1Making Candied Snow Pears for the First TimeI was so excited when my mom told me that we were going to make candied snow pears this weekend! I had tried the delicious candied fruit before when we bought it from the store, but I had never made it myself. I could hardly wait to get started on this fun cooking project. On Saturday morning, my mom and I went to the grocery store to get all the ingredients and supplies we would need. First, we picked out 8 big, ripe pears. My mom said we wanted the pears to be just a tiny bit firm, not too soft and mushy. We also bought a box of rock sugar, some bottles of white vinegar, and a big bag of regular white sugar. When we got home, my mom had me wash the pears really well under cold water to make sure they were clean. Then she showed me how to peel the pears using a small knife, being very careful not to cut myself. I felt like a real chef getting to use asharp knife! The pears looked so pretty and green once the skin was all peeled off.Next, my mom cut each pear in half vertically and used a spoon to scoop out the core and seeds from the center. She let me do a few of the pear halves myself after she had shown me how. I made sure to scoop out all the seeds so they wouldn't make the candied pears taste bitter.Once all the pears were cored, my mom had me put them in a big pot and cover them with cold water. She added some white vinegar, which she said would help keep the pears a pretty white color instead of turning brown. The vinegar smelled kind of strong, but my mom assured me the candied pears wouldn't taste like vinegar at all. Then came my favorite part - adding the sugar! My mom poured a whole box of rock sugar into the pot with the pears and vinegar water. Rock sugar is so cool looking, with all its big golden crystals. I loved watching them dissolve and turn the water a beautiful clear golden-brown color. After the rock sugar was fully dissolved, my mom put the pot on the stove and turned the heat up to let it simmer. I had to be very careful to stay away from the hot stove so I didn't burn myself. The pears simmered in the sugar syrup for about 45minutes, with my mom coming over every so often to gently stir them. When the time was up, my mom carefully removed the pot from the heat and let it cool for a little while so the liquid wouldn't be boiling hot. Then she strained out the pear halves with a slotted spoon and placed them in a baking dish. We ended up with a pot full of sweet golden syrup and lots of soft, tender pear halves. Now it was time to let the pears soak up even more sugar! My mom had me pour the whole bag of regular white sugar all over the pear halves to completely cover them. I thought that seemed like a crazy amount of sugar, but my mom said that's what makes the pears turn into delicious candied treats.Over the next two days, my mom had me stir and flip the pear halves every few hours so they could soak up plenty of sugar from all sides. I couldn't believe how slowly they absorbed the sugar - it seemed to take forever! But little by little, the pears transformed from pale pear halves into beautiful snow-white candied fruit. Finally, after two full days of soaking up sugar, the candied snow pears were ready! My mom drained off any remaining syrup, and I got to try my very first homemade candied pear. Itwas so amazingly sweet, almost like biting into crystallized sugar, with just a hint of fresh pear flavor. Absolutely delicious! We ended up with a huge platter piled high with perfect snow-white candied pear halves. They looked almost too pretty to eat! Over the next few weeks, I happily snacked on our homemade candied pears as a special after-school treat. They were even better than the store-bought kind.Making candied snow pears was such a fun experience from start to finish. I feel so proud that I got to be a part of the whole process, from peeling and coring the pears, to adding in the sugar, to patiently letting them absorb all that sweet goodness. This was definitely one of my favorite cooking projects ever! I can't wait until next year when we can make another big batch of delicious candied snow pears.篇2My First Time Making Candied Snow PearsI was so excited when my teacher, Mrs. Johnson, told our class that we were going to make candied snow pears! I had tried the delicious dessert before when my grandma made it, but I had never made it myself. I couldn't wait to learn how.The first step was to gather all the ingredients and supplies we would need. Mrs. Johnson passed out the recipe to everyone and went over what we would need:8 ripe pears4 cups white sugar4 cups water1 lemonA big potTongsA slotted spoonBowlsI raised my hand and asked, "What kind of pears do we use?""Good question, Johnny," Mrs. Johnson said. "We use a type of pear called a snow pear. They are crisp and sweet when ripe."Once we had all our ingredients ready, it was time to start cooking! Mrs. Johnson had us wash our hands really well. Then she picked two students, me and Sophia, to help her at the front of the class.First, we had to peel the pears. It was a little tricky getting the peels off in one long spiral, but after a few pears I got the hang of it. We put the peeled pears in a big bowl as we went.Next, we worked together to mix the sugar and water in the big pot on the hot plate. We added some lemon juice too to help keep the pears from turning brown. I loved watching the bubbles start to form as the liquid heated up.Once the sugar water was simmering, it was time to add the pears. Using the tongs, I carefully placed each peeled pear into the hot syrup one by one."Make sure you don't crowd the pears," Mrs. Johnson instructed. "They need room to move around and get coated evenly."We let the pears simmer away for about 30 minutes, using the slotted spoon to gently turn them every so often so they candied on all sides. The whole room smelled like sweet pears! After a while, the pears became translucent and took on a ruby red glow. Finally, it was time to take the candied pears out. Using the tongs again, I carefully lifted each one out and put it in a bowl tocool off. The syrup they were in looked like liquid rubies itself! I couldn't wait to try one.Once they had cooled for a bit, Mrs. Johnson cut one pear into slices to share with the class. I was the first one to raise my hand to try a piece. The pear was soft but kept its shape, with a delightfully sweet glaze and just a hint of lemon. It was absolutely delicious! The rest of the class agreed that the candied snow pears were amazing. We all got to take a few pear slices home with us in little baggies. I ate mine right away and savored every sweet bite.On the way home from school, I couldn't stop thinking about how much fun I had making the pears. I was really proud that I got to help cook them right at the front of the class. I kept picturing all the bubbling syrup and the bright red candied pears. As soon as I got home, I ran straight to the kitchen and told my mom all about it. "You have to let me make them again for our family!" I begged her. She smiled and said we could try making a batch together over the weekend.I could hardly wait to show my grandma my new candied snow pear making skills! I was so excited to make the delicious dessert again and again. Cooking is so much fun, especially when you get to eat your creation at the end. I can't wait for more yummy adventures in the kitchen!篇3The First Time Making Candied Snow PearsI was so excited when my mom told me we were going to make candied snow pears! I had tried them before when my grandma made them and they were deliciously sweet with a nice crunchy texture. I couldn't wait to learn how to make them myself.Mom said the first step was to get all the ingredients together. We went to the grocery store and bought several bags of small pears, a big box of rock sugar, a jar of honey, and some bamboo skewers. Back at home, Mom laid everything out on the kitchen counter."Okay, first we need to wash the pears really well," Mom instructed. I turned on the sink faucet and put the pears in the plastic colander. Using my hands, I gently rubbed each pear under the running water to rinse off any dirt or chemicals. Thepears felt firm but smooth. Once they were all clean, I shook the colander to get rid of excess water.Next, Mom showed me how to peel the pears with a small paring knife. "Be very careful," she warned as she handed me the knife. I stuck my tongue out in concentration as I carefully peeled off the skin in a spiral pattern from the top to the bottom. The first couple pears I did were a little mishapen, but I got better the more I practiced. Soon I had made my way through all the bags of pears. The hard part was using the bamboo skewers to core and quarter the peeled pears. Mom demonstrated by sticking the sharp skewer through the blossom end of a pear all the way to the stem end. Then she twisted and pulled to remove the core. After that, she sliced the pear into quarters lengthwise. I tried it but struggled a bit getting the quarters even. A few pear pieces broke apart."Don't worry, you'll get better with time," Mom said encouragingly. "An important part is making sure all the pear quarters are around the same size so they'll cook evenly."Once all the pears were cored and quartered, it was time to parboil them. Mom filled a big pot with water and brought it to a boil on the stove. Carefully, she added the pear quarters and letthem cook for 3 minutes until they turned slightly translucent. Using a slotted spoon, I fished out the parboiled pear quarters and spread them out on a baking sheet to cool and drain. While the pears cooled, Mom made the candying syrup. She combined the rock sugar and honey in a pot with a cup of water. Turning the heat to medium, she stirred continuously until the rock sugar fully dissolved into a clear, thickened syrup. Finally, it was time to start candying the pears. Using tongs, I carefully added the pear quarters to the hot syrup one by one, making sure they were all fully submerged. The sweet aroma instantly filled the kitchen."Now we just have to let them simmer for 30-40 minutes, adding more syrup if needed to keep the pears covered," Mom explained. "That's what allows the pears to slowly absorb the sugary syrup until they become nice and candied."I set a timer and helped Mom keep an eye on the pot, gently stirring and spooning extra syrup over the top every few minutes. Little by little, the pear quarters turned translucent and took on a shiny, candied appearance.Once the timer went off, Mom carefully removed the candied pears from the syrup using a slotted spoon and spreadthem out on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. She let them cool completely before serving. The final step was stringing the candied pear quarters onto skewers to make them look nice for eating. I worked really hard trying to make the patterns look pretty. Mom sprinkled some extra rock sugar over the top to give them an extra sweet crunch. Finally, after all our hard work, it was time to taste our candied snow pears! I bit into one and was delighted by the wonderful taste. The pear itself was perfectly tender, infused with the sweet syrup flavors of honey and rock sugar. The dusting of crunchy sugar on the outside added an amazing textural contrast.I smiled hugely as the juices dribbled down my chin."These are so good!" I exclaimed. Mom smiled back and nodded in agreement.Making candied snow pears for the first time was such a fun experience. I felt so proud that I got to help with all the steps instead of just watching. It made me appreciate the patience and effort required. While it was a little tricky at times, having Mom teach me made it all feel easy.I can't wait until we make candied snow pears again. Next time, I'm sure I'll be even better at peeling, coring, and skeweringafter getting practice today. Mom said we can try making other candied fruits too! I'm going to write down everything I learned so I can make them all by myself when I'm older. Yum, I can't get enough of those delicious, sweet treats!。
