2013高考英语二轮总复习阅读理解精选(08)及答案ADoctors say anger can be an extremely harmful emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that angry feeling can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm, reasonable way. Others burst with anger, losing control of themselves. But still other people control their anger. They cannot or will not express it.For years many doctors thought that controlling one’s anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain lets out the same hormones that are produced during tense situations. They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, and narrow the blood vessels. In general, the person feels excited and ready to act.Doctors said that controlling these feelings only makes the feelings continue. And this can lead to many medical problems. Doctors thought a person could prevent these problems by letting the anger out by expressing it freely. But recently some doctors held a different view. They said that people who express anger too often and violently did become, in fact, more and not less angry. They said this, too, can cause medical problems. Some doctors say that both controlling and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger strongly may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down andyou are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”56. Which of the following is the more recent view about the expression of anger?A. It is dangerous both to express anger violently and to control one’s anger.B. One can avoid his medical problems by expressing his anger freely.C. One’s heart rate will not change if his anger is kept unexpressed.D. One is likely to suffer from high blood pressure in a bit of great anger.57. When you get angry, which of the following should you do for the sake of health?A. Controlling your anger and then studying its cause.B. Letting out your anger freely and then studying its cause.C. Studying its cause and waiting till it cools down.D. Waiting till it has cooled down and then studying its cause.58. Which of the following can best replace the title of the passage?A. Different Ways of Dealing with AngerB. The Danger of Anger and Its SolutionC. New Medical Discoveries about AngerD. An Argument between the New and Old Views about AngerBPlants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants. Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit. Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores(胚芽)。

They can find missing people and things like bombs and illegal drugs. Now a study suggests that the animal known as man’s best friend can even find bladder (膀胱)cancer.Cancer cells are thought to produce chemicals with unusual smell. Researchers think dogs have the ability to smell these smells, even in very small amounts, in urine (尿液). The sense of smell in dogs is thousands of times better than that in humans. The study follows reports of cases where, for example, a dog showed great interest in a growth on the leg of its owner. The man was later found to be skin cancer.Carolyn Willis led a team of researchers at Amersham Hospital in England. They trained different kinds of dogs for the experiment. The study involved urine collected from bladder cancer patients, from people with other diseases and from healthy people. Each dog was tested 8 times. In each test there were 7 samples for the dogs tosmell. The dog should signal the one from a bladder cancer patient by lying down next to it. Two cocker(一种猎犬) dogs were correct 56 percent of the time. But the scientists reported an average success rate of 41 percent. The British Medical Journal published the research. In all, 36 bladder cancer patients and 108 other people took part. During training, all the dogs reportedly even identified(认出)a cancer in a person who had tested healthy before the study. Doctors found a growth on the person’s right kidney(肾).Carolyn Willis says dogs could help scientists identify the combined chemicals produced by bladder cancer. 2013高考英语二轮总复习阅读理解精选(05)及答案ATwo brothers, Herbert and James, lived with their mother and a cat named Edgar. James was particularly devoted to the cat, and when he had to leave town for several days, he left Herbert careful instructions about the pet’s care. At the end of his first day away, James telephoned his brother, “How is Edgar?”“Edgar is dead.” Herbert answered. There was a pause. Then James said, “Herbert, you’re insensitive (漠然的). You know how close I was to Edgar. You should have broken the news to me slowly. When I asked about Edgar tonight, you should have said, ‘Edgar’s on the roof , but I have called the fire department to get him down.’ And tomorrow when I called, you could have said the firemen were having trouble getting Edgar down, but you were hopeful they would succeed. Then when I called the third time, you could have told me that the firemen have done their best, but unfortunately Edgar had fallen off the roof and was at the veterinarian’s (兽医站). It was based on the music called rhythm and blues that was performed by African American musicians.Early rock and roll singers developed their own kinds of music. Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan were the most popular rock and roll musicians in the early 1960’s. All were Amer ican. Then, in 1964, a new rock and roll group from England invaded America: the Beatles. Some people say the Beatles’ music shook America like an earthquake. The Beatles changed rock and roll forever. Their early songs were influenced by American rock and roll musicians, including Chuck Berry. But the Beatles looked different and sounded different from any musical group be-fore them. The Beatles released their first album in the United States in 1964, when all of the top five records in America were by the Beatles. In 1967, they released an album called “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” It was one of the first “concept” albums. That is, all the songs were linked by a common story or idea. The popularity of the Beatles led the way for more rock and roll bands from England to become popular in America. The Rolling Stones was the most important of these bands. The Rolling Stones is one of the few groups from the 1960’s that is still performing and recording today. In 1965, the group recorded one of its most famous songs, “Satisfaction”.The musical instrument most linked to rock and roll is the guitar. Experts say Jimi Hendrix was one of the most influential guitar players in rock and roll during the late 1960’s. His “Purple Haze” was liked by many people.By the 1970’s, rock and roll music became known as rock music. It expanded into many new forms. For example, there was country rock, hard rock, acid rock, and heavy metal rock. Punk rock, jazz rock, and glitter rock.In th e middle 1970’s, experts say rock music regained some of the energy of early rock and roll. Yes, we may only do a little bit, but together our small actions add up to a lot.1. Protect wildlife habitat.Perhaps the greatest threat that faces many species is the widespread destruction of habitat. Cutting down forests, farming, and development all result in loss of wildlife habitat. In areas where rare species live, habitat destruction can quickly force a species to extinction. By protecting habitat, entire communities of animals can be protected together naturally. Parks and reserves are now all too often the only habitats that are left untouched by habitat destruction.2. Reduce the threat of inv asive (入侵的) species. The spread of non-native species has greatly reduced native populations around the world. Invasive species compete with native species for resources (资源) and habitat. They can even prey on native species directly, forcing native species towards extinction.3. Place decals (贴花纸) on windows. It is reported that as many as one billion birds in the United States die each year because of collisions (碰撞) with windows. You can help reduce the number of collisions simply by placing decals on the windows in your home and office.4. Slow down when driving. Many native animals have to live in developed areas and this means they must move in human-living areas. One of the biggest obstacles (障碍) to them is that created by roads. Roads divide habitat and present a constant risk to any animal attempting to cross from one side to the other. So when you’re out and about, slow down and keep an eye out for wildlife.67. It received a cautious welcome from some in the arts world, who expressed concern that the tickets may not reach the most underprivileged. The plan comes as West End theatres are enjoying record audiences, thanks largely to musicals teaming up with television talent shows. Attend ances reached 13.6 million in 2007,up 10 percent on 2006, itself a record year. Total sales were up 18 percent on 2006 to almost £ 470 million. One theatre source criticized the Government’ s priorities(优先考虑的事) in funding free tickets when pensioners were struggling to buy food and fuel, saying: “I don’ t know why the Government’ s wasting money on this. The Young Vic, as The Times reported today, offers excellent performances at cheap prices.”There was praise for the Government’ s plan from Dominic Cooke of the Royal Court Theatre, who sa id: “I support any move to get young people into theatre, andespecially one that aims to do it all over England, not just in London.”Ninety-five publicly funded theatres could apply for funding under the two-year plan. In return, they will offer free tickets on at least one day each week to 18 to 26-year-olds,first-come, first-served. It is likely to be on Mondays, traditionally a quiet night for the theatre.Mr. Burnham said: “A young person attending the theatre can find it an exciting experience, and be inspired to explore a new world. But sometimes people miss out on it because they fear it’ s ‘not for th em’ . It’ s time to change this perception.”Jeremy Hunt, the Shadow Culture Secretary, said: “The real issue is not getting enthusiastic children into the theatre, but improving arts education so that more young people want to go in the first place. Famine (饥荒)was common during July as the previous year’s harvest supplies were almost totally used up。

Harvesting grains in August ensured the continuance of life and was recognized by many cultures as a time of thanksgiving。

In ancient Rome the grain goddess Ceres was honored on the first harvest called Ceresalia in her honor. Our modern word cereal comes from her name. Other goddesses celebrated at the first harvest were Demeter,Persephone,Venus and the Corn Mother。

Many native American tribes honor the Corn Grandmother during the Festival of Green Corn。

I decided it wasn’t worth it to me to use that much space for something that I would only use a couple of times in the year. I took them back and now I have more money in my checking account as well as some luxury towels I have wanted for a long time。

It can last anywhere from one to six years, but four years is typical for most. An apprentice spends the majority of the time in a workplace environment learning the practical skills of a career from a journeyman — someone who has done the job for many years. The rest of the apprentice's time is spent in a classroom environment learning the theoretical skills the career requires. Being an apprentice is a fulltime undertaking. One of the advantages of apprenticeship is that it does not cost apprentices anything. The companies that hire them pay for school. What's more, it offers apprentices an “earn while you learn” opportunity. They usually start out at half the pay of a journeyman, and the pay increases gradually as they move further along in the job and studies. Near the end of the apprenticeship, their wages are usually 90 percent of what a journeyman would receive. Apprenticeship also pays off for employers. It can offer employers a pool of welltrained workers to draw from.Despite the advantages, apprentices are usually required to work during the day and attend classes at night, which leaves little time for anything else. Sometimes, they might be laid off(下岗) if business for the employers is slow.Once they have completed the apprenticeship and become journeymen, they receive a nationally recognized and portable certification and their pay also increases again. Some journeymen continue employment with the companies they apprenticed with; others go onto different companiesor become selfemployedcontractors.(3)(13 min.)(衡阳市八中2012届高三第二次月考试卷)An altimeter(测高计)is an instrument used in an airplane to tell the pilot how high he is flying. The altimeter used in most airplanes is a kind of barometer(气压计), which, like barometers found in ordinary homes, is a measuring instrument for air pressure. The weight of the atmosphere presses downwards everywhere. At sea level this pressure is more than 14 pounds on every square inch of the surface. The higher you go into the air, the lower the air pressure is. An altimeter measures this air pressure to show the altitude of the airplane, or, how high it is above sea level. But the altimeter does not show how high the plane is above the ground. A plane might be flying at an altitude of 15, 000 feet, but it would be only a thousand feet or so above the ground if the land in that area happened to be 14, 000 feet above sea level. The pilot adjusts his altimeter to the actual sealevel pressure before setting out from the airport and then corrects it in flight according to new information given to him by radio. He flies high enough to be above any mountain he may pass on his course. The barometer altimeter is correct within about 300 feet.Another kind of altimeter, the radio altimeter, makes use of radio reflections. It calculates the height of the flying plane by sending out electrical signals to the surface below and measuring the time required for them to bounce back(反弹). It is correct within 15 feet over water, but is not reliable over land. Big planes usually have both kinds of altimeter.Title: 1. ____________(4)(12 min.)(师大附中2012届高三月考)What is elearning? Elearning is essentially the computer and networkenabled transfer of skills and knowledge, whose content is delivered via the Internet, audio or video tape, satellite TV, and CDROM.Elearning dates back to the early 1960s when Stanford University psychology professors Patrick Suppes experimented with using computers to teach math. As early as 1997 William D. Graziadei published an article which described developing an overall strategy for technologybased course development and management for an educational system. Today people are using many technologies in elearning, blogs and virtual classrooms included.Th ere are different types of elearning that are available. Some educational experts suggest that different types or forms of elearning can be considered as a continuum, from no elearning, i.e. no use of computers or the Internet for teaching and learning, through classroom aids, such as making classroom lecture Powerpoint slides available to students and through a course website, to laptop programs, where students are required to bring laptops to class and use them as part of a facetoface class, to mixed learning, where classroom time is reduced but not eliminated, with more time devoted to online learning, to fully online learning, which is a form of distance education.Due to the effectiveness of elearning methods, this type of learning methodology is rapidly becoming popular among schools. By 2006, 3.5 million students had participated in learning courses through the Internet at institutions of higher education in the United States. Alien and Seamen claim that almost a quarter of all students in postsecondary education were taking fully online courses in 2008, and a report by Ambient Insight Research suggests that in 2009, 44 per cent of postsecondary students in the USA were taking some or all of their courses online, and some professors predicted that this figure would have been doubled by 2014. Thus it can be seen that elearning is moving rapidly from the margins to being a predominant form of postsecondary education.Elearning has created a new paradise in education and it has greatly complement ed our traditional methods and thus it has brought students a lot of advantages. We expect much more growth in adoptions of it in schools. An 1. ____________to ElearningⅠ. Definition: Transfer of skills and knowledge 2. ____________ of computer and network, etc.Ⅱ. 2013高考英语二轮总复习阅读理解精选(10)及答案AI'm fat, I'm too skinny.I'd be happy if I were taller, shorter, had curly hair, straight hair, a smaller nose, bigger muscles, longer legs.Do any of these statements sound familiar? Are you used to putting yourself down? If so, you' re not alone. As a teen, you're going through many changes in your body. And as your body changes, so does your image of yourself.Lots of people have trouble adjusting, and this can affect their self-esteem (自尊).If you have a positive body image, you probably like and accept yourself the way you are. This healthy attitude allows you to explore other aspects of growing up, such as developing good friendships, growing more independent from your parents, and challenging yourself physically and mentally.Developing these parts of yourself can help boost (提升) yourself-esteem.A positive attitude and a healthy lifestyle (such as exercising and eating right)are a great combination for building good self-esteem.Some people think they need to change how they look or act to feel good about themselves. But actually all you need to do is change the way you see your body and how you think about yourself. The first thing to do is recognize that your body is your own, no matter what shape, size or color it comes in.If you are very worried about your weight or size, check with your doctor to verify (核实) that things are OK.But it is no one's business but your own what your body is like—ultimately, you have to be happy with yourself.Next, identify which aspects of your appearance you can realistically change and which you can't.Everyone has things about themselves that they can't change and need to accept—like their height, for example, or their shoe size. When you hear negative comments coming from within yourself, tell yourself to stop.Try building your self-esteem by giving yourself three good things every day.By focusing on the good things you do and the positive aspects of your life, you canchange how you feel about yourself. The most important thing is to get help if you feel like your body image and self-esteem are affecting your life.56.If we have a positive body image, we will_____.A.concentrate on our body image onlyB.not develop strong self-esteemC.like and accept ourselves as we areD.be less independent of our parents57.______ can NOT help to boost your self-esteem.A.Growing independent from your parentsB.Accepting your own body as it actually isC.Having a positive attitude and a healthy lifestyleD.Improving your body image as much as you can58.To improve our body image, we have to _____.A.think about ourselvesB.be happy with ourselvesC.change the shape, size or color of one's bodyD.check with our doctor to verify that our body is OK59.Which is probably the best title of the passage?A.Importance of Body ImageB.Effects on a Person's Self-esteemC.Tips for Improving Body ImageD.Self-esteem and Body ImageB60.Where can we most probably read this text?A.In a newspaper.B.In a magazine.C.In traveling guide.D.In a history textbook.61.The business hours of Cook's Cottage on Saturday in the summer are _____?A.11:00 am—2:00 pm B.5:00 pm—10:30 pmC.9:00 am—5:30 pm D.9:00 am—5:00 pm.62.The Anchorage Restaurant is ____.A.in Williamstown B.in the center of the cityC.in Anchorage D.in Port Philip Bay63.Where can you spend the night in a tour?A.Cook's Cottage. Students then go away and compose and edit the text remotely.During the next F2F session, the teacher express his opinion about their work.64.What is the main idea of this passage?A.Blended learning about which humans had anything more than the vaguest (模糊的)) of insights. It is impossible to know today just what our Stone Age ancestors knew about plants, but from what we can observe of pre-industrial societies that still exist, a detailed learning of plants and their properties must be extremely ancient. This is logical.Plants are the basis of the food pyramid for all living things even for other plants. They have always been enormously important to the welfare of people not only for food but also for clothing, tools, medicines, shelter, and a great many other purposes.Tribes living today in the jungle of the Amazon recognize hundreds of plants and know many properties of each.To them, botany has no name and is probablynot even recognized as a special branch of "knowledge" at all.Unfortunately, the more industrialized we become, the farther away we move from direct contact with plants, and the less distinct our knowledge grows.Yet everyone comes unconsciously on an amazing amount of botanical knowledge, and few people will fail to recognize a rose or an apple. When nor Neolithic ancestors, living in the Middle East about 10,000 years ago, discovered that certain grasses could be harvested and their seeds planted for richer fields the next season—the first, great step in a new association of plants and humans was taken.Grains were discovered and from them flowed the wonder of agriculture: cultivated crops. From then on, humans would increasingly take their living from the controlled production of a few plants, rather than getting a little here and a little there from many varieties that grew wild, and the accumulated knowledge of tens of thousands of years of experience with plants in the wild would begin to fade away.68.What does the writer mean when he says "This is logical" in the first paragraph?A.Human knowledge of plants is well organized and very detailed.B.It is not surprising that early humans had a detailed knowledge of plants.C.There is no clear way to determine the extent of our ancestor's knowledge of plant.D.It is reasonable to assume our ancestors behave much like people in pre-industrial societies.69.According to the passage, general knowledge of botany begun to fade away because ____.A.people no longer value plants as a useful resourceB.direct contact with a variety of plants has decreasedC.botany is not recognized as a special branch of scienceD.research is unable to keep up with the increasing number of plants70.We learn that the first great step toward the practice of agriculture is____.A.the changing diets of early humansB.the development of a system of names for plantsC.the invention of agricultural implements (工具) and machineryD.the discovery of certain grasses that could be harvested and replanted 71.Human would depend on the controlled production of a few plants for living with A.the knowledge of plants B.the discovery of certain grassesC.the development of machinery D.the appearance of agricultureEIt has been argued that an infant under three who is cared for outside the home may suffer because of the separation from his parents. The British psychoanalyst John Bowlby believes that separation from the parents during the sensitive "attachment" period from birth to three may scar (留下疤痕) a child's personality and incline to emotional problems in later life. Some people have drawn the conclusion from Bowlby's work that children should not be sent to day care before the age of three, and many people do believe this. But there are also arguments against such a strong conclusion.Firstly, anthropologists (人类学家) point out that the hidden love between children and parents found in modem societies does not usually exist in traditional societies. For example, we saw earlier that among the Ngonis the father and mother of a child did not raise their infant alone. But traditional societies are so different from modern societies that comparisons based on just one factor are hard to understand.Secondly, common sense tells us that day care would not be so widespread today if parents and caretakers found that children had problems with it.But Bowlby's analysis raises the possibility that early day care has delayed effects. The possibility that such care might lead to more mental illness or crime 15 or 20 years later can only be noticed by the use of statistics.Statistical studies of this kind have not yet been carried out, and even if they were, the results would be certain to be complicated and controversial.Thirdly, in the last decade, there have been a number of careful American studiesof children in day care, and they have reported that day care had a neutral of slightly positive effect on children's development. But tests that have had to be used to measure this development are not widely enough accepted to settle the issue.72.This passage is mainly talking about________.A.children's personalityB.advantages of infants' early careC.infants' educationD.negative effect of infant school73.The phrase "day care in the first paragraph probably means_____.A.nursing school B.baby-sitterC.boarding school D.primary school74.According to Bowlby, children under the age of three______.A.should not be sent to schoolB.should be cared for outside the homeC.will not suffer fro m parental separationD.don't mind who will look after them75.The argument against Bowlby's conclusion shows that___.A.children have problems with day careB.there is no negative effect on infants who go to school before threeC.there is a long-term effect on infants who go to school before threeD.children who are sent to school before three are sent to mental illness参考答案56-60 CBBDC 61-65 CABAD 66-70 CDBBD 71-75
