It's way bigger in person than it looks in pictures and movies. We also went to see Buckingham Palace, where the Queen lives. Unfortunately she wasn't there to greet us. I was going to tell her she has a lovely palace!The next day we took a train to a place called Bath. No, we didn't go there to take a bath, silly! It's just the name of the city. In Bath, we toured around these really old roman baths that were built like 2,000 years ago! Can you believe people were hanging out in hot tubs way back then? The baths were pretty cool and all, but I don't think I'd want to actually bathe in them. Seemed a little gross if you ask me.After Bath, we went north to Lake District National Park. This was definitely my favorite part of the whole trip! We went hiking through the mountains and saw some beautiful lakes and waterfalls. I even got to go swimming in one of the lakes. The water was frigid but it was awesome! We camped out for a couple nights too. My dad tried to start a campfire but wasn'thaving much luck. I showed him how it's done though - you just gotta rub two sticks together really fast! We also learned about this legendary wizard called Merlin who had a secret cave right underneath the castle! No way, right? That's something straight out of a fantasy movie. Maybe if I'm lucky, Merlin will let me be his apprentice someday.The last stop of our trip was Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. I've heard of Shakespeare before in school, but I didn't know too much about him going into this trip. His stories and poetry are actually pretty interesting once you get past all the crazy old English. It's super duper important if we want to keep our home clean and healthy for a long, long time!One of the first things we learned is that we humans make wayyyy too much trash and waste. Every day, people throw away tons and tons of plastic, paper, food scraps, and all kinds of other yucky stuff. A lot of that trash doesn't decompose or break down naturally. Instead, it just piles up in big, smelly landfills. Gross!But that's not the worst part. The worst part is that a lot of our waste, especially plastics, ends up in the ocean. Marine animals like fish, whales, and sea turtles can mistake that plastic for food and eat it by accident. Or they can get tangled up in plastic bags and rings. That's so sad!We also learned that the way we get energy causes a lot of pollution too. Things like burning coal, oil, and gas release tons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the air. Those nasty gases trap heat from the sun and cause global warming. That's why the polar ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising! Entire islands could be underwater if we don't do something about it.So what can we do to go green and be more eco-friendly? Lots of things actually! One of the easiest is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. We can cut down on the amount of stuff we buy and throw away. For example, instead of using plastic water bottles, we can carry around a reusable bottle and refill it. Or we canbring reusable bags to the grocery store instead of using plastic ones.When we do have trash, we should try our best to recycle as much as possible - plastic, glass, metal, paper, you name it! My family has a big recycling bin that we fill up every week.We can also try to conserve energy and water at home. Turning off lights when you leave a room, taking shorter showers, and unplugging devices you aren't using are all great ways to save energy and cut down on waste. Of course, no trip to L.A. would be complete without feeling the warm sand between our toes at the beach. I've only seen the ocean in pictures, so swimming in the Pacific will be an incredible new experience.In addition to the big famous cities, I'm also excited about everything else we'll get to see and do on this trip. We'll drive through gorgeous natural landscapes like the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, and the Rocky Mountains. We may even get to go hiking, camping, or whitewater rafting for the first time. I've heard the food in America is quite different too, with massive portion sizes and lots of hamburgers, fries, and milkshakes. I'll have to be careful not to gain too much vacation weight!One aspect that makes me a bit nervous is the language barrier. Although I've studied English for many years, it will be challenging to use it constantly for over three weeks without anybreak. What if I can't understand something important or make a silly mistake? I'm sure there will be some confusing or even embarrassing situations at times. However, I see this as a great opportunity to fully immerse myself in English and take my skills to the next level. I had been looking forward to it for months, as my parents promised we would go on an amazing family trip. Little did I know just how amazing it would turn out to be!It all started in early July when we boarded a plane headed for the beautiful country of Thailand. The flight felt like it took forever, but I tried to pass the time by watching movies, reading books, and devouring all the free snacks I could get my hands on. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, we landed in the capital city of Bangkok.The very first thing that struck me as we stepped off the plane was the intense heat and humidity. Having grown up in a cooler climate, I wasn't used to temperatures quite that high. The next thing I noticed were the incredible smells - a mix of exotic spices, street foods, and other aromas I couldn't quite place. It was an assault on the senses in the best way possible.We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel, which gave me my first real glimpse of the city itself. The roads were crowdedand chaotic, with cars, motorcycles, tuk-tuks, and even elephants all vying for space. The buildings were a mishmash of traditional ornate temples and modern skyscrapers. Neon signs flickered everywhere you looked. It was totally overwhelming but I loved it.After settling in at our hotel, we headed out to explore Bangkok. We visited famous sites like the Grand Palace, with its brightly colored temples and the giant Emerald Buddha statue. We took a longboat tour through the klongs, or canals, which gave us a look at life on the waterways. We bargained for souvenirs at the massive Chatuchak Weekend Market. And of course, we ate more delicious Thai food than I could count - fresh seafood, flavorful curries, sticky mango rice, and my new favorite, pad thai.As exciting as Bangkok was though, I think my favorite part of the trip was when we ventured outside of the capital to some of Thailand's beautiful islands in the south. We took a short flight down to Phuket, then hopped on a ferry to the stunning Phi Phi Islands.When our boat first pulled up to Phi Phi Don, the largest of the islands, I was speechless. Sheer limestone cliffs rose straight out of the bright blue-green water, covered in thick junglefoliage. The sand was powdery white and the beachfront was lined with simple thatched-roof bungalows. It looked like something right out of a movie!We spent several days just relaxing on those gorgeous beaches, swimming and snorkeling in the crystal-clear water. We took a boat tour around the other smaller islands, getting anup-close look at dramatic rock formations and sea caves. We even spotted monitor lizards sunning themselves on the cliff sides.One afternoon, we went on a guided kayaking and hiking excursion through the jungles of Phi Phi Leh, the second largest island. Our guide taught us all about the unique plants and wildlife as we paddled along the coastline and trekked inland. At one point, we came to an incredible secret beach that could only be accessed by swimming through a tunnel in the rocks when the tide was low. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves.Sadly, our time in paradise had to come to an end eventually.I was so sad to leave the Phi Phi Islands behind, but I took thousands of photos and made enough amazing memories to last a lifetime. As we headed to the airport for our flight home, I thought about how incredibly lucky I was to have experienced such an epic adventure.This summer vacation was so much more than just a vacation though. It opened my eyes to a completely new part of the world, with different cultures, foods, languages, and ways of life. Suddenly my horizons felt limitless and I couldn't wait to plan my next big trip. Who knows what other incredible destinations are out there waiting to be explored?I learned so many valuable lessons along the way too - about respecting other customs, adapting to unfamiliar situations, and stepping outside my comfort zone. But most importantly, I realized how crucial it is to take advantage of every opportunity to travel, see new places, and immerse yourself in different cultures. The world is so much bigger than the bubble we live in, and I can't wait to experience more of it.So while going back to school and my normal routine was a bit of a drag after such an epic summer, I tried to keep that spirit of adventure alive. I vowed to work hard, save up my money, and start planning the next big trip. Because if this past vacation taught me anything, it's that making unforgettable memories is one of the most valuable things you can do with your life. And I plan on making many, many more wherever my travels take me next.。
