news and misinformation. While it is true that social media can be used to spread false information, it is not the only source of misinformation. Traditional media, such as newspapers and television, can also disseminate false information. In fact, studies have shown that traditional media outlets are more likely to report false information than social media platforms. Furthermore, social media platforms have taken steps to combat the spread of fake news, such as flagging and removing false content. The third claim made in the original essay is that social media is a breeding ground for cyberbullying and harassment. While it is true that some people may usesocial media to bully and harass others, this does not mean that social media is inherently harmful. In fact, social media can be used to combat cyberbullying and harassment. For example, some social media platforms have implementedreporting systems that allow users to report abusive behavior. Additionally, social media can be used to raise awareness about cyberbullying and harassment, and to provide support for victims. In conclusion, while social media may have some negative aspects, it is not inherently harmful to society. Claims that social media is addictive, responsible for the spread of fake news and misinformation, and a breeding ground for cyberbullying and harassment are flawed. It is important to acknowledge the potential risks associated with social media use, but it is also important to recognize the benefits that social media can provide. By using social media responsibly and taking steps to address its potential risks, we can enjoy the many benefits that social media has to offer.。

ReflectionsIntroductionIt is becoming increasingly clear that experience is the best teacher (Thomas and Cheese, 2005). I remember my first residential in Buxton as if it were yesterday. The memorable experience has, directly and profoundly, influenced my fundamental understanding of teamwork. The purpose of the essay is to make an individual self-critical analysis through the introspection of my strengths and weaknesses in team-working, communication skills, effective leadership and time management.CollaborationIt is my honor to be one of Team B6, whose outstanding performance was well recognized. The more important thing is the course brought home to me the value of teamwork.First and foremost, a team role is a proclivity to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way (Belbin, 2003). The essential benefit from teamwork is that it produces outcome rapidly and reasonably through the free exchange of ideas, information, and knowledge when suitably managed. Everyone of our team spared no effort to fulfill the task. It was the best evidence that we got the second position of “Town Trail”at the start of residential. Plunging into practices with enormous enthusiasm is closely related to success. Moreover, building trust may seem a typical challenge for any team (Kirkman et al., 2002), especially like us from the different cultural backgrounds. We made a success in “Stepping Stones”; nevertheless, we failed in “3D Puzzle” as a result of the lack oftrust despite the fact that the time was sufficient. It is unwise to trust people whom you do not know well, whom you have not observed in action over time (Handy, 1995). Hence in the future virtual team, we should build much reliance by frequent face-to-face interaction.Last but not least, high-quality planning under the efficient leadership is the vital way to victory. All the teams need to have meetings before making serious plan and decision (Hall, 1999). However, it also brings disagreement and conflict. A large number of people had difficulty in communicating with the negative emotions (Hall, 1999). The key to a successful performance appraisal is to structure the session so that both parties view it as a problem-solving process instead of a fault-finding process (Wells and Spinks, 1997). An efficient leader can exert an influence on coinciding with each other. To ensure a plan's success, he needs to continually revisit it to see if it requires fine-tuning (Stewart and Powell, 2004). Just as in “Walker”, I was the leader facing the different opinions at the meeting beforehand. We made a agreed decision after I managed to explain all the doubts. Finally, we got the full score in this task. The key to my success is that “you must always look downwards first before you look upwards” (Stewart and Powell, 2004).Communication SkillsIt is conceivable that communication plays an important role in the team which consists of persons in different races, cultures, and pronunciations. “Communication can produce a group-centered, co-operative perspective among members”(Hayes, 1997). Our main barrier to communication was pronunciation. That was the reason why we were disastrous in “Team Ski”. We misunderstood the words from the leader due to his poor pronunciation. The barrier disappeared gradually in the wake of increase in our communication as it should be.Furthermore, I apprehended that good communication should come from the heart(Bland, 1998). An excellent communication is based on respect for each other. The best method of attaining the esteem from others is to trust in others, stand on dignity and pay attention to behaviors due to different cultures. That is the reason why we succeeded in fulfilling “Blindfold Square”.Self-awarenessNothing is more important than to assess oneself through a self-critical reflective analysis. There is a general belief that self-awareness will have a positive effect on performance (Fletcher and Bailey, 2003).My strengths can be found from succeeding in accomplishing the task, such as enthusiasm, the sense of responsibility, conciliating the disagreements, and skating over the difficulties. The significance lies in the fact that I am fully aware of my weaknesses now. For one thing, my oral English is relatively poor compared with the classmates from other countries. It hampers the explanation of my thoughts. For another, comparatively speaking, I am timid and self-distrust. It is the reason that I missed many opportunities to reveal the ability. There is an old saying that lookers-on see more than players. I believe that understanding ourselves and becoming more self-aware is the significant component of the process of personal transformation (England, 2002).Self-managementOrganizations feel that teams are more effective than individuals because team members can share monitor the behavior of their teammates (Mathieu et al., 2000). The team benefited the most from the knowledge held by the team member whooccupied the most critical position in the workflow (Ellis et al., 2005). Correspondingly, one thing that was of the same importance as the above mentioned was the feedback both from my colleagues and the tutors; so that I could know my achievements, weaknesses and the adoptions we should take for the next move.In addition, I drew a lesson from “Team Orienteering” in terms of time management. It is very necessary to get the priorities right and manage the time correctly with the intention of clearing the tasks before the deadline. It is only the first step is to gain greater understanding and awareness of ourselves. What is more, it requires an inner revolution to realize what I imagine I might be (England, 2002).ConclusionTeams alike that are given a high degree of responsibility and that are expected to work with increased flexibility claim substantial improvements in morale, job satisfaction, productivity and quality (McGreevy, 2006). In the meantime, we can also improve communication skills, get self-awareness and realize self-management. Everyone is less than perfect. It is this that necessitates conscious teamwork. I believe it will certainly profit me to build up my self-confidence.I will do my utmost to achieve the goal in life.Word sum: 1001Bibliography:Belbin, R.M., 2003.

Self-reflection is an important process that allows us to examine our thoughts, actions, and behaviors. It helps us gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and enables personal growth. Through self-reflection, we can identify our strengths and weaknesses, recognize patterns in our behavior, and make necessary changes to improve ourselves. One aspect of self-reflection is self-awareness. It involves being conscious of our thoughts, emotions, and motivations. By being aware of our inner world, we can better understand why we react in certain ways and how our actions impact others. For example, I used to have a short temper and would often lash out at others when I was angry. Through self-reflection, I realized that this behavior was hurting my relationships and decided to work on managing my anger better. Now, I take a moment to pause and reflect on my emotions before reacting, which has greatly improved myinteractions with others.Self-reflection also helps us develop empathy and understanding towards others. By reflecting on our own experiences and emotions, we can relate to the experiences and emotions of others. This allows us to be more compassionate and considerate in our interactions. For instance, I used to judge people who were always late and would become frustrated with them. However, through self-reflection, I realized that I sometimes struggled with time management myself. This realization made me more understanding towards others who struggle with punctuality and helped me become more patient and supportive. Moreover, self-reflection enables us to set goals and work towards them. By understanding our strengths and weaknesses, we can identify areas for improvement and set realistic targets. For example, I used to struggle with public speaking due to my fear of being judged. Throughself-reflection, I recognized that this fear was holding me back from reaching my potential. I set a goal to improve my public speaking skills and actively sought opportunities topractice. With time and effort, I was able to overcome my fear and become a confident public speaker. In conclusion, self-reflection is a powerful tool for personal growth and development. It allows us to gain self-awareness, develop empathy, and set goals. Through self-reflection, we can better understand ourselves and make positive changes in our lives.

This articulation step will provide you with a clear idea of the level of your knowledge. In the professional field, there is a process of CPD or Continuing Professional Development. As soon as an individual begins to practice critical thinking and reflects them on their goals and activities, they start the process of Continuing Professional Development, which has four distinct stages. The first stage is practice reflection, then comes planning, then action, and then comes evaluation. All thesestages come one after the other, in a cyclic manner. This practice helps an individual identify what is specific to him and what he especially can do to boost his professional growth. This incorporates an individual’s judgment on what is right and what is wrong. This judgment of what is right and wrong provides scope for improvement for an individual. Based on the profession an individual is engaged in, he or she is free to develop specific skills, techniques, and procedures that can benefit his area of expertise. This process, however, requires extensive planning supportedby strong actions. This helps the individual acquire new knowledge, as well.In the Continuing Professional Development, after planning and action, there comes evaluation. The level of critical reflection of an individual is shown in this stage. The benefits of what he has learned, the fruitfulness of the effort he has put in, lies in this stage of reflection.Concerning professional critical reflectivity, there comes responsibility from the sides of both the individuals and employers. The reflectivity will only develop if the professional environment is suitable for it. Some things need to be taught, but critical reflection has to be learned through experience. Reflection essay
Parkway college student:
HU DIE (NNDN 108025)
This is my first time come to A & E department for attachment. It is very different from what I think it all about. We can see some "interesting cases" here. Like one finger been cut off, fall down lead to head bleeding, very bad fever and most excited part is I saw some prison case. This is I never saw before. And I heard CGH is the only place treat the police case.
First day we just do some orientation about this hospital. Know where is where, but I was very confuse that day. This area is very complicate for me. But second day I go to nurse station in the morning and observation room in the afternoon. In the nurse station, we do some treatment for patient. Like dressing, give nebulizer, give IM injection( e.g. ATT injection), do ECG, eye irrigation, sometimes fleet enema, guide the patients where to wait where to go for x ray, provide urine test bottle, and IV infusion Most time we are doing all this. The most impression case was the patient's finger be cut off, bleeding all over. He is really in pain. I feel very scared. Just stand there watch what the staff do. Stop bleeding. And send to the doctor.
Then afternoon i went to observation room, in observation room, some patient come for observe only, but some wait for admission, send they to the ward, during this period, we do vital signs, HGT, give oxygen, monitor ECG depending on the patients' condition. Really can see some patients are very sick. And scream all over. We should calm they down, support their emotion. Luckily I got chance to stand in minor operation room, see two minor operation there. A child's head was bleeding because of fall down. And another case was drainage out the pus from the buttock.
But I think one challenging place for nurses is triage, the nurse should ask every single patient about their history and current complain, pain score, then decide to send to which doctor's room. We must be very observing there. How the patient appears to you. Is he/she in pain? Or any other problems. Then the triage nurses will consultant the patient. Chart down the vital signs, if the patient has diabetes, check the hypocount, if blood pressure really high, we must check hypocount also. It's really a challenge place. If the patient is very sick, then the patient will be sending to resuscitate room straight away. I saw the nurses and doctors work together there. Resuscitate the patient, usually the patient in resuscitate room is very weak. And the doctors are very nice, teach us a lot, how to diagnose patient, assess patient. Most of the patients are elderly. Emergency case, the staffs there work very fast. Most of the patient will be done an ECG, vital signs, that's the basic things need to do to the patient there. We must learn to act fast there. Anything we do not understand must ask. The patients' life's are in our hands.
I got one chance to do CPR in a real patient. The patient needs to be resuscitated. Find that in real situation is different from the theory, we no need to count how many compression have delivered, just do, finally we cannot save the patient's life. I really hope the theory in our
book can happen, hope he can come back. But it never happens. Make me feel very sad. When the doctor said: wait for the line to be flat. Really feel
so sorry to the patient. We cannot save him. I hope in the future, no such things happen anymore!
A & E is a very fast action place, otherwise we may lose patient very fast. Not every patient can be save back to life.
During this posting, we really can learn a lot, and the staffs are very nice to us. Teach us. No matter what I did not understand, they will explain very patiently to me.。
