在这个事件中有三处与“13”有关，那就难免不出事了。
“13”为禁忌的原因最后的晚餐：据《圣经》记载，耶稣的十二门徒之一犹大(Judah)为了三十个银元而出卖了他，最终导致他被钉死在十字架上，犹大出卖耶稣后便外出自缢身亡。
在耶稣被捕的前夕，恰好是犹太人的逾越节(Passover),耶稣特意邀请他的门徒共进晚餐。
席间，犹大正坐在第十三个座位上。
于是，世世代代的基督教徒们便将对犹太的恨发泄到与之巧合的数字“13”上。
还有一种说法来自希腊神话。
据说，有一次天国为了追悼阵亡将士的英灵而举行宴会，赴宴者共12个。
突然间凶神罗基闯了进来，他是第十三个人。
事后，在座的最高之神的儿子——光神鲍尔顿遭遇不幸，而众天神也在战事中处处失利。
据罗马史记载，巫师们都是12人聚会，等到第十三人到来，第十三人就是魔鬼。
在中古时代，绞人的刽子手的报酬是13个钱币，绞环有13个绳圈，绞台有13级。
英国人不喜欢“13”，人们常用"a baker's dozen"来代替“13”。
典故：早在15世纪，英格兰出售面包是论“打”（一打十二个），那时面包师的名声很坏，面包常不够分量。
