The Differences between the United States and China in Education “Better be unborn than untaught, for ignorance is the root of misfortune.” Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, said. As we all know, education is necessary to ourselves and even our society. But people in different countries receive various educations because of diverse culture. Let us see the differences in education between America and China and the influence of different education on people.First, there is much distinction between those two countries in ideals of education. American asserts equality. She claims that as many people as possible should have access to as much education as they want so that American can produce a society of literacy and local control. She places emphasis on the basic nature of knowledge and learning. Students in America should learn to discover and create new approaches to understand what is already known. American students prefer to practice by themselves instead of listening to the teachers sitting in the classroom. However, students in China are taught to learn not creative thinking but basic skills. Chinese require that students should acquire knowledge as what teachers teach and what teaching materials tell. Chinese always instill into kids’minds a thought that what teachers and teaching materials say are definitely right so that Chinese students lack the critical thought since they are children. Thus, it becomes that American students possess great abilities though get low grades and Chinese students have low abilities while get high scores, as is known to all.Second, the atmospheres in the classroom show the divergence of the two countries’education. Chinese teachers are good at drawing conclusions from a question for students to make them have no question. But American teachers are efficient at enlightening students on a question and enable every student to put forward more new questions. A student in Chinese class has to put up his hand to be allowed to stand up by teachers to answer questions while in American class students are encouraged to speak freely. If a Chinese student disagree what his teacher say, he will suffer some criticisms; nevertheless, an American students will be awarded praise if he does that. We can find out that the Chinese class pays more attention to discipline and the United States focuses on human rights.Three, the ways to further education are entirely different in China and America. There is no annual college entrance examination. Applicants are chosen on the basis of four aspects: high school records, high school teachers’recommendations, the impression they make during interviews at the university, scores on Scholastic Aptitude Test. In an American soap opera called Gossip Girl, an actor called Dan, who wants to study in Yale and passed the SAT, struggles to get three recommendations from his high school teachers or famous writers. But every Chinese student knows that if they want to go to university they must pass the college entrance examination and if they hope to go to key colleges, they have to get higher scores. So the purpose of American education system is to make students find out their shortcomings and straighten them up and Chinese educational system is elimination.Four, students’ extra-curricular life in United States is more colorful than Chinese students’. There are many students’organizations----clubs and activities in the American school helping students become successful when pursuing hobbies. Inaddition, they often do some part-time jobs to make money, which may be for activities or other things. However, Chinese students don’t have so many activities and in their extra-curricular life they will spend most of time attending cram school or doing their homework. So, they are losing their hobbies gradually. In general, I think our government should make reformation on our educational system immediately. Not only should our grades be focused on, but also students’practical ability and creative thinking should be paid more attention. Thus, our country will be more thriving and prospering and we Chinese will be more happiness!。

英国人的“岛性”极强,总是以老大自居,历史上航海业曾一度领先世界,英语中存在着许多习语,习语的产生与人们的劳动和生活密切相关,比如,spend money like water(挥金如土),to rest on one’s oars (暂时歇一歇),to keep one’s head above water(奋力图存)。
这种现象突出地反映在习语中,如sail before the wind(顺风行驶),in the same boat(同舟共济),give up the ship(放弃),on the rocks(触礁),以及all at sea(全在海里)。
船在海上失去控制,船上的人只知“在海上(all at sea)”,却不知身在何方,现在这一习语表示“不知所措”的意见,如“He is all at sea as to what to do next”。
Do in Rome as the Romans do; Rome was not built in a day; All roads lead to Rome,由此可见罗马帝国昔日的辉煌。

Introduction to British literature--- Introduction to the book of Kipling2014-12-23When I was a child, I have read an interesting book named “the jungle book”, which is written by Joseph rudyard K ipling. It’s so at-tractive and vivid that I have read it for many times. Looking back now, the book is so simply. However, it told me so mang meaningful things.Joseph Rudyard Kipling , a talented writter who have created many-famous articles. Also, he is the first Englishman who awarded the nobel prize. The nobel prize reviewers praised him as "the world writer's work with closely observed, unique imagination, bold, narrative for excel-lence".Turning the page, you just like come into a charming tropical jun-gle, roaming among them, witnessing the strange and exciting life in the jungle. The description is vivid and relaxing. Everyone will be fo und of the book the minute he opens it. I’m sure that you will enjoy yourself. The story tells that a woodcutter's son was chased by tigers. Lucki-ly, he was saved by a kind wolf , and then he became a member of the wolves. He experienced a lot in his growth. He escaped from death in a great catastrophe .When in the face of the treasure , he chose to give up. Also, he had much brave behaviour. Finally he became the son of the jungle. His life is a legend.Although this book doesn’t have serious conception, it bring readers good feel. Once you indulge in the book, you will feel relaxed and enjoyable.I admire the hero 's courage and wisdom. He used the buffalo herds killed the evil tiger; Luring red hair dog into the "death zone", where the wild bees make th em casualties seriously. This is all expression of human wisdom. It’s fascinating and interesting. This is the biggest highlight of the book .For a long time, this book is read as a fairy. It has left countless people a wonderful childhood memory. But behind the simple and re-laxing novel story, it also has profound implication. It will influence readers deeply. The original jungle is mysterious, with countless animals living in which. After the arrival of the hero, he got protection and education. He became familiar with the jungle laws quickly; He played with his wolf brothers happily, and his wolf brothers always provide help for him when he needed. The jungle just like a big family, whichalways protect his growth, let him become a brave and intelligent boy. Reading these words, readers will feel warm and happy from their deep heart. While, the village is another story. Villagers always envy rich men,. What’s worse, they hate and guard against each other. They are ignorant and unscrupulous. So,that make s the hero cann’t adapt to human society. Reading these words, reader will feel sad, someone may reflect on their own. It’s meaningful for everyone. The civilized village and the original jungle form such a huge contrast. Animals are united, while people struggle against each other. It’s so frustrating. And in some aspects, it’s suitable for our real life. Not only children, but also adults will learn much from it.On the one hand, through the story we know that unity is important, it makes our family warmer, makes people care each other. From my perspective, at no time should we underestimate the power of unity. What’s more, we should foster the consciousness of unity and always bear in mind that it is unity, instead of individual’s capability, that the ac hievement of any course depends on. “United we stand, divided we fall.” The U.S. president John Adams also once said. Just like the story, If people don’t be united, they will lose their biggest dependence. Even animals are more clever than them.On the other hand, we have learned that rules are important in our life. A word without rules will be chaos and dangerous. Only rules will bring peace and safety to our society. Just like the animals, they lost their leader, so they lost their goals, they became confusion and encountered failures. A society will be dangerous without rules. The situation is suitable for human society as well. Just like the saying goes:"Nothing can be accomplished without norms or standards”.Also,we learn fron the book that wisdom is so important. What is wisdom? We hear the word a lot these years—the need for wisdom, the wisdom traditions, wisdom schools. We each would like to have more wisdom. And for others to have it as well. Too much human hurt and suffering comes from lack of wisdom. With wisdom,we can mamage the things we cann’t do before. From the book, we have learned a lot. We should value our friendship,it’sour most precious treasure. Also,we should respect rules, it make the life better. And we know that wisdom play an important role in our life.LifeJohn Keats was born in London in 1795. The first son of a stable-keeper, he had a sister and three brothers. When John was eight years old, his father was killed in an accident. In the same year his mother married again, but little later separated from her husband and took her family to live with his grandmother.John attended a good school where he became well acquainted[əˈkwentɪd with ancient and contemporary literature[ˈlɪtərəˌtʃʊr. He also wrote letters which is called"the most notable and the most important ever written by any English poet."He died there in 1821, at the age of twenty-five.
