英语习语

英语学习材料This woman has been in my life for a long time. This so-called long time spans more than a decade. The first time I came to know something about her brilliance was when I bumped into a blockbuster film one summer. It was the Murder on the Nile. Years later I watched the whodunit movie several times on various occasions, but the first impact of that summer night remains strong. What a woman! What a mind! How could she manage to write some many mysteries? Her books testify to the fact that outstanding people do exist in this world. She is dubbed as the queen of deception and the greatest crime writer. I used to wonder a lot about this woman. Three or four years after watching the movie, I managed to read that novel in English and was deeply impressed. Though even now I still can not completely follow her descriptions and, before I reach the last page of a story, figure out a culprit of a murder case or the ins and outs of a mystery, more often than not, I simply follow her to the end of all stories, without bothering to make efforts to unravel mysteries. I have read some stories about her the author. And sometimes I tell myself that murders and mysteries are among the first impressions I have about that island country whose language I have learned to read and speak. If someone asks me what I know about the UK, I will certainly cite her as part of my first impression.Yet, in all these years when she was in my life, I had never connected her with poetry. It had been so all the time until last night.Over years I have painfully bought and gladly read many of Agatha Christie’s books. She is always a delight. Last night I was reading her book titled “The Mysterious Mr. Quin” when I ran into such a sentence: the face that made history. I did not finish the story because that sentence made me stop and marvel at the magic power of the author and the hidden part of her life unknown to me. This novelette is composed of twelve separate mysteries solved or witnessed by an old gentleman. The mysterious Mr. Quin appeared in each of these stories. He either helped point out details overlooked by the gentleman called Mr. Satterthwaite or helped offer insight into an intricate puzzle by asking smart questions. The story I was reading last night was The Face of Helen, the name of a Greek beauty who eloped with a prince and gave rise to the famous Trojan War. One evening, Mr. Satterthwaite looked down into the theater house from his box and spotted a beautiful girl. He was bewitched by the back of the girl. He yearned to see the face of that girl. So during a break, he and the mysterious Mr. Quinn went downstairs and created a chance to pass by the girl and her boyfriend. They saw the beauty. Then Agatha Christie commented briefly that it was a face that made history. This pithy and juicy comment made me excited. Though I had read some stories about pretty women in history, I had never read any writer who linked a face with history in such a poetic and enlightening way. Then my yellowish mind began to wander. I put down the book and enjoyed the quiet moment. Yes, some beauties did make history. Not just the written history of facts and events and dates, but also the history of men’s wild imagination. Stories and poems have come out continuously century in and century out about women of striking beauty. Movies that explore the past beauties’ stories always capture the imagination of audience. Men wish to see beauties that made history. Women wish to see how some beautiful women conquered men. Some bewitched writers even go so far as to invent or reinvent women whose beauty played a role in shaping thehistory. There are thousands of histories existing in thousands of minds. Every man has a gallery of images of beauties in history. Yes, men’s feelings and expectations and doings mi ght be mysteriously shaped by the hidden images in the heart. Shaped by these hidden images and with fantasies fanned by such images, men set out to make history. When my yellowish mind became less excited and flooded by swirling images and pulsating fantasies, I began to wonder about Agatha Christie, a woman who has been in my life for so many years. That pithy and juicy description has revealed a new aspect of the author to me. The master of crime fictions looks austere, her books appear grim, her stories make the readers shudder, and her insight of human nature is blood-congealing. Yet, she has something so poetic in her. This discovery has taught me a lesson: how much do I know about a woman? This woman has been in my life for such a long time and I have been blind to this part of her for all these years. How observant I am! Though not a woman with a face that made history, she certainly made history with her books. I am a lucky man because she has been in my life for all these years and because she makes me happy and because she will continue to be in my life.[体育英语]--足球常用英语集锦football, soccer, Association football 足球field, pitch 足球midfield 中场kick-off circle 中圈half-way line 中线football, eleven 足球队football player 足球运动员goalkeeper, goaltender, goalie 守门员back 后卫left 左后卫right back 右后卫centre half back 中卫half back 前卫left half back 左前卫right half back 右前卫forward 前锋centre forward, centre 中锋inside left forward, inside left 左内锋inside right forward, inside right 右内锋outside left forward, outside left 左边锋outside right forward, outside right 右边锋kick-off 开球bicycle kick, overhead kick 倒钩球chest-high ball 平胸球corner ball, corner 角球goal kick 球门球ground ball, grounder 地面球hand ball 手触球header 头球penalty kick 点球spot kick 罚点球free kick 罚任意球throw-in 掷界外球ball handling 控制球block tackle 正面抢截body check 身体阻挡bullt 球门前混战fair charge 合理冲撞chesting 胸部挡球close-marking defence 钉人防守close pass, short pass 短传consecutive passes 连续传球deceptive movement 假动作diving header 鱼跃顶球flying headar 跳起顶球dribbling 盘球finger-tip save (守门员)托救球clean catching (守门员)跳球抓好flank pass 边线传球high lobbing pass 高吊传球scissor pass 交叉传球volley pass 凌空传球triangular pass 三角传球rolling pass, ground pass 滚地传球slide tackle 铲球clearance kick 解除危险的球to shoot 射门grazing shot 贴地射门close-range shot 近射long drive 远射mishit 未射中offside 越位to pass the ball 传球to take a pass 接球spot pass 球传到位to trap 脚底停球to intercept 截球to break through, to beat 带球过人to break loose 摆脱to control the midfield 控制中场to disorganize the defence 破坏防守to fall back 退回to set a wall 筑人墙to set the pace 掌握进攻节奏to ward off an assault 击退一次攻势to break up an attack 破坏一次攻势ball playing skill 控救技术total football 全攻全守足球战术open football 拉开的足球战术off-side trap 越位战术wing play 边锋战术shoot-on-sight tactics 积极的抢射战术time wasting tactics 拖延战术four backs system 四后卫制four-three-three formation 4-3-3 阵式four-two-four formation 4-2-4 阵式Brazilian formation 巴西阵式,4-2-4 阵式red card 红牌(表示判罚出场)yellow card 黄牌(表示警告)[归类总结]:英语数量词大全数词主要分为基数词和序数词两类。
