但由于种种原因，长期以来小学英语教学尤其口语教学存在着不少困难与问题，需要切实解决。
小学生在培养英语口语能力方面存在的主要困难有：（1）缺乏必要语言环境。
（2）教师口语水平偏低。
目前不少英语教师的口语水平偏低，语音语调不准确，不能流利自如地用英语教学，这对培养学生听说能力是很不利的。
（3）班级学生人数过多。
（4）听英语的机会太少。
说英语的能力必须建立在大量的听英语的实践基础之上，而我国学生由于教师的口语水平较低，电化教材设备和资料较差等种种的原因，学生听英语的机会少，这直接影响了说的训练。

课堂上适当的竞赛,学生乐于参与,乐于争先,乐于学习,这样最大限度地将学生潜意识和显意识协调起来,鼓励学生去发现问题、思考问题、解决问题,积极理解运用知识,鼓励发挥,更鼓励创造,这既促进了师生间的互动,又充分调动了全体学生的学习兴趣。
