1.Chinese President Xi Jinping met with visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday morning, pledging China's commitment to a new model of China-US relationship.中国国家主席习近平周五上午会见了来访的美国国务卿约翰•克里，并表示中方坚定致力于同美方共同构建中美新型大国关系。

美国国务卿约翰•克里于14日上午抵达北京，开始为期2天的访华行程。

据外交部发言人华春莹10日发布的消息，克里此行是应外交部长王毅邀请。

访华期间，双方将就中美关系及其他共同关心的问题交换意见。

新型大国关系（new model of major power relationship）是以相互尊重（mutual respect）、互利共赢（mutual benefit and win-win）的合作伙伴关系为核心特征的大国关系，是崛起国（developing country）和既成大国（developed country）之间处理冲突和矛盾的新方式。

2012年5月3日，在北京召开的中美战略与经济对话(US–China Strategic and Economic Dialogue)期间，双方将构建中美“新型大国关系”作为主题，这一概念被高调推出。

习近平表示，中方坚定致力于同美方共同构建中美新型大国关系（a new model of China-US relationship），愿同美方加强对话（enhance dialogue），增进互信（boost mutual trust），深化合作（boost cooperation），妥处分歧（properly handle differences），推动两国关系持续健康稳定向前发展（forge ahead with the lasting and healthy development of the ties）。

2.China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has demanded that the police continue to crack down on prostitution and pornography amid the government's campaign to promote core socialist values.公安部要求警方继续“扫黄”，以配合政府宣传社会主义核心价值观的活动。

记者16日从公安部获悉，公安部要求各级公安机关严查涉黄、涉赌、涉毒等违法犯罪活动，坚决打击卖淫嫖娼活动的组织者、经营者及幕后“保护伞”。

此举也是为了响应当前中央积极培育社会主义核心价值观的号召。

“扫黄”就是crack down on prostitution and pornography，即打击色情业。

公安部表示要severely punish those found guilty of misconduct and malpractice, as well as those who break laws while in charge of enforcement（从严惩处失职渎职者和执法犯法者）。

此外，公安部还要求打击"protective umbrella" of the industry（色情业保护伞）。

当前中央领导要求积极培育core socialist values（社会主义核心价值观），社会主义核心价值观包括national goals of prosperity, democracy, civility and harmony（富强、民主、文明、和谐的国家目标）; social goals of freedom, equality, justice and the rule of law（自由、平等、公正、法治的社会目标）; and individual values of patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship（爱国、敬业、诚信、友善的个人价值观）。

3.Plans have been drawn up to transform a former "comfort station" in Nanjing into a historical monument to remind people of the Japanese army's use of women as sex slaves during World War II.南京计划将一处“慰安所”旧址改建为历史陈列馆，以提醒人们不要忘记日军在二战期间把女性作为性奴的暴行。

Comfort station就是日军在二战期间所建的“慰安所”，内置"comfort women"（“慰安妇”），为日军提供性服务。

二战期间日军强迫各国妇女充当日军的sex slaves （性奴）。

据称南京利济巷“慰安所”是当时亚洲最大的military brothel（军队妓院）。

由于修复“慰安所”原貌耗资巨大，而南京市中心地价昂贵，如果这块地用于commercial real estate（商业地产），将使一部分人在经济上受益。

然而夷平“慰安所”旧址的提议因遭到公众反对而放弃，因而这一旧址搁置了多年，曾一度被附近社区用作waste transfer station（垃圾中转站）。

光是在南京，就有40余所这样的“慰安所”旧址，大部分都已经被拆毁或忘，有一处关押了中国“慰安妇”的“慰安所”在夷平后建成了food market（菜市场）。

4.Two national memorial days are to be marked, according to draft resolutions being reviewed by the top legislature. One of the days, on Sept 3, will mark victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45), while on Dec 13, victims of the Nanjing Massacre will be commemorated.全国人大审议的草案拟将9月3日设为抗日战争胜利纪念日，12月13日为南京大屠杀死难者公祭日。

十二届全国人大常委会第七次会议25日下午审议全国人大常委会关于确定中国人民抗日战争胜利纪念日的决定草案和全国人大常委会关于设立南京大屠杀死难者国家公祭日的决定草案。

“纪念日”多用memorial day表示，这里提到的“国家公祭日”可用national memorial day表示。

制定中国人民抗日战争胜利纪念日是为了更好地缅怀在中国人民抗日战争（War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression）中英勇献身的英烈和所有为中国人民抗日战争作出贡献的人们，铭记中国人民反抗日本帝国主义侵略的艰苦卓绝的斗争，表明中国人民坚决维护国家主权、领土完整和世界和平的坚定立场（Chinese people's stance of safeguarding national sovereignty and the territorial integrity as well as world peace）。

制定南京大屠杀死难者国家公祭日是为了悼念南京大屠杀死难者和所有在日本帝国主义侵华战争期间惨遭日本侵略者杀戮的死难同胞（to mourn the victims of the massacre and all those killed during the Japanese aggression against China），揭露日本侵略者的战争罪行（exposing the war crimes of Japanese invaders），牢记侵略战争给中国人民和世界人民造成的深重灾难，表明中国人民反对侵略战争、捍卫人类尊严、维护世界和平的坚定立场（Chinese people's stance of combating aggression and safeguarding human dignity and world peace）。

世界上其他国家设立的纪念日有：International Holocaust Remembrance Day（国际大屠杀纪念日，1月27日，全球，奥斯威辛集中营被解放纪念日，缅怀二战中的大屠杀遇难者），National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day（珍珠港纪念日，12月7日，美国，珍珠港事件发生日），Victory Day（胜利日，5月9日，俄罗斯，二战卫国战争胜利），Remembrance Day（阵亡将士纪念日，11月11日，英国，一战停战日，缅怀在战争中死去的人）。

5.President Xi Jinping pledged on Thursday to strengthen China's Internet security and build the nation into a strong cyberpower.习近平主席周四强调，要加强我国的网络安全，努力把我国建设成为网络强国。

2月27日下午习近平主持召开中央网络安全和信息化领导小组第一次会议并发表重要讲话。

他强调，网络安全和信息化是事关国家安全和国家发展、事关广大人民群众工作生活的重大战略问题，要从国际国内大势出发，总体布局，统筹各方，创新发展，努力把我国建设成为网络强国。

Cyberpower（网络强国）由cyber 和power两词合成，cyber作为前缀，代表与网络或电脑相关的事物，比如cyber space（网络空间），cyber-pal（网友），cyber attack（网络攻击）等；power作为名词除了指“权力”以外，也可以指在世界范围内颇有影响的“强国”，比如economic power（经济强国），superpower（超级强国）等。

中央网络安全和信息化领导小组（central Internet security and informatization leading group）要发挥集中统一领导作用，统筹协调各个领域的网络安全和信息化重大问题（to lead and coordinate Internet security and informatization work among different sectors），制定实施国家网络安全和信息化发展战略、宏观规划和重大政策，不断增强安全保障能力（to draft national strategies, development plans and major policies in this field）。
