为了满足中国所处大环境的需要，我国政府在申奥成功之后，在培养人们的英语交流、提高人们的英语表达能力方面做了很大的努力，同时也营造了很好的英语学习的氛围。
我国的英语教学工作在经历多年的发展之后已经取得了很大的发展，无论在教学工具、教学方式还是在教学内容方面都收获颇丰，但也存在一些不足，需要广大英语教学工作者在实践中逐渐的探索、改进。
一、从大学英语四、六级考试的改革的特点看中学英语教育的发展趋势大学英语四六级考试是全国最具规模的英语等级考试，在英语教学改革中也最具代表性。
经历二十多年不懈地探索，已经形成了一整套教学、考核模式。
这些模式对中学英语教学具有一定的方向性的指导作用，体现出了中学英语教育的发展趋势，具体表现在如下几个方面：第一，以多媒体教学方式增加英语教学的灵活性，提升教学质量。
中学英语教育则注重于基础能力的培养，在《英语课程标准》中明确指出要“倡导学生主动参与、合作、交流与探究等多种学习活动，改进学习方式，促进学生互相学习、互相帮助，体验集体荣誉感和成就感，发展合作精神，使学生真正成为学习的主人”（教育部，2001）。
