影片讲述的是希腊裔美国女孩图拉为寻找真爱，与男友伊恩冲破重重阻力，最后举行了盛大的希腊婚礼的故事。
影片反映了希腊裔美国移民遇到的诸多希腊文化与美国文化的冲突，本文则是试图以此窥探希腊裔美国第一代和第二代移民在生活中如何处理这种跨文化的冲突，又是如何成功地融入到这种跨文化的环境中。

故事发生在希腊裔美国人的主要聚居城市——美国第三大城市芝加哥。
女主人公图拉生活在一个希腊式的大家庭中，虽然她是在美国长大的，但是她的家族却带有浓厚的希腊传统和文化的印记。
她的上一辈也就是第一代移民的思想和生活行为方式更多的还是受到原来国家传统和文化的影响，他们更倾向于保持原来的文化身份，较少受到居住国文化和生活方式的影响。
并且他们在培养他们的下一代，也就是我们说的第二代移民时，尽可能地希望下一代也传承他们原来的文化身份，给下一代灌输原来国家的思想，传统，文化和习俗。
但是，第二代移民一旦出了家庭这个小圈子后，接触到的更多的是居住国的文化和观念，这些思想无时无刻不在潜移默化中影响着第二代移民的观念。
于是，两种不同文化的冲突和融合也将始终渗透到第二代移民的成长过程中。
我们从以下几个方面加以分析：一、语言语言是人与社会沟通的基础，移民在居住国遇到的最直接的跨文化交流就是语言的交流。
希腊人的种族认同感非常强，希腊裔的美国人直到今天都保留着他们的本土语言。
第一代希腊移民在家里每天都要说希腊语，他们也用希腊语影响和塑造了他们的后代。
因此作为第二代希腊移民，在成长的大环境说的是英语，而在家庭的小环境中还必须学习他们的本土语言——希腊语。

美国自诩为“上帝之国” 但是美国很多人并不真正了解《圣经》，不清楚到 底什么是信教。在美国，宗教的世俗意义往往大于 宗教意义，他们大多认为，只有惧怕上帝的人，才 会在这世上规规矩矩、诚诚实实、恭恭敬敬地做人； 不怕上帝的人，则极有可能胆大妄为、自我膨胀、 为所欲为，并最终与罪恶势力同流合污。美国人信 教，其实是将宗教信仰作为道德约束，而不是惧畏 其神学力量。
东正教（正教会）的主张： 标榜正统性，所以也称为正教。他与天主教的差别主要 是以下方面 保守性：坚守古教义和古礼仪，基本不做什么调整 封闭性：不太强调传教工作，对与天主教和新教开展交 流和对话也不大热心 依附性：历史上一直强烈的依附于世俗政权，受其严格 的控制，不象天主教那样一直政教分离和教俗二元结构 分散性：一直没有统一的全球性的教会首脑机构。名义 上君士坦丁堡（即今伊斯坦布尔）大牧首处于首席地位， 但实际上莫斯科大牧首、耶路撒冷大牧首、安提阿大牧 首、亚力山大里亚大牧首并不受其节制，而且这些大牧 首对非本国的正教会辖区的影响也很有限 神秘性：强调通过祷告时的沉思默想来达到与上帝的直 接交通，很注重这种个体性的和不可重复性的信仰体验

古希腊人信奉多神教 现代希腊则是东正教国家 东正教Eastern Orthodox Church： 又称正教会或正统教会，是基督教的主要宗 派之一，是指依循由东罗马帝国所流传下来的基督 教传统的教会。它是与天主教、新教并立的基督教 三大派别之一，目前也是第二大教派。 “正教”的 希腊语（Orthodxia）意思是正统。
共性：

不同： 天主教强调普世性，其总部设在罗马梵蒂冈，称为 梵蒂冈教廷。所以天主教也称为罗马公教。其教会 组织体系自上而下，集中统一，教宗（即教皇）是 全球天主教会的领袖，由枢机主教团选举产生，除 非渎职或犯有异端罪，任职终身。
新教（在中国又称基督教、改革宗、誓反教、抗罗宗） 的主张： 唯独圣经，坚持圣经本身的绝对权威，不赞成以教会 来主导对圣经的解释，而应主要由个人凭借自己的信心 和良心还有圣灵的感动来理解 唯独恩典，认为既然耶稣基督是神—人之间的救赎中 保，那么神人间的沟通和交流就不需要教会发挥太多的 中介作用 唯独信心，强调首要的是对上帝的信从，反对单凭行 为或主要凭行为得救 各教会团体一般比较独立化，较为自由，但也容易造成 新的分化。实际上，新教也的确不是一个统一的教派， 而是分化的数十个教派的总称。其中，路德派、加尔文 派、圣公会是三大全球性的主流教派，这三大主流教派 内部也有不少不同的派别，并非铁板一块。
