第四讲企业名称的翻译一．英语企业名称的汉译英语的企业名称，可分为两个部分，如:Hewlett-Packard CompanyA B在英语中，企业名称的第二部分较为简单，基本上是，Company (缩略词为Co.) 和Corporation (缩略词为Corp.)，一律可汉译为“公司”。
有时在这两个词之后加上“Ltd. (Limited的缩写，英国、欧洲大陆、日本)”或，“Inc. ( Incorporated的缩写, 美国)，均译为“（股份）有限公司”。
企业名称的第一部分较为复杂。
一般原则是，实意词意译，人名、地名及创造词音译，或谐音联想。
如：Hewlett-Packard Company ( 休利特-帕卡德公司————惠普公司)。
企业名称直接反映其生产或经营性质的，可直译，如：American Motors Corporation (美国汽车制造公司)。
企业名称并不说明什么的，如依音直译，往往效果不佳。
就像商品名称一样，译名最好能暗示该商品的特点，企业名称的译名，也应成为自身的广告。
要达到这个目的，一般有两种途径：一．在音译方面做文章，如：“Otis Co. U.S.A. 美国奥梯斯公司“二．采用添词的办法，这种办法更为普遍和简单易行。

有时用来连接两个人名，如：Smith & Johnson可译作史密斯-约翰逊。
