哈利法塔最初的原名叫迪拜塔，完 工之后才改以哈利法塔为正式名称。
在古阿拉伯世界中，哈利法为 “伊斯兰世界最高领袖”之意， 同时也是历史上阿拉伯帝国统治 者的称号。而迪拜所属的阿拉伯联
合酋长国总统，同时也是阿布扎比 的酋长，名字正好即是哈利法。之
所以临时改以“哈利法”为迪拜 塔重新命名，乃是感念哈利法的 金援救火，让迪拜得以在2009 年末惊爆倒债危机之后，惊险渡 过偿债难关。

2010年1月4日，迪拜阿利法塔 (迪拜塔)竣工迎客，828米的 高度让迪拜塔摘得“世界第一 高摩天大楼”的桂冠，让其设 计师阿德里安·史密斯名扬四 方。
事实上，除了迪拜塔，阿德里 安·史密斯在中国的代表作有 上海金茂大厦、南京紫峰大厦、 北京凯晨广场等多个经典项目。
