As a high school student with a keen interest in English language proficiency, I have always been fascinated by the challenges and intricacies of advanced English exams like the Test for English Majors8 TEM8. The year 2019 was particularly noteworthy for the exam, as it presented a unique set of questions that tested the candidates linguistic skills and analytical abilities. In this essay, I will delve into the 2019 TEM8 English composition section, providing an analysis of the prompt, the common approaches taken by examinees, and the strategies that could have led to a higher score. The 2019 TEM8 composition prompt was thoughtprovoking and required examinees to consider the impact of technology on interpersonal relationships. It was a topic that resonated with the younger generation, who are often at the forefront of technological advancements and their social implications. The prompt asked candidates to discuss whether technology has brought people closer or pushed them apart, a question that has been the subject of much debate in recent years. Many examinees approached the essay by outlining the benefits and drawbacks of technology in social interactions. They highlighted how social media platforms, for instance, have made it easier for people to stay connected with friends and family across the globe. However, they also pointed out the potential for technology to create a sense of isolation, as facetoface interactions are sometimes replaced by digital communication. To craft a compelling argument, examinees needed to provide concrete examples and evidence to support their claims. For instance, they couldhave cited studies that show a correlation between excessive social media use and feelings of loneliness or depression. Conversely, they could have also mentioned how technology has enabled people to maintain relationships despite geographical barriers, such as through video calls and online communities. One effective strategy for tackling the composition was to adopt a balanced view, acknowledging both the positive and negative aspects of technology in social relationships. This approach not only demonstrated a nuanced understanding of the topic but also allowed for a more comprehensive analysis. By presenting both sides of the argument, examinees could then conclude with a personal stance, whether they believed technology has been more of a boon or a bane to human connections.Another important aspect of the composition was the use of a formal and academic tone. The language should have been clear, concise, and free of colloquialisms or slang. A wellstructured essay with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion would have also been crucial in conveying the argument effectively. In terms of vocabulary, examinees needed to demonstrate a wide range of expressions to discuss the topic. Using advanced and less common words can add depth and sophistication to the essay. For example, instead of simply saying technology, one could use terms like digital innovation or information technology to convey a more precise meaning. Finally, grammar and punctuation were also key components of a highscoring essay. Errors in these areas can detract from the overall quality of the writing and may lead to a lower score. Therefore, it was essential for examinees to proofread their work and ensure that their sentences were grammatically correct and wellpunctuated. In conclusion, the 2019 TEM8 English composition prompt was a challenging yet engaging topic that required examinees to think critically about the role of technology in shaping our social lives. By providing a balanced argument, using a formal tone, employing a rich vocabulary, and ensuring grammatical accuracy, candidates could have crafted a compelling and wellstructured essay that would stand out to the examiners.。

In some countries, the difference in age between parents and their children is generally greater than it was in the past. Do you think the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages?(2019/9/28)

1.引出话题,阐明观点;

The world of work is changing rapidly and people cannot depend on the same job or same conditions of work for life. Discuss the possible causes for this rapid change and give your suggestions on how people should prepare for work in the future?

There is much discussion nowadays as to whether or not the working conditions today are the same as before and people rely on taking one job for life. Diverse contributing factors can be identified. In the following, I would like to show my point of view. Most important of all, with the development of science and technology, the structure of work force has changed seriously. For example, people no longer need to do some heavy work by themselves. Instead, they can use machines. Thus, they could transfer to other positions. On the second thought, competition in any fields has become more and more intense, so it is hard for one to keep his or her position without learning anything new and useful. Therefore, in order to fit the new situation, people shouldn’t be satisfied with their present conditions. They should absorb many things that they may have no idea before. Gratifyingly, more and more people are now trying to improve themselves by having courses after work and even sacrifice their rest time in purpose of gaining a good job.As a proverb goes, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” It is inevitable that the world of work is changing rapidly. Nevertheless, if we determine to improve and perfect ourselves volitionally, I’m sure there is a way in front of us. Nowadays it is common that people change their jobs after several years' service to the same company. The reasons are multiple and generally I believe it is a positive trend. It is easy to understand why so many people choose new jobs at certain phase of their career life. First, in this information era when everything is changing rapidly, people are obliged to adjust to the new situations they are in and hence change is inevitable. For example, due to the advanced development of Internet and popularity of online media many journalists who used to work for traditional news agencies divert their attention to digital media or other trade related to Internet and therefore radically changed their way of working. Second, young people who settle their first job without too much thinking will later gradually find their real interest. Once they discover where their passion lies in, they will focus on the new career without hesitation. Often they will find themselves in a better condition, for instance, gaining a more attractive paycheck and working in a more comfortable and productive environment, if they get a clear perspective of themselves earlier.Although it is unavoidable for people to quit their previously unchallenging jobs in order to get a more suitable one at certain moments of their life, too many job hopping experiences are not encouraged by employers. To begin with, one who changes his job frequently is often deemed as unreliable in recruiters' eyes. On the contrary, those who stick to their trade for years often accumulate rich work experience and win more opportunities for promotion. Besides, sometimes changing one's job means moving to a new place, which can be costly. Making new friends and networking may also be challenging and time-consuming.In conclusion, as people are groping their way to position themselves correctly during their lifetime, it is understandable that they change their careers through trial and error. However, one must be very prudent before they make a major life decision like switching to a new career and too frequent changes should be avoided.。

Task:Some people think getting old is entirely bad, but other people do think it’s much better for old people tolive now than in the past. Please show your idea with explanation, examples and your knowledge.Sample answer:It has become a common phenomenon for people in a number of countries to enjoy an increasing life expectancy. While some people believe it is horrible just to imagine gettingold , I think the situation has completely changed comparingto decades ago and now elderly people can lead a happy life.In some cases, the seniors do experience empty nest syndrome because their children are away from home. However, things are different nowadays. There are numerous residential homes with trained carers in a country and they have become a perfect place for the elderly to stay after retirement, where the elderly will not feel lonely and bored with the companyof their peers.Another concern for numerous senior citizens is thehealth problem. In the past, without advanced medical science, the seniors tend to suffer from various kinds of diseases, which decrease their quality of life at great extent. By contrast, the medical science is developing at an amazing speed and this trend can at least delay the onset of some chronic conditions and with healthy body, the elderly canenjoy happier lives.Apart from the two factors discussed above, instead of feeling useless or frustrated, elderly people can work beyond the retirement age or devote themselves to somewhere else to enrich their life. For example, a friend of my grandfather work as a part time doctor in his local community. In this way, not only does he make best use of his time, but also help a number of neighbours. To sum up, I hold the viewpoint that with the development of society and care from family members, elderly people can enjoy a moreisfying and meanfuling life.。

’ 2018-07-19: Task 2Something about education of the young people isthe main educational priority of countries. But some believe that educating the adults who cannot read and write is needed by the society and we should spend more for it. To what extent do you agree or disagree?范文 1:Every individual has the right to education. Through education, a person achievesnot only in academic but also he/she learns important values in life. It is said that government should invest more money for the education of adults, but it is disagreeablewith that. Instead of this education of youngsters is more important than older ones. This essay exemplifies the need of education among individuals.Perhaps, the future is in the hands of youth, so giving proper education to the young ones is beneficial to the nation. Also modern technology has been harnessed by young people. Therefore it is easy for them for learning. To consider an example, new generation people are techsavy, they have various methods to gather information for their studies. So providing education to young people is effective. In addition youngsters are more productive than adults.Whilst considering the futuristic vision of a nation, young people s education plays a vital role. Youngsters are more intelligent and innovative than old people. So educating them is an easy task. Moreover, they have good memory and ability to grasp knowledge in faster way. All these prove that young people can make sea changes to their nation. That is educating them is necessary for the development of nation.Nevertheless, education of adults is also a requirement. Otherwise they may be exploited by others. To ameliorate these they should have basic knowledge in their first language. Sometimes they left their school because of certain reasons and they get time to continue their studies after long time. In these cases, the government should arrange facilities to study. To recapitulate, no one has the right to deny the fruit of learning. Even if it is so, the education of young people should be necessary, because they can uplift their nation in a prosperous way.范文 2:Nowadays, most people in some parts of the world recognises the importance ofeducational activities for young citizens. However, some individuals suggest that it would be better if the government focus more financial resources on educating illiteracy adults. For this topic, I sharply agree with this opinion. In this essay, the evidence and information are given to clarify my point of views.Firstly, education gives people knowledge and skills. Teaching people without ability to write and read cannot only help them find jobs effectively but also aid thesociety to a grander scale.People without qualification might hardly find jobs outside the manual labor. This field of working requires strong physical capacities and high intensity working, while the earnings tend to be low.As a result, the employees probably retire in a short-term period, after getting exhausted and without any long-term insurance or benefits.Based on the Fact on Literacy,it costs USA government301billion dollars per year because of the illiteracy.Beside that,if the rate of literacy peoplein Canada rises up by1%,19billion dollars would be added to the GDP.Apparently, the benefit of concentrating in training adult people contribute to the socioeconomic development in general, and to each citizen life in particular.Secondly, due to the correlation between the opportunities of finding good jobs and having stable lives, investment in educating illiteracy adults has a likelihood of making societies increase the level of happiness.People with guaranteed lives have the tendency of contributing positively to society by volunteering in many community services.Because of having a stability income, people can spare a part of money to the charities or buy foods and clothes for homeless people. It would be seem that everyone can donate actively toward the community, however the educated people have a better condition to support efficiently than others. To conclude, although education of young people is highly prioritised in many countries,I believe that the government should increase intensively the budget on educating illiteracy adult citizens.。

Everybody should stay at school until 18 years old. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

To compete in a global economy young people are expected to be highly educated. Governments in some countries therebefore have implemented or planned to enforce the laws about raising the school leaving age. This movement gives
rise to much controversy in the community. In this essay, we will discuss some arguments for and against studying until the age of eighteen.
The proposal would help tackle the problem of teenagers leaving education without qualifications or workplace skills. It is not strictly about increasing the 'school' leaving age, but about keeping teens in some kind of education or training until they are 18, most of them full-time, including apprenticeships and work-based training. Especially in this competitive society, obtaining certain qualifications or pursuing higher education is an inevitable trend. If you left school a decade ago with an age under 18 there were loads of jobs you could walk into without qualifications, however
that's not going to be the case now and in the future. This fast-changing world needs more professionals to support and develop, and normally students can only be qualified when they finished high school or technical school while reaching 18.
Some people, on the other hand, argue that there is no reason to force all 16 year olds to stay in school longer than they need to be there. By the age of sixteen, some students have a strong sense of who they are and what they want to become. Forcing these confident young people to "stay in school" until they turn 18 could actually be deterring them from achieving their career and life goals.
In my opinion of view, these so called confident young people under 18 are rare and it is still beneficial for them to receive training for their career preparation. The modern education system cannot afford to neglect those teenagers who currently leave school at 16 unprepared for the rigor and demands of life in the 21st Century.。
