The Qijiang Seaside Park has walking paths along the coast and beaches for swimming. The Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort is a relaxing getaway with natural mineral water pools.Zhongshan is well-known across China as the "Hometown of Basketball" as it has produced many star players over the years. Every year the city hosts the Jackie Chan International Basketball Camp for top youth talent. We also have several professional basketball teams based here. Sports and athletics are very popular among Zhongshan residents of all ages.Another source of pride for Zhongshan is our city's role as the birthplace of many influential overseas Chinese whoachieved great success. People like Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Bruce Lee, Tse Qiu Queen all have roots tracing back to Zhongshan before their families immigrated abroad. The Zhongshan Library has special exhibits celebrating the global impact of these famous community members.Zhongshan today is a highly livable city that blends its rich cultural heritage with modern development and amenities. Our transportation networks are excellent, with highways, rail lines, and port facilities connecting Zhongshan to the rest of the Pearl River Delta and China. The city has been rapidly growing with new residential areas, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, parks and recreational spaces.At the same time, Zhongshan is very environmentally conscious and works hard to balance urbanization witheco-friendly policies and preservation of nature. My name is Zhang Ming and I'm a middle school student from the city of Zhongshan in GuangdongProvince, China. I love my hometown and I'm excited to tell you all about it.Zhongshan is a prefecture-level city located in the southern part of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province. It borders the cities of Zhuhai to the southwest and Jiangmen to the northeast. Zhongshan is quite close to some major cities – it's only about 90 km from Guangzhou and just across the river from Macau and Hong Kong.The city has a long and interesting history stretching back over 1,700 years to the Eastern Han Dynasty in the 3rd century AD. Over the centuries, Zhongshan developed as an important port and trading center due to its location along the Pearl River. It was even one of the starting points of the famous Maritime Silk Road during medieval times.In the late 19th century, a native of Zhongshan named Sun Yat-sen led the Xinhai Revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty and established the Republic of China in 1912. Sun is regarded as the founding father of modern China and has many memorials and museums dedicated to him in Zhongshan. This makes my hometown an important place in modern Chinese history.These days, Zhongshan is a modern and prosperous city with a population of over 3 million people. It has a diverse economy based on manufacturing, trade, tourism and services. The warm subtropical climate and beautiful natural scenery also attract many visitors.One of Zhongshan's most famous attractions is the Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort. This huge spa and recreation area covers over 40 square kilometers and has hundreds of hot spring pools fed by natural mineral springs. The hot springs are said to have healing and rejuvenation properties. There are also many hotels, restaurants, gardens and other facilities in the resort area.Another popular place is Nanluan Grape Wine Town, which is a large winery and tourism complex centered aroundwine-making and grapevine cultivation. You can tour the vineyards and wineries, taste wines, stay in wine chateau hotels, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are also amusement parks and other activities.One of my personal favorite places is Xihai Botanical Garden, which has an enormous variety of exotic and local plant species from around the world. Some of the highlights include a huge greenhouse filled with tropical plants, a Chinese herbal medicine garden, stunning flower exhibits and landscaped gardens. It's awonderfully peaceful and beautiful place to spend the day surrounded by nature.When it comes to food, Zhongshan is famous for its fresh and delicious seafood due to its coastal location. Some local specialties include steamed fish, salt-baked shrimp, and oyster omelets. Lychee fruits are another celebrated local product thanks to the region's fertile soil and subtropical climate that is perfect for growing lychees.I love the laidback atmosphere and friendly, welcoming people of Zhongshan. The city combines the modern amenities of a major urban center with charming historical areas and beautiful natural scenery.
