手惰市安逸阳光实验学校高考英语二轮专题复习精品阅读理解部分之限时训练(四)阅读理解A breathtaking trick potentially left over from our ancestors might be found in us — the ability to sense oxygen through our skin. Amphibians(两栖动物), animals such as frogs that can live both on land and in water, have long been known to be capable of breathing through their skin. In fact, the first known lungless frog that breathes only through its skin was discovered recently in the rivers of Borneo. Now the same oxygen sensors found in frog skins and in the lungs of mammals have unexpectedly been discovered in the skin of mice.“No one had ever looked,” explained Randall Johnson, a biologist researcher.Mice and frogs are quite distant relatives, so the fact they have these molecules (分子) in common in their skin suggests they might well be found in the skin of other mammals, such as humans.“We have no reason to think that they are not in the skin of people too,” Johnson said. These molecules not only detect oxygen, but help increase levels of vital red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body. Normal mice breathing in air that is 10 percent oxygen—a dangerously low level similar to conditions at the top of Mount Everest, and about half that of air at sea level. However, mice that had the oxygen sensor HIF-1 a genetically removed from their skin failed to produce this hormone (荷尔蒙) even after hours of such low oxygen. These findings, if they hold true in humans, suggest one could raise the level of oxygen circulating inside the body. This could help treat lung diseases and disorders such as anemia (贫血症) without injecting drugs, which make up a multibillion-dollar market, Johnson said.Athletes also often try to get more oxygen delivered to their muscles in order to improve their performance. They often do this by training at high altitudes or in low-oxygen tents. The new study suggests they might want to expose their skin as well as breathing in low-oxygen air to improve their performance. “It’s hard to say what exactly might be done, however—there’s a lot we don’t know yet,” Johnson explained. The scientists detailed their findings in the April 18 issue of the journal Cell.64. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?A. Johnson believes that oxygen sensors also exist in human skin.B. People have to surf the Internet to read detailed findings.C. It has been proved that these findings help treat lung diseasesD. It has long been expected oxygen sensors exist in mice’s skin.65. One of the functions of the molecules mentioned above is _______.A. carrying oxygen around the bodyB.improving athletes’ performanceC. detectingoxygenD. increasing level of oxygen66. What is Johnson’s attitude to the application of the findings to the athletes’ training?A. NegativeB. DoubtingC.Positive D. Hesitating67. The best title of the passage may be _______.A. Great Findings Benefit Athletes A LotB. Frogs And Mice Are Distant RelativesC. First Known Animal Breathes Through SkinD. People still move for these reasons, but new reasons for human migration are arising, such as job relocation(重新安置) and overpopulation. Three million migrants are moving from poor countries to wealthier ones each year, and increasingly, their destination is a neighboring country in developing parts of the world. People are moving within the developing world for the same reasons as they migrate to wealthier nations. People from poor countries are going to less poor countries, fleeing wars and conflicts. They are also responding to population pressures because some countries are densely populated, and they often have high population growth. Those people need to go somewhere else. There are three main reasons why people move. The basic categories and percentages are as follows, according to the Current Population Surveys (CPS):Family-related reasons account for 26.3%, including changes in marital (婚姻的) status, establishing a household and other family reasons; work-related reasons 16.2%, including job transfer, retirement, and other job-related reasons; housing-related reasons 51.6%, including new and better houses, better neighborhood, cheaper housing and other housing reasons; the remaining 5.9% of other reasons are attending college, the change of climate and health reasons.Americans have been migrating south and west for decades in search of better job opportunities and warmer climates. They have also been moving to places a little far from cities, in search of bigger yards and houses, lower crime rates and better schools. In 1950, nearly a fifth of the population lived in the nation’s 20 largest cities. In 2006, it was about one in ten. That’s why many American people say, “Big Cities Shrink as People Move South, West.”Between March 2005 and March 2007, 73.4 million Americans moved. Fifty-six percent of these moves were within the same country. Twenty percent were between counties but in the same state. Nineteen percent were moves to a different state. Some families even went abroad. Title: People on the

专题限时训练(二十)[社会生活型阅读理解(一)](限时:25分钟)AI've spent over a year in India, and in those 365 plus days, I've learned a lot about getting around Indian cities. My biggest lessons have been learned through being cheated, particularly by taxi and rickshaw (人力车) drivers, but that doesn't mean those are bad ways to travel, as long as you know what you're doing. Below are the best ways to get around the city of Delhi, India, and tips for how to keep from being the victim of scams (欺诈).Taking taxis is a great way to get around the city of Delhi and chances are, if you arrive in Delhi by plane, as soon as you make it through customs, you'll be swarmed by Indian taxi drivers. At the Delhi airport, be sure to arrange for a taxi to your hotel at one of the two Delhi Traffic Police Taxi Booths. One is inside the airport, and the other is outside. The key is to make sure to go to a booth run by the police, rather than by independent taxi drivers.Rickshaws are one of my favourite ways to get around Indian cities, in part because it's how the locals often travel. Auto-rickshaws are more common, but bicycle rickshaws are still used in Old Delhi. If you do have a chance to take a bicycle rickshaw, you should do it at least once for a unique experience that should only set you back about 15 rupees. Auto-rickshaw rates around Delhi range between 30 and 80 rupees, depending on the distance. If you really want to travel around Delhi like the locals, take a public bus. Indian buses become very crowded and most do not have air conditioning. They are, however, very cheap. A bus trip won't set you back any more than 15 rupees, as long as you stay within the city limits. Since Indian buses get so crowded, try to board the bus at the start of the route so you can get a seat. The train is a great way to get around within the city of Delhi. Fares are reasonable, between 6 and 22 rupees. All departure announcements are in both Hindi and English, and tokens can be purchased for between 6 and 22 rupees.1. The author is trying to ________ in Delhi through this text.A.give some advice of travellingB.expect us to travel aroundC.show his/her experiencesD.explain the difficulties of travelling2. To avoid being cheated, you ought to ________ if you want to take a taxi at the Delhi airport.A.pay more to the drivers to keep safeB.show your ticket to the driverC.go to a policerun boothD.go out of the airport3. The author suggests taking a rickshaw in order to ________.A.save some moneyB.enjoy the comfortable tripC.gain a unique experienceD.help the local rickshaw drivers4. What can we infer from the passage?A.You won't have to pay much if you travel around by bus in India.B.It will be difficult for you to get a seat if you get on the bus halfway.C.A rickshaw driver only charges whatever amount you give him.D.You'll have to speak English if you travel around in India.5. Which may be the topic that follows?A.Hotel recommendations in DelhiB.Weather conditions in DelhiC.Food and drink in DelhiD.Car rentals in DelhiBLife is to be enjoyed. There's no point in giving up something you enjoy unless you get something back that's even better. When people eat more healthfully, exercise, quit smoking, and manage stress better, they find that they feel so much better that it reconstructs the reason for making these changes from fear of dying to joy of living. The latest studies show that when you exercise and eat right:YOUR BRAIN receives more blood flow and oxygen, so you become smarter, think more clearly, have more energy, and need less sleep. Two studies showed that just walking for three hours per week for only three months caused so many new neurons (神经细胞) to grow that it actually increased the size of people's brains!YOUR FACE receives more blood flow, so your_skin_glows more and wrinkles less. You look younger and more attractive. In contrast, an unhealthy diet, chronic emotional stress and smoking reduce blood flow to your face so you age more quickly. Smoking accelerates aging because nicotine causes your arteries (动脉) to narrow down, which decreases blood flow to your face and makes it wrinkle earlier. This is why smokers look years older than they really are.YOUR GENES change. In May, a study was published in the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showing that changing your lifestyle changes your genes.YOUR TELOMERES (染色体端粒) get longer. Telomeres are the ends of our chromosomes (染色体) that control how long we live. As telomeres become shorter, then cells age more quickly, thus shortening your life.Besides, one of the most interesting findings in the study was that the mothers' awareness of stress was more important than what was really occurring in their lives. The researchers gave the women a questionnaire and asked them to rate on a three-point scale how stressed they felt each day, and how out of control their lives felt to them. The women who were aware that they were under heavy stress had significantly shortened and damaged telomeres compared with those who felt more relaxed. On the contrary, some of the women who felt relaxed despite raising a disabled child had more normal-appearing telomeres. In other words, if you feel stressed, you are stressed; if you feel fine, you are fine.1. Which of the following are good for lengthening one's life, according to the passage?①eat healthy food ②drink plenty of water③take exercise ④get up early⑤go to sleep early ⑥release one's stressA.①③⑥B.①②③C.①⑤⑥D.③④⑥2. The underlined words “your skin glows”in Paragraph 3 are closest in meaning to “________”.A.your skin becomes white as there is plenty of sunshineB.your skin becomes smooth as there is much blood in itC.your skin looks pink as you are healthyD.your skin becomes soft as you exercise enough3. In the author's opinion, when you exercise and eat right, you will experience some changes EXCEPT________.A.brains becoming clevererB.faces having fewer wrinklesC.arteries turning narrowerD.genes being changed4. From the last but one paragraph we learn that ________.A.mothers will have more damaged telomeres if they raise a disabled childB.mothers don't know how to handle stress effectivelyC.some women were asked to fill out a questionnaire about educating childrenD.mothers' positive attitudes are the key to managing their stress5. The best title for the passage would be “________”.A.Eat better, live betterB.Feel better, live longerC.Less stress, fewer diseasesD.Smoke more, age soonerCBig Brothers Big Sisters is based on the simplicity and power of friendship. Life could not go if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. So animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants.Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit. Most non-flowering plants don’t grow from seeds. They grow from spores. Spores are so small and light that they can float in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as the seeds. When these spores fall on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new plants.50. The main idea of the passage is that __________.A. plants are important for lifeB. plants cannot grow without airC. there are many plants around usD. we cannot live without water51. For example, one day when I was about five, I was going to school on the bus by myself (this was the late 1960s). My mother had given me exactly the right money for a return ticket.I held out my hand with the money in it--one big coin on top of one little coin. The bus conductor took the big top coin only and she gave me a ticket, but it was a pink one for a single journey. I needed a white one for a return journey, but I was too frightened to say anything. When school finished for the day, I couldn't catch the bus home--I had to walk. As a grown-up, whenever I've been in a situation where I need to say something or take some action, this early memory of my bus ride comes back to me, and I'm able to take control of the situation.I would like to say to the director, Bret Ctfrysler, carry on making this kind of programme. Too much TV these days is quiz shows and so-called "reality programmes".I appreciate the human story that can make me laugh and cry. Yours faithfully, Chris Daniels1. What is Chris Daniels' purpose of writing this letter.A. To persuade Bret Chrysler to turn away from quiz shows.B. To entertain other readers with old news pictures.C. Prince Paris from Troy had stolen away the Greek queen; Helen. The Greek warriors set sail for Troy to fight for their queen. The battle outside Troy lasted for ten years. The men were fed up and wanted to return to their homes. Athene, goddess of war gave Ulysses the idea for a plan to end the war. They built a big wooden horse which they put in the middle of their encampment(营地). Next they pretended to abandon their camp. In reality many soldiers hid inside the wooden horse.Once they thought the camp had been abandoned the Trojans went out to check. They needed to know if the war was really over. Everyone needs a break, and vacations are not meant for serious study. Instead, they’re a great way to take a break and enjoy a good book. The Spring Festival is coming up so this is the perfect time to discuss some great English language literature to take on a long train journey or while you’re hanging out with the family. Before getting into the recommendations, we need to determine your English reading comprehen sion level so you don’t pick a book which is so challenging that it’s stressful or so simple that it’s boring. If you’re at the beginner level, there are two options: reading a children’s book or reading a book that you’ve read in Chinese translation. Thi s will help you get over any unfamiliar words or phrases, since you’re already familiar with the story. If you’re at the intermediate level, popular books like pop fiction, mysteries and thrillers are good options, as they’ll be guaranteed page turners and that will increase the possibility of your getting all the way through the book. For advanced readers, science fiction, classic works of literature or contemporary prize winners (Booker, Nobel, Pulitzer)are good options. The most important thing is to pi ck a book that you’re really interested in. When I pick up a new book in Chinese, the first few chapters are always really hard to get through, as I have to get accustomed to the way the individual author uses the language. But after the first few chapters, things get a lot easier, especially if I get involved in the story. Some of my favorite Chinese-language eye candy are books that are series like Brothers by Yu Hua or The Dancer by Hai Yan. I like them because there’s always a lot of action and story de velopment to keep me involved, which helps me make it through those first few chapters.Another great way to keep yourself motivated over the holiday is to find a friend who’s interested in reading the same book. You can make goals that you both want to achieve anddiscuss plot lines or vocabulary issues with each other by SMS or e-mail. I’m currently doing that with my friend Laura. We’ve been doing this since we were classmates in Chinese at college. Some quick recommendations: Harry Potter, start with the first book and go on from there; the Narnia series; anything by US writer Michael Crichton or British writer Agatha Christie; and if you like horror, US writer Stephen King is always unusual and fun. But really you should just find a topic or author that you’re interested in, and the rest will go from there. Happy reading!-from 21st Century(January 21, 2009)(B)Ambition is a necessary quality in life. It is the force which drives us on to use whatever talent we have got. If we haven’t got some degree of ambition, these talents will not be used for our own and other’s benefit. We must continually want to be better than we are. Without ambition we are just jellyfish that flop through life. We only react to events; we don’t try to control them.Ambition, however, can have several defects.First of all it can be unrealistic. We may not be able to see the limits of our own abilities, so we do ambitious things that are completely beyond us. Our career masters can see our good qualities and our limitations objectively. They may tell us that we haven’t th e ability to deal with people and would make good businessmen. We refuse to take their evaluation. We keep on trying. Many years and many disappointments later we are forced to accept their judgment. But what a waste of time our ill-founded ambition has caused us!Secondly, our ambition can be too concentrated. We devote our attention to one narrow aim, such as getting distinctions in our science subjects. Everything that may draw us away from this aim is cut out of our lives. In the end we get our distinctions. But what damage we have caused ourselves in the process! We are isolated beings who only care about a particular examination. And we probably won’t make good scientists. We lack the breadth of view necessary for success in higher studies.Thirdly, our ambition can be limited to lifeless objectives. We want to gain money, or power, or membership of some circles. Persons who feel inferior try to make up by seeking the respect of others through possessions of these artificial signs of worth.Fourthly, our ambition may be self-centered. Instead of directing some of our ambition towards community improvement we may exploit members of the community in the interests of self-advancements. In later life we may be ambitious for the success of our children but we regard this success as only a further mark of our own success.Ambition is necessary in the lives of individuals---necessary for their own improvement and for the improvement of the community in which they live. But, like all blind forces, it must be directed if it is not to cause disaster. It must be tightly controlled by the head and the heart. Otherwise ambition may demand too high a price in terms of human qualities.1.improve2. benefiting3. enable4. lacking5. greater6. reputation/fame7. selfish8.others’9. Conclusion 10.master。
高考英语二轮专题复习 阅读理解部分之限时训练(八)

2012届高考英语二轮专题复习精品阅读理解部分之限时训练(八)阅读理解New York times, Nov, 24,2011-It is not just any bug, but the native nine-spotted ladybug. And its reappearance is something of a relief, because it is the official New York State insect, even though the last recorded sighting of it in New York was 29 years ago.Its absence had not gone completely unnoticed. There was a moment in 2006 when the State Assembly, realizing that the state insect had left the state, tried to replace it with a different species of ladybug, an attempt that fortunately gave in to law.And now—after all these years—the state insect has been found. Like so many other New Yorkers, it was seen summering in Amagansett. Peter Priolo, a volunteer participant in an effort called the Lost Ladybug Project, found the ladybug on July 30 in a patch of sunflowers during a group search he had organized.“I didn’t realize it was a nine-spotted when I found it,” Mr. Priolo said. He was on his way to do an end-of-the-day ladybug record, so, he said, “I put it in my jar and hurried back to meet with everybody.”If the ladybugs are making a comeback, it is only beginning. The lost Ladybug Project started surveys in 2000. As of 2006, only five nene-spotted ladybugs had been found in North America in the previous 10 years, none of them in the East. Then one lone ladybug was found in Arlington, Va. None had been found in the East since, and only 90 have been reported in North America. After scientists at Cornell confirmed Mr. Priolo’s find, they went to the Amaganset t farm in mid-August to lead a search that turned up about 20 more of the bugs. An area between rows of carrots and beans turned out to be a hot spot. “We found a lot of them on cosmos and zinnias,” said Dr. Losey said, an insect expert. The farm is part of the 10,000-acre Peconic Land Trust in Amagansett, and it is organic. For ladybugs, Dr. Losey said, “you couldn’t design a better place.”Dr. Losey wants to find out if it makes sense to reintroduce this strain of the ladybug in other areas. And he expects volunteers to be back out in the field when ladybug season starts again in the spring. Now, he said, “we need to find out more places where there are just as many.”49.The last time the New Yorkers saw their state insect in .A.2000 B.2006 C.1998 D.198250.The New Yorkers are so delighted to see the insect because .A.it has some bright spots on its backB.it is the official insect of the cityC.it had been out of sight for quite some timeD.it is a new species unknown to New York51.What does the second paragraph of the passage imply?A.It’s against the law to bring new insects to New York.B.The State Assembly don’t like to live with Ladyb ugs.C.The absence of the state insect had never been known.D.The state insect had to leave because of a new species.52.From the last two paragraphs we know that .A.only some insect experts are really interested in ladybugsB.Dr Losey is quite confident about the future of the insectC.most ladybugs have m moved to live in the down areaD.more vegetables will be grown to welcome the state insect完型填空(共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分)Far from a Family ChristmasMy Air Force room in Florida was 36 and quiet—I was alone. Washington D .C.has the National Gallery of Art (美术馆); Paris has the Louvre; London, the British Museum. Florida International University (FIU) in Miami also shows art for people to see. And it does so without a building, or even a wall for its drawings and paintings.FIU has opened what it says is the first computer art museum in the United States. You don’t have to visit the University to see the art. You just need a computer linked to a telephone. You can call the telephone number of a University computer and connect your own computer to it. All of the art is stored in the school computer. It is computer art, produced electronically (采用电子手段) by artists in their own computers. In only a few minutes, your computer can receive and copy all the pictures and drawings.Robert Shostak is director of the new computer museum. He says he started the museum because computer artists had no place to show their work.A computer artist could only record his pictures electronically and send the records, or floppy discs (软盘), to others to see on their computers. He could also put his pictures on paper. But to print good pictures in paper, the computer artist needed an expensive laser (激光) printer.Robert Shostak says the electronic museum is mostly for art or computer students at schools and universities. Many of the pictures in the museum are made by students. Mr Shostak says the FIU museum will make computer art more fun for computer artists because more people can see it. He says artists will enjoy their work much more if they havean_audience. And the great number of home computers in America could mean a huge audience for the electronic museum.( )1.The main purpose of this text is to give information about________.A.famous museums through the worldB.a computer art museum in Miami, U.S.A.C.art exhibitions in Florida International UniversityD.latest development in computer art( )2.To see the art in FIU museum, your special needsinclude________.A.floppy discsB.a computer and a printerC.pictures and drawings on paperD.a computer connected to the museum by telephone line( )3.What are stored in this museum?A.Paintings drawn by means of computer.B.Different styles of paintings.C.Old paintings.D.Drawings done by art students of FIU.( )4.The museum was started when________.A.Robert Shostak wanted to do something for computer scientists B.Robert Shostak wanted to help computer artistsC.art students needed a place to show their worksD.computer scientists wanted to do something about art( )5.The words “an audience” in the last paragraph here refer to ________.A.art studentsB.owners of computersC.exhibits in the museumD.those who can enjoy art(二)Most young people enjoy some forms of physical activities. It may be walking, cycling or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kind, football, hockey, golf, tennis, or it may be mountaineering. Those who have a passion (热情,激情) for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountains? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activities to which men give their leisure.Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no manmade rules, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a different kind, which would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from manmade rules that makes mountaineeringattractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. If we compare mountaineering with other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “game”. We would be mistaken in this assumption. There are, it is true, no “matches” between “teams” of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. This sport requires high mental and physical capacities.C.it requires mental and physical qualitiesD.mountaineers depend on each other while climbing( )9.Which of the following is TRUE?A.Mountaineers compete against each other.B.Mountaineers compete against other teams.C.Mountaineers compete against nature.D.Mountaineers compete against international standard.( )10.What is the best title for the text?A.MountaineeringB.Mountain ClimbersC.Mountaineering Is Different From Golf And FootballD.Mountaineering Is More Dangerous Than Other Sports(三)Diana Jacobs thought her family had a workable plan to pay for college for her 21yearold twin sons: a combination of savings, income, scholarships, and a modest amount of borrowing. Then her husband lost his job, and the plan fell apart.“I have two kids in college, and I want to say ‘come home,’ but at the same time I want to provide them with a good education,” says Jacobs. The Jacobs family did work out a solution: They asked and received more aid from the schools, and each son increased his borrowing to the maximum amount through the federal loan (贷款) program. They will each graduate with $20,000 of debt, but at least they will be able to finish school. With unemployment rising, financial aid administrators expect to hear from more families like the Jacobses.More students are applyingfor aid, and more families expect to need student loans. College administrators are concerned that they will not have enough aid money to go around. At the same time, tuition(学费)continues to rise. A report from the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education found that college tuition and fees increased 439% from 1982 to 2007, while average family income rose just 147%. Student borrowing has more than doubled in the last decade.“If we go on this way for another 25 years, we won’t have an affordable system of higher education,” says Patrick M. Callan, president of the center. “The middle class families have been financing it through debt. They will send kids to college whatever it takes, even if that means a huge amount of debt.”Financial aid administrators have been having a hard time as many companies decide that student loans are not profitable enough and have stopped making them. The good news, however, is that federal loans account for about three quarters of student borrowing, and the government says that money will flow uninterrupted.( )11.According to Paragraph 1,why did the plan of the Jacobs family fail?A.The twins wasted too much money.B.The father was out of work.C.Their savings ran out.D.The family fell apart.( )12.How did the Jacobses manage to solve their problem?A. 2009年高考英语二轮复习专项限时训练-阅读理解
2009年高考英语二轮复习专项限时训练·阅读理解A“Creativity is the key to a brighter future,” says education and business experts. Here is how schools and parents can encourage this important skill in children. If Dick Drew had listened to his boss in 1925, we might not have a product that we now think of as of great importance: a new type of tape. Drew worked for the Minnesota Mining Company. At work he developed a kind of material strong enough to hold things together. But his boss told him not to think more about the idea. Finally, using his own time, Drew improved the tape, which now is used everywhere by many people. And his former company learned from its mistake. Now it encourages people to spend 15 percent of their work time just thinking about and developing new ideas.Creativity is not something one is just born with, nor is it necessarily a character of high intelligence. The fact that a person is highly intelligent does not mean that he uses it creatively. Creativity is the matter of using the resources one has to produce new ideas that are good for something.Unfortunately, schools have not tried to encourage creativity. With strong attention to test results and the development of reading, writing and mathematical skills, many educators give up creativity for corr ect answers. The result is that children can give back information but can’t recognize ways to use it in new situations. They may know the rules correctly but they are unable to use them to work out practical problems. It is important to give children choices. From the earliest age, children should be allowed to make decisions and understand their results. Even if it’s choosing between two food items for lunch, decision-making helps thinking skills. As children grow older, parents should let their children decide how to use their time or spend their money. This is because the most important character of creative people is a very strong desire to find a way out of trouble.1. What did the company where Drew once worked learn from its mistake?A. They should encourage people to work a longer time.B. People should be discouraged to think freely.C. People will do better if they spend most of their work time developing new ideas.D. It is necessary for people to spend some of their work time considering and improving new ideas.2. According to the passage, creativity is ________.A. something that most people are born withB. something that depends mainly on intelligenceC. a way of using what one has learned to work out new problemsD. something that is not important to the character of a person at all3. Why do schools tend to fail to encourage creativity?A. They give children too many choices.B. They are not strict enough with children.C. They care too much about examination marks.D. They do n’t understand the importance of education.4. Which of the following skills is the most important in developing creativity?A. Reading.B. Writing.C. Mathematical skill.D. Decision-making.BA new study finds that the animal known as man’s best friend can also be a good friend to the heart. Researchers in California say they have found that even just a short visit with a dog helped ease the worries of heart patients. The study divided the patients into three groups. In Group A, a dog and a person visited each patient for twelve minutes. Patients in Group B received just a human visitor for twelve minutes. And members of Group C received no visitor, human or canine(犬的).The dogs would lie on the hospital bed so the heart patients could touch them. The researchers say some patients immediately smiled and talked to the dog and the human visitor. Dogs, in her words, “make people happier, calmer and feel more loved.”The researchers examined the patients before, during and after the visits. They measured stress levels based on blood flow and heart activity. They say they found a twenty-four percent decrease in the group visited by both a dog and a person. They reported a ten percent decrease in the group visited by a person only. There was no change in the patients without any visit. These patients, however, did have an increase in their production of the hormone epinephrine(epinephrine肾上腺素). The body produces epinephrine during times of stress. The increase was an average of seven percent. But the study found that patients who spent time with a dog had a seventeen percent drop in their levels of epinephrine. Patients visited by a human but not a dog also had a decrease, but only two percent.1. The author believes that _______.A. the dog can take the place of most medicinesB. the dog is the most popular pet for manC. the findings of the research cannot be trustedD. visits by a human work better than visits by a dog2. Which of the following best shows the stress level changes in the groups of patients? BACC3. From the research findings we may conclude that _______.A. the less the body produces epinephrine, the betterB. the longer a visit lasts, the happier the patient should beC. the patients enjoyed the dogs’ company more than the human visitors’D. it’s impossible for heart patients to recover without dogs’ visits4. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A. Worried Heart PatientsB. Epinephrine and StressC. Good Friend to the HeartD. Three Groups of PatientsCAn Earthship is a home that is built of materials such as old tires and aluminum cans. It is the idea of a man named Michael Reynolds. Many Earthships are more or less self-sufficient because they provide their own heat, air and water. They often have gardens watered and fed by waste water. They are comfortable and ecologically friendly. The main material used in building Earthships is tires. Tires are plentiful andcan't be recycled like paper, plastic, and metal. While building supplies for most houses can be very expensive, old used tires are free.First, the tires are packed tightly with dirt. Each full tire weighs as much as400 pounds. The tires are then stacked like bricks. The walls are extremely strong. They also help keep an even temperature in the house (between 60 and 70 degrees) without heating and cooling systems. The walls inside the Earthship are made of aluminum cans that are held together by cement. Then they are coated with adobe or stucco. The roofs of Earthships are sloped so that rain and snow run into large tanks. These tanks hold all the water for the house, and pumps push the water through the pipes. Sometimes, water flows in certain areas of the house as waterfalls! Water that has been used is pumped out into the gardens where owners grow much of their own food.In most of these houses, the southern side has huge windows that take in winter sunlight as a source of heat. Summer sun does not come in through the south windows, so it doesn't get too hot in the summer. The house also has solar panels that gather energy for lights and hot water and cooking. The Earthships have all the comforts of a regular house without the high cost of electric bills! In a time when we are running out of energy resources, pollution is bad, and waste is piling up, Earthships are the best places to live in. For people who truly care about the environment,Earthships provide a great alternative to traditional houses. You won't be giving up any comforts, and the styles are attractive. We all hope that more and more people will build Earthships and take a huge step toward helping the environment and saving our planet.1.What is the main idea of this passage?A. Earthships are a good way to live and protect the environment.B. Tanks hold water collected from rain and snow.C. It's important to grow your own food in a vegetable garden.D. People who live in Earthships usually live in the desert.2.Which of the following is NOT explained in the passage?A. How an Earthship is built.B. What an Earthship is mainly made of.C. They were invented by Michael Reynolds.B. Water that has been used is pumped out into the garden.C. They are comfortable and ecologically friendly.D. The tires are packed tightly with dirt.4. This can include TVs, cell phones and computers and other office electronics, electronic toys and videos machines. Today, the average turnover(更换)rate for a computer in the United States is every two years, according to the environmental group, Greenpeace. The group's Dai Yun says e-waste is a global problem. "The electronic industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The high speed of growth in this industry means more and more electronic products are being wasted and thrown away. If no one decides to retrieve the old products and process them properly, the electronic waste will sweep over the earth like the huge wave behind me and pollute the Earth seriously."Greenpeace works out that 20 to 50 million tons of e-waste are produced globally each year. The components(部件)in many electronic products contain harmful chemicals that pollute ground water and the environment. At present , the U.S. has no federal law for the disposal (处理) of e-waste although a few states have e-waste recycling programs in place, but there is no law. The U.S. exports much of its e-waste to third world countries, such as India and China, where workers took apart computers for valuable parts, hoping to sell them for money. But harmful wastes expert, Dr. Bakul Rao, says that's a dangerous practice. "From now on, the recyclers are not very educated. All they know is they can retrieve copper or gold out of it. So, the easiest way to do that is leach (过滤) it out in an acid or burn it off to retrieve it. So, that's where they don't know how to deal with it, neither do they have any health systems in place. So, their exposure is more."1. Which of the following is most likely not to be a form of e-waste?A. A mobile phoneB. A radioC. An e-bikeD. A table2.
