January 2019.He was riding as a passenger in the car when the accident happened.“When they said,'It's time,'they rolled him out and we followed,” John said.“Both sides of the hallway were lined up recent study, pizza was ranked as the food most associated with symptoms of addiction, according to the Yale Food Addiction Tool. The psychological response to pizza's ingredient combinations is partially explained by the fact that highly processed foods like potato chips and pizza, with added amounts of fat, carbohydrates and salt, are most associated with behavioral indicators of addiction, such as loss of control over consumption and continued consumption despite negative consequences, according to Erica M.Schulte,a doctor in psychology at the University of Michigan who led the study. The combination of pizza's ingredients “seem to be especially rewarding and do not occur together in foods found in nature and this may contribute to its association with addictive-like eating behaviors,” Schulte explained. In fact, another recent study found that the combination of fat and carbohydrates seems to raise the reward potential of highly processed foods more than either alone.“There is likely something more rewarding in the combinations of those ingredients that can result in an addictive process in some individuals,” Schulte said.Perhaps it's a survival mechanism.“If you were really starving, pizza is a type of food that would be totally enough to stop your hunger. The fat gives you satiety, the sugar is satisfying, and the salt is going to keep you alive,” Civille said.Herbert Stone,a sensory scientist for 50 years, has worked with some of the nation's top pizza companies in order to increase pizza's appeal to consumers.“That combination, when heated, has enormous appeal,” he said.“It's addictive because there is nothing bad about it.There is nothing not to like.”28.What might be the cause of pizza addiction according to Schulte?A.The materials for making pizza.B.The way it is prepared.C.The pleasant taste and smell.D.The energy it provides.29.What does “either” refer to in paragraph 3?A.One of the two studies.B.Pizza or potato chips.C.Carbohydrates or fat.D.Pizza or other processed foods.30.Why would pizza companies work with Herbert?A.To make pizza more nutritious.B.To fight against pizza addiction.C.To study how to prepare pizza.D.To make their pizza more popular.31.From which is the text probably taken?A.A biology textbook.B.A health magazine.C.A research paper.D.A travel brochure.DThese are dark days for supplements(养生片剂).Although they are a $ 30-billion-plus market in the United States alone, some of them, such as vitamin A and fish oil, have now flopped in study after study. If there was one supplement that seemed sure to survive the tests,it was vitamin D.People with low levels of vitamin D have significantly higher rates of virtually every disease you can think of.Health experts believe that most of us aren't getting enough of this essential vitamin.Vitamin D is manufactured by the skin with the help of sunlight. It's difficult to obtain in sufficientquantities through diet. And today,90 percent of us spend about 22 hours indoors every day.And when we do go outside,we've been taught to wear sunscreen to protect ourselves from dangerous UV rays.Sunscreen can reduce our natural production of vitamin D,so we've been told to compensate with vitamin D pills.Yet vitamin D supplementation has failed in clinical trials. The sun benefits us more than that.About ten years ago,Dr.Richard Weller was researching nitric oxide,a molecule(分子)produced in the body that lowers blood pressure. He discovered a previously unknown biological mechanism by which the skin uses sunlight to make nitric oxide. It was already suspected that rates of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke all rise the farther you get from the sunny equator(赤道),and they all rise in the darker months. Then he came up with a theory:Could exposing skin to sunlight lower blood pressure?Sure enough, when he exposed volunteers to the equivalent(等量)of 30 minutes of summer sunlight without sunscreen, their nitric oxide levels went up and their blood pressure went down.Wouldn't all those rays also raise rates of skin cancer?Yes,but skin cancer kills surprisingly fewer than three per 100,000 in the United States each year. For every person who dies of skin cancer, about 80 die from diseases caused by high blood pressure.32.What does the underlined word “flopped” in paragraph 1 mean?A.Appeared.B.Expanded.C.Failed.D.Returned.33.What might be a reason most of us lack vitamin D?A.We aren't eating a healthy diet.B.We expose ourselves to little sunlight.C.We aren't taking enough vitamin D pills.D.We use up the vitamin D manufactured by the skin.34.Which of the following can describe nitric oxide?A.It rises up during dark months.B.It can bring nothing but harm to us.C.It results from an abnormal biological reaction.D.It is high among people living near the equator.35.What could be the best title for the text?A.Do we take too many supplements?B.Do we really need sun protection?C.Is the sun to blame for many diseases?D.Can sunscreen protect us from skin cancer?第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

湖南省长沙市一中09-10学年高二上学期第一次月考(英语听力整理) 1. W: It’s a quarter past five pm. M: Yes, we still have 45 minutes before the plane leaves. 2. M: Good afternoon, Mrs. Brown, can I help you? W: Yes, I’d like to choose a gift for my son’s birthday. M: Here are some new bicycles, would you like to have a look? 3. M: Would you like me to go with you? W: I’d rather you stay here and look after the things. 4. W: There is a ticket for you, sir. M: What’s the matter? W: You drove down a one-way street, the wrong way. 5. W: Why didn't you make an appointment to see the doctor last week when you first twist your ankle? M: The injury didn't seem serious. Then I decided to go today, because my foot still hurts when I put my weigh on it. 6-8 W: Oh, excuse me, Mr. Green, I almost forgot, there is a phone message here for you, a doctor Brown called and asked you to call him back. M: Where is he now, do you know? W: He is staying at the Blackwood Hotel, room 808. M: Thank you very much. Do you happen to have the number of the Blackwood? W: I am sorry I don’t, but you can get it from Information, just dial 118. M: Oh, could I trouble you for changing a dollar? W: All right, here is your change. By the way, the public phones are over there on your right. M: I see, thank you. 9-11 Mr. and Mrs. Smith and their children were going to spend their holidays in the country. They had to be at the railway station before 11:40 in the morning. “We’ll have to be ready by 11 o'clock, orwe’ll be late.” At 11:10, they still weren’t ready yet, except Mrs. Smith. She was sitting quietly in a chair in the garden. Her husband and children were surprised that she was not in a hurry until the car arrived. Then Mrs. Smith smiled and said to them, “Well, before I went to bed last night, I moved all our clocks and watches 20 minutes ahead!” 12-14 M: I can’t see why you need to go out to enjoy yourself. Why can't you have a nice time at home watching TV with me? And when you are at home, you’re either reading a book or something, you never actually sit and enjoy a good program with me.? W: I don’t want to watch TV. I find it boring. M: Oh, it’s not always boring. Come off it! W: Well, I’m sorry, but it usually is. I just don’t think watching all this TV is good for me. I can only watch about one program a week.? M: So you think it’s better to go out, do you W: Well, I just feel there are lots of things to do that you can learn and to be watching TV is not something I want to do.? M: OK, you name something that we can share.? W: What about when we do our music, for example, we share that.? 15-17 M: Do you like living in the college? W: It’s not bad. Sometimes Rose turns her radio up too loud and makes too much noise then I get angry. Sometimes I leave my books lying around, and she gets angry. But usually we get along. Anyway,it’s very convenient to go to class everyday. Oh, here is a picture of her taken when we went to visit my family during vacation. M: And this last one? W: That’s my dog, Spot. M: Let’s go in here and order some coffee while we look at your pictures. W: Good idea, oh we both like coffee, please. Ok, here is one of Rose, my roommate, I took this picture right after we arrived at the college this fall, we had just met in fact. And this was our room while we were packing our things. M: You certainly had a lot of boxes. How did you ever find enough room for everything? W: In the beginning we thought we never got it all arranged, but now we're comfortable. Luckily for me, Rose keeps her things neat. 18-20 Many people believe they are supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day, or about two liters. Why? Because that is what they have been told all their life. But a recent report offers some different advice. Experts suggest people should obey their bodies; they should drink as much water as they feel like drinking. The report says most healthy people meet their daily needs for liquid by letting thirst be their guide. The report contains some general suggestions. It says women should get about two-point-seven liters of water daily, and men should about three-point-seven liters. But wait -- in each case, that is more than eight glasses. There is an important difference. The report does not tell people how many glasses of water to drink. In fact, the experts say it may be impossible to know how many glasses are needed to meet these guidelines. This is because the daily water requirement can include the water content in foods. As you might expect, the Institute of Medicine says people need to drink more water when they are physically active. The same is true of those who live in hot climates. Depending on heat and activity, people could need twice as much water as others do. But that was only part of what the board said. It also said that most of this amount is contained in prepared foods.。

Today, many 36 and companies around the world use standardized tests such as TOEFL to 37 students’ abilities. Thousands of people every year take these kinds of tests in order to enter or graduate from a school, or get a better job.In many educational systems throughout the world, students take regular multiple-choice (多项选择的) achievement tests. They have to 38 these tests in order to move to a higher level, or graduate from an educational institution. Many supporters of this type of traditional evaluation believe that students learn best, and 39 their knowledge, by memorizing facts, and information. Many 40 of this way of learning also believe that teaching students to pass a test means teaching them to do lots of exercises.Educational reformers, however, believe that standardized tests are 41 and can only measure some of a student’s ability. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception (接待). I was quite wrong. Then man wouldn’t even look at my chair. The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same , and the third and, the fourth-so I decided that my approach must be wrong.I went into the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper, “ Would you like to buy a chair?” He looked it over carefully and said, “Yes, not a bad cha ir. How much do you want for it, sir?” “Twenty pounds,” I said. “OK,” he said, “I’ll give you twenty pounds. ” “It’s got a slightly broken leg,”I said. “Yes I saw that, it’s nothing.”Everything was going according to plan and I was getting excited. “What will you do with it?” I asked. “Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done.” “I’ll buy it,” I said. “What do you mean?
