美国电影《费城》英语影评

<Philadelphia>——homosexual discrimination When it comes to homosexuals, people always feel sick and disgusted .To be honest, before I watched the film <Philadelphia>, I had been exactly one of them who can not stand homosexuals, considering them as shame and evil, let alone understanding their love. It is the film Philadelphia that converts my view on another kind of love between two persons.Philadelphia tells a story that an excellent lawyer called Andrew is dismissed by his boss, because they find he is infected with AIDS, and think it is a great shame for their company that he is a homosexual. Sad and disappointed, Andrew makes great efforts to seek for another lawyer to plead for him, fails and fails again, finally Joe, as eloquent as him, agrees to help him. I feel that there are three extraordinary parts in this film. One is the debate in the court, another is the homosexual ball, and the rest is the final occasion. In the court, Andrew faces with a group of people talking about his private affairs, tearing his old scar, and some ignorant people force him to nowhere by their lies and their law. In this case, Andrew says ‘I love the law. I know the law. I excel at the practicing’ and ‘Relief, that I never told him that I was a gay, just very relief’, not loudly but firmly. I can see the sadness and despair in his eyes, how desperate on earth he is! I just can not stop crying. If I were him, what did I do? Maybe forget the job, the case and find a hole to hide in. I deeply respect him as a strongman. At the same time, he is vulnerable, the grief in his eyes makes people want to protect him, comfort him. And the deep grief is shown before our eyes when Andrew listen to the opera called <La mamma morta>, the music flows into his heart as well as my heart. I can feel that my heart is trembling, and I can not merely sit on my seat, it is a shout of soul. A broken heart, a broken soul. His performance so shocked me that I know there is something changed, I start to abandon my old prejudice and rethink the love between the homosexuals. The nature of the homosexual love is love to o ——the most wonderful, pleasant, strangest and greatest emotion. Everyone has the right to love in whatever form. We can not scold one just because he or she loves one person who has the same sex as them. If you disagree, then how about the love? Love is absolutely fair and equal. The love between two same sex persons is the same as that between two different sex persons, which means caring for and sacrificing for each other. The love is identical, having nothing with race, country, age, wealth, and also sex. So there is nothing they do wrong, it is just love which is not wrong or right. At the end of the film, Andrew finally wins the case, but to my sadness, he is heavily ill and going to die. Ling in the bed, his family and friends come to him, smile and say ’see you tomorrow’. Everyone knows that there is no tomorrow for Andrew, so does he. But he is calm, and there is no regret for him because the most terrible thing in his life was coped with. At the end of the end, he says ‘I am ready.’ The simplest and the last word. I want to tell those people who discriminate homosexuals that our mothers give birth to us, we have the same beginning, maybe after that we walk on different roads, but we should not and have no right to make jokes of others or even discriminate them, no mater what it is, just because they are different from you, because when you do this, there may be someone do the same things to you, how do you think about that? So if you can not understand others’ choices, behaviors, opinions, things like that, please try to respect them and their rights. Otherwise at the end of life, you will understand how stupid you are, and thoroughly know nothing is important, we have the same destin y——die!。

Film Review on PhiladelphiaPhiladelphia, directed by Jonathan Demme, featured Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington ,tells a story about a AIDS patients who was fired because suffering from AIDS fight for his rights with legal. The whole story is simple, it seems like a simple civil dispute, but it catch particular attention because of two sensitive topics: homosexuality and AIDS.This film is mainly about AIDS, homosexuality and justice .More than a decade after AIDS was first identified as a disease, "Philadelphia" marks the first time that Hollywood has risked a big-budget film on the subject. The film profoundly shows people’s fear and discrimination for AIDS.At the moment,same-sex love is still considered abnormal and freaks. This kind of discrimination is normal and should be in most people's eyes. But virtually gave party injustice and shame. Homosexuality is equivalent to obscene. But in the film,we can see the true love between Andrew and his partner ,who loved him, support him and accompany him until the end of his life. How can we discriminate against a true love like this? The justice is another theme of this film. In the firm, Andrew was fired because of discrimination. But he fight for his right, and finally win the lawsuit. Just as in the film judge said in the court: "In this court room, justice is blank to race, creed, color and sexual orientation."The musicThe music in this film is very impressive, especially Streets of Philadelphia,La Mamma Morta and Philadelphia. The film is started in the sorrowful melody of Streets of Philadelphia, performed by Bruce Spingsteen .The lyric"the night has fallen, I'm lying awake ,I can feel myself fading away ,so receive me brother with your faithless kiss or will we leave each other alone like this on the streets of philadelphia"implied the unfortunate fate of the protagonist.Another climax of this film appeared in Andrew Beckett’s apartment. A ware of the end of life, Andrew danced in the famous opera ,La Mamma Morta, peformed by the Maria Callas. On the surface, the protagonist is describing the content and the background knowledge of La Mamma Morta, actually,he is showing his eager to life's call. This dance scene, conbined with the elegant opera, is really moving and touching. It is so wonderful processing and perfect acting skills, it make the film beyond discussed AIDS and social prejudice's special proposition and enter human tragedy aesthetic realm. In the end of the film, there is a video about Andrew’s childhood.Everything was so happy and fine,no AIDS ,no discrimination of gays. Just as the singing:I won’t be ashamed of love. The song Philadelphia reveales the fina pupose of this film.In conclusion,I think the law revealed by Philadelphia are linked with free and human kindness. This is not the appurtenance under cold authority and meaningless provision, but so saturated with human nature glory and warmth verdicts. Because it shows not only human established rules, but also the order of the nature. People born to be free. We should respect life, respect human rights, protect every birthright and give each a nondiscriminatory eye. Those are exactly what we can learn from Philadelphia.楚思09级市场营销二班2009131016 星期三晚上。

费城故事的影评

PhiladelphiaThe movie Philadelphia reflects some social problems by combining AIDS and homosexuality together, which draws people’s attention on homosexual and makes people introspect in what ways they should treat homosexuals. Instead of calling upo n people’s sympathy to homosexuals, I think the purpose of the film is to criticize people for their injustice and discrimination to homosexuals. At the beginning of the film, Andy conceals his illness and sex orientation, working as an ordinary person in the law company. Because of his excellent work, he receives appreciation of his bosses. Maybe in this period, Andy is looking forward to his wonderful future. What he doesn’t expect is that he gets fired ruthlessly after his secret is disclosed. The most frustrating part is that when he tries to protect his rights, all he receives is discrimination, and even lawyers, whose task is to safeguard the rights and interests of people, shows indifference to him. When he gets into library to look up some books related to HIV-discrimination, he is asked to go to a private research room by the librarian for the sake of avoiding spreading the virus to other people. At this moment, Andy’s eyes fills with tears; he must be heartbroken. At that time in America, AIDS is viewed as much more than a transmissible and lethal disease and homosexuality is considered as an unreasonable and disgusting thing.Nowadays, homosexuality is not unfamiliar to us, but sometimes people still can't accept this fact. Ordinary people won't interest in the same gender and they won't try to build a relationship beyond friendship with the same sex. Above all, homosexuality has nothing wrong with itself. Different people have different lifestyles including homosexuals. They do have families, friends and contribute to our society. We should respect them rather than discriminating them.。

Andy was an excellent lawyer in a high-grade law firm. And he was prompted and authorized an important case. He paid his effort to prepare the case for nine days. After his effort, he finished the compliant of the case in the tenth day, but the compliant strangely disappeared and it appeared until the last moment. Although he won the case but he was fired due to his incompetence, but in fact, one of the partners found some lesions on his forehead which was the sigh of AIDS. The partners were afraid to be infected, so they found an excuse to frame Andrew and fire him.Andrew knew the reason why he was fired, he wanted to be treated fair and not be discriminated because of his AIDS.So he tried his best to find lawyer to defend him, but no one wanted to help him. Joe was the tenth lawyer he found. When Andrew mentioned his AIDS, at the beginning, Joe was also afraid to be infected, and he also hated Andrew’s sexual orientation. Andrew is a gay, and he has his boyfriend, migul. He refused to help Andrew. But one day, in a library, Joe noticed Andrew trying to find proof to defend for himself. Joe was moved by Andrew, and he determined to help Andrew. The two excellent counselors worked together to search the lawdocumentary to find proof. They met many difficulties. On the one hand, Andrew suffered physical pain, to make matter worse; Andrew’s private life is exploited before the public, such his homosexual, his AID. But he didn’t afraid anything, he just wants to eliminate the discrimination with AIDS and homosexuality. In the process, Joe gradually understood the homosexuality, and eliminated his prejudice and wanted to fight for the homosexual’s rights. After conquered many difficulties, they won the case and got a large sum of settlement. But when Joe went to the hospital to tell Andrew the good news, Andrew was going to die. Andrew used his weak voice appreciate his thanks to Joe. At that moment, they understand each other, both of them are the fighters for justice.Fortunately, Andrew’s boyfriend, migul, accompanied Andrew all the timeuntil the last moment. It showed the grateful love of homosexuality, whatever the problem they met, they never get off another’s hands.Andrew’s words impressed me, he said, “It’s every now and again not often but occasional, you get to be a part of justice being done, that’s really quite thrill when that happens.” it make me feel the power of justice. The most impressed part of the film is that, Andrew’s family support Andrew fight for his rights. It reminds me to think about the two questions, the homosexuality and AIDS. I have never discriminated the AIDS patient, but I show a little uncomfortable of homosexuality. And now I know more about the problem, and I change my opinion. The gay should be allowed, should be treated fair and should be blessed. Because no matter when, there is nothing wrong with love, and lovingsomebody who has the same sex with you isn’t an error. So we should give more tolerance to them, and make them feel more comfortable to love and to be loved. The film ends up with a song, and the song tells us Philadelphia is a country filled with love, and it is the place where the Declaration of Independence is published。

Today, AIDS continues to directly affect thousands of gay and bisexual men and injecting drug users every year, but it has also become a serious problem among heterosexual African Americans and, more recently, among the Hispanic/Latino population. “I‟m not a smart man, but I know what love is。” Love is film‟s eternal theme .We give our tears and laughter generously. The love in this film is a process which a man with low IQ speaks out “love”.I think that Forrest doesn‟t only say to Jenny, but also say to his mother and Buba. Because the love realized by Forrest includes maath of his mother and many times Jenny‟s disappearance let Forrest know what love is .In fact, no matter whether Jenny love Forrest, Forrest gets love and we get love from this film.

Film Review on Philadelphia
Philadelphia, directed by Jonathan Demme, featured by Tom Hanks and Danzel Washington, tells a story about a AIDS patients who has fired because suffering from AIDS fight for his right with legal. As the groundbreaking achievement in Hollywood's first look at AIDS discrimination, the movie is mainly about two sensitive topics: homosexuality and AIDS.
To analyze the contradictions in the story from the theory of Structuralism, there are two sets of conflicts: the endless case with Andrew’s former employer, and Andrew’s good fight against sickness.
The gay character, Andrew, a social outcast that facing to the death, is still fighting against the serious illness and the discrimination from the society all the way; The black lawyer, Miller, someone doesn't like homosexuals, agrees to take the case for sympathy. In the name of justice and humanity, in the spirit of compassion, Andrew and Miller tried to fight for legal right in a common action. They gradually become friends and come to understand one another during the quarrel. From Miller’s eyes, we can feel And rew’s love to life and live. There is a impressiveness scene in the movie: Listening to the inspiring music, Andrew put on a drip, described to Miller his hunger for affection, and his desire for life.
Life is not what you see in the films, it’s much harder. “Philadelphia” was made in 1993, In that time, people’s attitude to AIDS and homosexual are stern, rigid and unreasonable. Most people still feel a hearty dislike about homosexuality, much more a gay with AIDS. "Philadelphia" leads the trend of innovation to the AIDS discrimination. It gave hope to the many others who face this dilemma at some point or another in their lives. On the other hand, it also tries to turn our view to the AIDS.
For viewers of the movie, the meaningful question is not whether they sympathize with Tom Hanks' AIDS-afflicted, but whether that sympathy opens up a different perspective on the victims of the disease in the real world. We should ask several questions to our selves: Should the social outcast have the unfair treatment? What the Public opinions to AIDS? Will any sex orientation of the people be accepted by society? No matter what he is, he has the right to live on happily. That’s what I learn from “Philadelphia”.
when I see the light.
I know I'll be all right.
