首先，通过多年的教学实践，我们清楚地认识到：信息技术应用教育教学具有多方面优势：一、渲染课堂气氛，激发学生的语言学习兴趣。
著名教育家苏霍姆林斯基说：“所有智力方面的工作都要依赖于兴趣。
”儿童的学习兴趣对鼓舞和巩固他们的学习动机，激发学习的积极性起决定作用，一旦激发了儿童的学习兴趣，就能唤起他们的探索精神、求知欲望。
儿童活泼好动，好奇心强，易于接受新事物。
幽雅动听的音乐，鲜艳夺目的色彩，五彩斑斓的图画，都能吸引学生的注意力，激发他们的言语兴趣。
计算机多媒体正好可以提供这种生动、形象、直观、感染力、渗透力极强的教育信息。
例如：课前三分钟播放英语动画片，其动人的画面及纯正的英语吸引学生，使之成为每个学生的“开心一刻”。

在学习英语的过程中，学生会碰到许多由于缺乏背景知识或由于中西文化的不同而产生的文化“休克”现象。
了解文化差异，增强世界意识，无论对培养学生的健全人格，还是提高学生的语言实践能力都是有好处的。
但异国文化全部靠老师来讲解显然是不够的。
在教会学生如何上网后，鼓励学生自己去获取自己需要的知识。
例如，他们通过网络可以了解到许多的有关圣诞节, 复活节, 愚人节, 感恩节等资料，这不仅帮助他们理解课文，而且某些方面还弥补了老师的短缺。
所以对学生上网仅仅进行封堵是不妥的，关键是如何引导他们把网络作为一种工具去运用，以形成良好的学习习惯和有效的学习策略。
二、提供丰富的课程资源，使学生在广阔的空间中学会自主学习。
在教了How to search the internet后，学生基本上能上网查寻信息，但不熟练。
就可布置学生预习Around the world in a day，让学生先上网了解想知道的信息，然后在课堂上互相交流。
学生既要了解地理、风景和人口等知识，又要准备用英语交流，所以花了很多精力。
在课堂上用powerpoint展示一幅幅图片时，学生可就他们感兴趣的问题互相提问、互相解答。
如有的学生想知道椰子树的英语名称，就问“What can we see in the World Park ?”有些学生还联系其他地理知识问：“Where is the Harbour Bridge?”“Where is the Opera House ?”“It’s in Sydney．”课堂气氛热烈，师生犹如亲自去了一次the World Park。
在教学中跟着学生的思路，学生说到哪种景点，就同步用电脑显示书上的相关文字来进行学习，有些是书上没有的。
这样教学就体现了一种灵活性，而不是死板地按照书上的描写来学习，课堂气氛也就显得异常活跃，充分体现了以学生为主体的学习方式，以问题为中心，以自主学习为基础，以网络多媒体为手段，突破了传统的时空局限。
在教学设计中要鼓励学生大胆地使用英语，并为学生提供自主学习和互相交流的机会以及充分表现、自我发展的空间；鼓励学生通过体验、实践、讨论、合作、探究等方式，发展听、说、读、写的综合语言技能；创造条件让学生能够探究他们自己感兴趣的问题并自主解决问题。
学生充分利用信息技术带来的广泛的课程资源可以弥补教材和课堂学习的不足。
学生还可以根据自己的兴趣或薄弱点，选择性地进行学习，如可以有的放矢地利用教学软件进行补缺补漏(通过对某一段反复播放)，或大胆。
利用网络环境锻炼口语。
如对www．cnradio．com中的阳光英语节目，学生可以根据自己的英语听、说、读、写方面能力的不同，各取所需。
这在提高学生听说能力和交际能力方面有着传统教学无法比拟的优越性。
再如通过访问www．Hongen．com中的轻松英语栏目和在线课堂，学生可以自学英语，参与“英语学习论坛”，还可欣赏“英语歌曲”与“英语电影”,相对于传统的学习方式而言，信息技术与英语教学整合可以增强学生的自主学习意识，最大限度地发挥他们的积极性，没有时间和空间的绝对限制。
三、培养学生之间的合作精神，使学生在协作氛围中学习英语。
英语学科涉及古今的社会、经济、科学、历史、文化等多方面的内容，而一个人的知识与能力是有限的。
