Quiet Virtue: The ConscientiousThe everyday signs of conscientiousness (认真尽责)—being punctual, careful in doing work, self-disciplined, and scrupulous (一丝不苟的) in attending to responsibilities—are typical characteristics of the model organizational citizen, the people who keep things running as they should. They follow the rules, help out, and are concerned about the people they work with. It’s the conscientious worker who helps newcomers or updates people who return after an absence, who gets to work on time and never abuses sick leaves, who always gets things done on deadline.Conscientiousness is a key to success in any field. In studies of job performance, outstanding effectiveness for almost all jobs, from semi-skilled labor to sales and management, depends on conscientiousness. It is particularly important for outstanding performance in jobs at the lower levels of an organization: the secretary whose message taking is perfect, the delivery truck driver who is always on time.Among sales representatives for a large American car manufacturer, those who were most conscientious had the largest volume of sales. Conscientiousness also offers a buffer (缓冲) against the threat of job loss in today’s constantly changing market, because employees with this quality are among the most valued. For the sales representatives, their level of conscientiousness mattered almost as much as their sales in determining who stayed on.There is an air around highly conscientious people that makes them seem even better than they actually are. Their reputation for dependability influences managers’ evaluations of their work, giving them higher evaluations than objective measures of their performance would predict. But conscientiousness in the absence of social skills can lead to problems. Since conscientious people demand so much of themselves, they can hold other people to their own standards, and so be overly judgmental when others don’t show the same high levels of model behavior. Factory workers in Great Britain and the United States who were extremely conscientious, for example, tended to criticize co-workers even about failures that seemed unimportant to those they criticized, which damaged their relationships. When conscientiousness takes the form of living up to expectations, it can discourage creativity. In creative professions like art or advertising, openness to wild ideas and spontaneity (自发性) are scarce and in demand. Success in such occupations calls for a balance, however; without enough conscientiousness to follow through, people become mere dreamers, with nothing to show for their imaginativeness.

Happiness Advantage” EffectIn July 2010 Burt’s Bees, a personal-care products company, was going through enormous change as it began a global expansion into 19 new countries. In this kind of high-pressure situation, many leaders bother their assistants with frequent meetings or flood their in-boxes with urgent demands. In doing so, managers lift everyone’s anxiety level, which activates the part of the brain that processes threats and steals resources from the prefrontal cortex(大脑皮层), which is responsible for effective problem solving.Burt’s Bees’s then-CEO, John Wolfgang, took a different approach. Each day, he’d send out an e-mail praising a team member for work related to global marketing. He’d interrupt his own presentations to remind his mana gers to talk with their teams about the company’s values. He asked me to further a three-hour session with employees on happiness in the course of the expansion effort. As one member of the senior team told me a year later, Wolfgang’s emphasis on developing positive leadership kept his managers actively involved and loyal as they successfully transformed the company into a global one. That outcome shouldn't surprise us. Research shows that when people work with a positive mind-set(思维模式), performance on nearly every level--- productivity, creativity, involvement---improves. Yet happiness is perhaps the most misunderstood driver of performance. For one, most people believe that success comes before happiness. “Once I get a promotion, I’ll be happy,” they think. Or, “Once I hit sales targe, I’ll feel great.” But because success is a moving target—as soon as you hit your target, you raise it again ----- the happiness that results from success does not last long.In fact, it works the other way around: People who have a positive mind-set perform better in the face of challenge. I call this the “happiness advantage” –every business outcome shows improvement when the brain is positive. I've observed this effect in my role as a researcher and lecturer in 48 countries on the connection between employee happiness and success. And I’m not alone: In an analysis of 225 academic studies, researchers found strong evidence of cause-and-effect relationship between life satisfaction and successful business outcomes.Another common misunderstanding is that our genetics, our environment, or a combination of the two determines how happy we are. To be sure, both factors have an imp act. But one’s general sense of well-being is surprisingly unstable. The habits you form, the way you interact with colleagues, how you think about stress---all these can be managed to increase your happiness and your chances of success.

Most people have some regret that they just can't seem to get rid of. But holding on to regret about the past that can't be changed can have a bad impact on the possibility of a happy future. Regret is a waste of time, emotion and energy. To make sure that your life is a successful one, you need to take action to live in a way that you have no regret holding you back. Some people make very big decisions with very little consideration at all, and as a result they often regret their decisions. Before choosing a college major, getting married or accepting a job, you must think about all conditions carefully and make a conscious decision rather than a careless one. Big decisions aren't the only ones that require forethought, though. Before you become angry and say something you will regret later, think about what you're going to say. Some of things will be easy to do and some will be hard, but keep your eyes on the prize of living a successful life without regret, and you'll find that achieving your goals might be easier than you think. But don't just daydream about those goals—make an actual list, written down in black and white, and refer to it now and then to see what you have left to do.When you're feeling happy and full of energy, taking care of yourself isn't a problem. But in those days when you feel like crawling beneath the bed and never coming out again, you still must take care of yourself. You can do what you want and don't get angry with yourself about your shortcomings. On the contrary, you just admit them and try to change them and move on. Improving your mental health is just as important as taking care of yourself physically.Keep those who are important to you very close and be sure to let them know how important they are to you. Family, friends, co-workers and people who are as close as your families are your lifelines that you can depend on whenever you need them to help you remember what's important in life. You should make sure of repairing your relationships with your friends if something bad happens.Last but not least, learn to give yourself some relaxation and not to waste your time regretting things you cannot change. Treat those things properly and move on. Life is hard, but it is precious. Don't waste time regretting the past, or your future will get here before you know it.consideration;list;practice;health;unchangeable【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,很多人都有一些永远无法清除的遗憾,总是纠缠无法改变的遗憾可能会对我们的未来产生不好的影响。

Teamwork is just as important in science as it is on the playing field or in the gym. Scientific investigations (调查) are almost always carried out by teams of people working together. Ideas are shared, experiences are designed, data are analyzed, and results are evaluated and shared with other investigators. Group work is necessary, and is usually more productive than working alone.Several times throughout the year you may be asked to work with one or more of your classmates. Whatever teh task your group is assigned, a few rules need to be followed to ensure a productive and successful experience. What comes first is to keep an open mind, becasue everyone’s ideas deserve consideration and each group member can make his or her own contribution. Secondly, it makes a job easier to divide the group task among all group members. Choose a role on the team that is best suited to your particular strengths. Thirdly, always work together, take turns, and encourage each other by listening, clarifying, and trusting one another. Mutual support and trust often make a great difference.Activities like investigations are most effective when done by small groups. Here are some more suggestions for effective team performance during these activities: Make sure each group member understands and agrees to the task given to him or her, and everyone knows exactly when, why and what to do; take turns doing various tasks during similar and repeated activities; be aware of where other group members are and what they are doing so as to ensure safety; be responsible for your own learning, though it is by no means unwise to compare your observations with those of other group members. When there is research to be done, divide the topic into several areas, and this can explore the issue in a very detailed way. You are encouraged to keep records of the sources used each person, which helps you trace back to the origin of the problems that may happen unexpectedly. A format for exchanging information (e.g. photocopies of notes, oral discussion, etc.) is also important, for a well-chosen method not only strengthens what you present but also makes yourself easily understood. When the time comes to make a decision and take a position on an issue, allow for the contributions of each member of the group. Most important of all, it is always wise to make decisions by compromise and agreement. After you’ve completed a task with your team, make an evaluation of the team’s effectiveness —the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges.2009任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。

江苏高中英语任务型阅读二5篇(附标准答案)

江苏高中英语任务型阅读5篇一.Ⅲ.任务型阅读(2014·淮安调研)You say you want to be alone? Think again. Researchers have found that older people with fewer human contacts are more likely to die — even if they're happy in their isolation (孤立状态) — than people with richer social lives. The study adds to the debate over whether loneliness, social isolation, or some combination of the two leads to higher death rate.Social isolation is an objective condition in which people have little communication with others. Loneliness, on the other hand, is an emotional state felt by people who are dissatisfied with their social connections. To find out the effects of being alone versus (比对) just feeling lonely, Steptoe of University College London and his colleagues examined data from 6,500 Britons aged 50 and up who had filled out questionnaires evaluating their levels of loneliness. The most socially isolated subjects had a 26% greater risk of dying, even when sex, age, and other factors linked to survival were taken into account, the researchers report online today. They then made changes about their model to determine whether the connection to death was due to the fact that isolated people are often lonely. It wasn't.The researchers then explored the connection between loneliness itself and death. Intense loneliness also appeared to raise the risk of death by 26% — until the team took into account a host of other factors linked to survival, including wealth, education, and the presence of health problems. Once their impact had been explained, the scientists discovered that loneliness on its own didn't make people more vulnerable (脆弱的) to death. The researchers suspect that older people who have few social ties may not be getting the care they need. No one is urging them to eat right or take their medicine, and in a crisis no one is there to help.Other researchers praise the new work as rigorous (严密的) and wellcontrolled. But they say it's far from clear that social isolation, not loneliness, is always the real cause of increased death rate.Other studies, including an analysis of older Americans led by John Cacioppo, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, have shown a link between loneliness and a higher death rate. Cacioppo suspects that the disagreement between his study and the new research could lie with cultural differences between Steptoe's British subjects and Americans, and that Britons and Americans may define friends differently, too.Health psychologist Bert Uchino of the University of Utah praises the new study, but he says that researchers are still far from understanding how those two factors affect one another and other healthrelated behaviors.二.Ⅲ.任务型阅读(2014·南通高三二调)Do You Play to Win — or to Not Lose?In what kinds of situations are you most effective? What factors strengthen or weaken your motivation? People answer these questions in many different ways. Now studies show us a way of grouping people into types on the basis of personality nature that does predict performance: promotion focus or prevention focus.Motivational focus affects how we approach life's challenges and demands. Promotionfocused people see their goals as creating a path to gain or advancement and concentrate on the rewards that will accumulate when they achieve them. They are eager and they play to win. You'll recognize promotionfocused people as those who are comfortable taking chances, who like to work quickly, who dream big and think creatively. Unfortunately, all that chance taking, speedy working, and positive thinking makes these individuals more likely to make mistakes, less likely to think things through and usually unprepared with a plan B if things go wrong. That's a price they are willing to pay, because for the promotionfocused, the worst thing is a chance not taken, a reward unearned, a failure to advance. The promotionfocused are likely to find “artistic and investigative” careers, as musicians, copywriters, inventors, and consultants. These tend to be thinkoutsidethebox jobs, in which people are rewarded for creative thinking, and being practical isn't emphasized.Preventionfocused people, in contrast, see their goals as responsibilities. They worry about what might go wrong if they don't work hard enough or aren't careful enough. They are cautious and play to not lose, to hang on to what they have, to maintain the status quo (现状). They often try to stay safe, so their work is more thorough, accurate, and carefully considered. To succeed, they work slowly and carefully. They aren't usually the most creative thinkers, but they may have excellent analytical (分析的) and problemsolving skills. While the promotionminded bring lots of ideas, good and bad, it often takes someone preventionminded to tell the difference between the two.Studies show that preventionfocused individuals are likely to take up what organizational psychologists call “conventional and realistic” work, as administrators, bookkeepers, accountants, technicians, and manufacturing workers. These occupations require knowledge of rules and regulations, careful performance, and a propensity (癖好) for thoroughness — they are jobs in which attention to detail is what really pays off.Although everyone is concerned at various times with both promotion and prevention, most of us have a dominant (占支配地位的) motivational focus. It affects what we pay attention to, what we value, and how we feel when we succeed or fail. It determines our strengths and weaknesses, both personally and professionally.三.Ⅲ.任务型阅读(2014·苏州五市四区高三月考) Goals are the guides all through our life. We all have goals that we are moving towards and making a great effort to achieve. This is a good thing. Or can it be bad? How many of us never reach our goals and yet we have tried so hard and really thought about nothing else? I believe the mistake most of us make is that we do not focus on our present situation.Let me explain. Most of us see our present situation as a stepping stone that we use simply as a means of reaching our final destination. We don't take time to truly appreciate where we are today and all the great things we already have in our lives. We should focus our attention on the journey and not on the destination, or we will miss the beautiful scenery along the way.Let's use our job as an example. Now most of us want a promotion. We have plans to become the manager or general manager in our companies. Unfortunately, most of us will never reach the goal, but will watch others achieve our goal instead. What we should be doing is focusing on the job we are currently in now. Forget where we want to get to and just focus on the present. You see, what we can control is our performance in our current job. We can decide to be the best we possibly can in our current job. Now this may mean further education to have the skills we currently do not have. It may mean working harder to produce better results than our colleagues. It could simply be a change of attitude, such as stopping complaining and becoming a more devoted and supportive employee. By doing our current job to the best of our abilities, we in fact give ourselves the best chance of promotion. So the best thing for all of us to do to achieve our goals is to just focus on what we have and where we are now. Do the best and be the best we possibly can in our current situations, and we will give ourselves the very bestchance of reaching our goals in the future. We have heard the old sayings and they are true: “Rome wasn't built in a day.” “Patience is a virtue.”,and so on.Have patience, have appreciation of what we already have, and take time to help ourselves be the very best we can. Do these things and we will all reach our goals, but more importantly, we will enjoy our life every day.四.Ⅲ.任务型阅读(2014·苏州高三调研)Host family accommodation means that hosts treat the student as a full member of the household, eating together with the student and sharing the common living areas with him/her. No more than three adult students or four junior students will be accommodated in host family accommodation at one time.Host family accommodation remains popular among international students. It is the most economical and beneficial accommodation for any student. It is also the best way to practice English and learn new cultures. As a result, it is often seen as the number one choice for its advantages in language study, cultural communication and cost of living. Staying alongside host family enables students to get enough practice during the short time of their study so that their language acquisition is likely to become faster. Living in host families, students are able to spend a lot of time communicating with their “host parents”,who are often very hospitable and friendly, and get to knowthe local way of life, people and culture. Most host families are alwaysready to help students out in any situation. Often the bonds that are made between international students and their host families endure many years, and are maintained through letters and emails. Another advantage is that host family accommodation can sometimes be the least expensive. It attracts students as it ensures them a family type of living at a low cost. The advantages, however, have not prevented host families from worrying. On the one hand, some host families are losing their unique selling point. One problem is that the majority of hosts in big cities, now generally single and young, have less time available for international students, but the selling point for host family accommodation is communication practice. On the other hand, students' expectations have risen. They are becoming more demanding and asking for more than ever from their accommodation, as they come mainly from high socioeconomic groups in their own countries. To get out of the difficult situation, host families are now making efforts to improve the quality of service. They are trying to make living conditions better, including broadband Internet service, private bathroom, and access to plenty of hot water for long showers. They are also providing students with structured family activities. It is believed that host family accommodation will keep popular with international students.(2014·宿迁高三摸底)Back to School: Why Grit (毅力) Is More Important than Good Grades? The backtoschool season is upon us, and once again, parents across the country have loaded their kids' backpacks up with snack packs and school supplies. It's a good moment to reflect on what else we should be giving our kids as they head off to school.American parents are feeling particularly anxious about that question this year. The educational process feels more than ever like a race, one that starts in prepreschool and doesn't end until your child is admitted to the perfect college. Most parents are more worried than they need to be about their children's grades, test scores and IQ. And what we don't think about enough is how to help our children build their character — how to help them develop skills like perseverance, grit, optimism, conscientiousness, and selfcontrol, which together do more to determine success than S. A.T. scores or I. Q.There is growing evidence that our anxiety about our children's school performance may actually be holding them back from learning some of these valuable skills. If you're concerned only with a child's G. P. A. , then you will likely choose to minimize the challenges the child faces in school. With real challenge comes the risk of real failure. And in a competitive academic environment, the idea of failure can be very scary, to students and parents alike. But experiencing failure is a critical part of building character. Recent research by a team of psychologists found that adults who had experienced little or no failure growing up were actually less happy and confident than those who had experienced a few significant setbacks in childhood. “Overcoming those obstacles,”the researchers assumed, “could teach effective coping skills, help engage social support networks, create a sense of mastery over past adversity, and foster beliefs in the ability to cope successfully in the future.”By contrast, when we protect our children from every possible failure — when we call their teachers to get an extension on a paper; when we urge them to choose only those subjects they're good at — we are denying them those same characterbuilding experiences. As the psychologists Madeline Levine and Dan Kindlon have written, that can lead to difficulties in adolescence and young adulthood, when overprotected young people finally confront real problems on their own and don't know how to overcome them.In the classroom and outside of it, American parents need to encourage children to take chances, to challengethemselves, to risk failure. In the meantime, giving our kids room to fail may be one of the best ways we can help them succeed.一.Ⅲ.(1)increase/raise(2)debate(3)communicate(4)feel(5)loneliness(6)help (7)opinions/views/ideas(8)unclear/vague/ambiguous(9)different(10)understanding二.Ⅲ.(1)Purpose/Aim(2)based(3)performance(4)accumulating/achieving/earning(5)creative (6)carelessly/imperfectly (7)responsibility(8)risk(9)analyzing(10)poor/weak三.Ⅲ.(1)achieve/reach(2)mistakes(3)appreciating(4)example(5)Forget/Ignore(6)try/do(7)colleagues/others(8)devote(9)patient(10)succeed四.Ⅲ.(1)Definition(2)Advantages/Benefits(3)communicate(4)lifestyle(5)Cost(6)lack/haven't (7)expectation(s) (8)Measures(9)improving/bettering (10)Conclusion五.Ⅲ.(1)load (2)attach(3)view/opinion(4)research(5)discourage/prevent/hinder/stop/keep (6)tendency(7)happier(8)result(9)Encourage(10)failure(s)。

They are also providing students with structured family activities. It is believed that host family accommodation will keep popular with international students.五.III.(2014•宿迁高三摸底)Back to School: Why Grit (毅力)Is More Important than Good Grades? The back-to-school season isupon us, and once again, parents across the countryhave loaded their kids' backpacks up with snack packs and school supplies. It's a good moment to reflect on what else we should be giving our kids as they head off to school.American parents are feeling particularly anxious about that question this year. The educational process feels more than ever like a race, one that starts in pre-preschool and doesn't end until your child is admitted to the perfect college. Most parents are more worried than they need to be about their children's grades, test scores and IQ. And what we don't think about enough is how to help our children build their character — how to help them develop skills likeperseverance, grit, optimism, conscientiousness, and self-control, which together do more to determine success than S.A. T. scores or I. Q.There is growing evidence that our anxiety about our children's school performance may actually be holding them back from learning some ofhese valuable skills. If you're concerned only with a child's G. P. A. , then you will likely choose to minimize the challenges the child faces in school. With real challenge comes the risk of real failure. And in a competitive academic environment, the idea of failure can be very scary, to students and parents alike. But experiencing failure is a critical part ofuilding character. Recent research by a team of psychologists found that adults who had experienced little or no failure growing up were actually less happy and confident thanthose who had experienced afew significant setbacks inchildhood. “Overcoming those obstacles,” the researchers assumed, “could teach effective coping skills, help engage social support networks, create a sense of mastery over past adversity, and foster beliefs in the ability to cope successfully in the future.”By contrast, when we protect our children from every possible failure—when we call their teachers to get an extension on a paper; when we urge them to choose only those subjects they're good at — we are denying them those same character-building experiences. As the psychologists Madeline Levine and Dan Kindlon have written, that can lead to difficulties in adolescence and young adulthood, when overprotected young people finally confront real problems on their own and don't know how to overcome them.In the classroom and outside of it, American parents need to encourage children to take chances, to challenge themselves, to risk failure. In the meantime, giving our kids room to fail may be one of the best ways we can help them succeed.一.Ill .⑴increase/raise (2)debate (3)communicate (4)feel (5)loneliness (6)help (7)opinions/views/ideas(8)unclear/vague/ambiguous (9)different (10)understanding二. lll.(1)Purpose/Aim (2)based (3)performance (4)accumulating/achieving/earning (5)creative(6)carelessly/imperfectly (7)responsibility (8)risk (9)analyzing (10)poor/weakH.H.(1)achieve/reach (2)mistakes (3)appreciating (4)example (5)Forget/Ignore(6)try/do (7)colleagues/others (8)devote (9)patient (10)succeed四.lll.(1)Definition (2)Advantages/Benefits (3)communicate (4)lifestyle (5)Cost (6)lack/haven't(7)expectation(s) (8)Measures (9)improving/bettering (10)Conclusion五. Intense loneliness also appeared to raise the risk of death by 26% —until the team took into account a host of other factors linked to survival, including wealth, education, and the presence of health problems. Once their impact had been explained, the scientists discovered that loneliness on its own didn't make people more vulnerable (脆弱的) to death. The researchers suspect that older people who have few social ties may not be getting the care they need. No one is urging them to eat right or take their medicine, and in a crisis no one is there to help.Other researchers praise the new work as rigorous (严密的) and well-controlled. But they say it's far from clear that social isolation, not loneliness, is always the real cause of increased death rate.Other studies, including an analysis of older Americans led by John Cacioppo, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, have shown a link between loneliness and a higher death rate. Cacioppo suspects that the disagreement between his study and the new research could lie with cultural differences between Steptoe's British subjects and Americans, and that Britons and Americans may define friends differently, too.Health psychologist Bert Uchino of the University of Utah praises the new study, but he says that researchers are still far from understanding how those two factors affect one another and other health-related behaviors.二.Ⅲ.任务型阅读(2014·南通高三二调)Do You Play to Win — or to Not Lose?In what kinds of situations are you most effective? What factors strengthen or weaken your motivation? People answer these questions in many different ways. Now studies show us a way of grouping people into types on the basis of personality nature that does predict performance: promotion focus or prevention focus.Motivational focus affects how we approach life's challenges and demands. Promotion-focused people see their goals as creating a path to gain or advancement and concentrate on the rewards that will accumulate when they achieve them. They are eager and they play to win. You'll recognize promotion-focused people as those who are comfortable taking chances, who like to work quickly, who dream big and think creatively. Unfortunately, all that chance taking, speedy working, and positive thinking makes these individuals more likely to make mistakes, less likely to think things through and usually unprepared with a plan B if things go wrong. That's a price they are willing to pay, because for the promotion-focused, the worst thing is a chance not taken, a reward unearned, a failure to advance. The promotionfocused are likely to find “artistic and investigative” careers, as musicians, copywriters, inventors, and consultants. These tend to be think-outside-the-box jobs, in which people are rewarded for creative thinking, and being practical isn't emphasized.Prevention-focused people, in contrast, see their goals as responsibilities. They aren't usually the most creative thinkers, but they may have excellent analytical (分析的) and problem-solving skills. While the promotion-minded bring lots of ideas, good and bad, it often takes someone prevention-minded to tell the difference between the two.Studies show that prevention-focused individuals are likely to take up what organizational psychologists call “conventional and realistic” work, as administrators, bookkeepers, accountants, technicians, and manufacturing workers. So the best thing for all of us to do to achieve our goals is to just focus on what we have and where we are now.Do the best and be the best we possibly can in our current situations, and we will give ourselves the very best chance of reaching our goals in the future. Living in host families, students are able to spend a lot of time communicating with their “host parents”,who are often very hospitable and friendly, and get to know the local way of life, people and culture. Most host families are alwaysready to help students out in any situation. Often the bonds that are made between international students and their host families endure many years, and are maintained through letters and e-mails. They are becoming more demanding and asking for more than ever from their accommodation, as they come mainly from high socio-economic groups in their own countries. To get out of the difficult situation, host families are now making efforts to improve the quality of service. They are trying to make living conditions better, including broadband Internet service, private bathroom, and access to plenty of hot water for long showers. 苏州市高考英语任务型阅读训练经典题目(附答案)一、高中英语任务型阅读1.任务型阅读Just as team members today have assigned doing roles, there should also be thinking roles. By knowing how other members of your learn and organization think---and by others knowing how you think—everyone can be more productive. So how should you evaluate how you and your team think? After a lot of trial-and-error, we developed a three-step method that delivers practical and meaningful results.Focus. Do you tend to pay the most attention to ideas, process, action, or relationships? For example, in the morning do you think about the problems you need to solve, the plans you need to make, the actions you need to take, or the people you need to see? This isn't about picking one to the exclusion(排除)of the other. It's about where your focus naturally lands.Orientation(方向). A good way to identify your orientation is thinking about what tends to bother you in meetings. Are you more likely to complain about getting dragged into the weeds or about things being too general and not specific enough? These dimensions are complementary(补充的)to personality, skills, and traditional roles.Combination. By combing these two dimensions you can know about the thinking style at work in whatever context or setting you chose. When you know your thinking style, you know what naturally energizes you, why certain type of problems are challenging or boring, and what you can do to improve in areas that are important to reaching your goals. Once you know your style, it helps to share it with others, and have others share theirs with you. In this way, your thinking style becomes a useful tool---a kind of social currency---for the team. Imaging you put together a team to work on a new initiative(行动). Wouldn't you like to know who is energized by big-picture strategy discussions and who finds them frustrating? Who likes to work on the details of the execution? And who is energized by managing the team dynamics? The landscape of business is changing rapidly, and we have to find new and better ways to connect and communicate. We all want to work better together, the challenge is actually making it happen. Understanding collaboration(合作)through the way of thinking rather than doing is a practical and powerful step forward.【答案】equally;improve/increase;evaluating;thinking;choice;whether;combine;contributes/leads;Conclusion;how【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,正如今天的团队成员分配的角色一样,也应该有思考的角色,两者同样重要。

Quiet Virtue: The ConscientiousThe everyday signs of conscientiousness (认真尽责 )—being punctual, careful in doing work,self-disciplined, and scrupulous ( 一丝不苟的) in attending to responsibilities —are typical characteristics of the model organizational citizen, the people who keep things running as they should. They follow the rules, help out, and are concerned about the people they work with. It the conscientious worker who helps newcomers or updates people who return after an absence, who gets to work on time and never abuses sick leaves, who always gets things done on deadline.Conscientiousness is a key to success in any field. In studies of job performance, outstanding effectiveness for almost all jobs, from semi-skilled labor to sales and management, depends on conscientiousness. It is particularly important for outstanding performance in jobs at the lower levels of an organization: the secretary whose message taking is perfect, the delivery truck driverwho is always on time.Among sales representatives for a large American car manufacturer, those who were most conscientious had the largest volume of sales. Conscientiousness also offers a buffer (缓冲) against the threat of job loss in today ’s constantly changing market, because employeeswith thisquality are among the most valued. For the sales representatives, their level of conscientiousness mattered almost as much as their sales in determining who stayed on.There is an air around highly conscientious people that makes them seem even better thanthey actually are. Their reputation for dependability influences managers ’evaluations of their work, giving them higher evaluations than objective measures of their performance would predict. But conscientiousness in the absence of social skills can lead to problems. Since conscientious people demand so much of themselves, they can hold other people to their own standards, and so be overly judgmental whe n others don’sthow the same high levels of model behavior. Success in such occupations calls for a balance, however;without enough conscientiousness to follow through, people become mere dreamers, with nothingto show for their imaginativeness.

Happiness Advantage〞EffectIn July 2021 Burt’s Bees, a personal-care products company, was going through enormous change as it began a global expansion into 19 new countries. In this kind of high-pressure situation, many leaders bother their assistants with frequent meetings or flood their in-boxes with urgent demands. In doing so, managers lift everyone’s anxiety l evel, which activates the part of the brain that processes threats and steals resources from the prefrontal cortex(大脑皮层), which is responsible for effective problem solving.Burt’s Bees’s then-CEO, John Wolfgang, took a different approach. Each day, he’d s end out an e-mail praising a team member for work related to global marketing. He’d interrupt his own presentations to remind his managers to talk with their teams about the company’s values. “Once I get a promotion, I’ll be happy,〞they think. Or, “Once I hit sales targe, I’ll feel great.〞But because success is a moving target—as soon as you hit your target, you raise it again ----- the happiness that results from success does not last long.In fact, it works the other way around: People who have a positive mind-set perform better in the face of challenge. I call this the “happiness advantage〞–every business outcome shows improvement when the brain is positive. I've observed this effect in my role as a researcher and lecturer in 48 countries on the connection between employee happiness and success. And I’m notalone: In an analysis of 225 academic studies, researchers found strong evidence of cause-and-effect relationship between life satisfaction and successful business outcomes.Another common misunderstanding is that our genetics, our environment, or a combination of the two determines how happy we are. To be sure, both factors have an impact. But one’s general sense of well-being is surprisingly unstable. The habits you form, the way you interact with colleagues, how you think about stress---all these can be managed to increase your happiness and your chances of success.题型自主分析:1、原词重现〔信息查找〕:2、词性转换〔信息加工〕:3、提炼概括〔信息归纳〕:2021江苏卷第四局部:任务型阅读(共10小题;每题1分,总分值10分)请认真阅读以下短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。

江苏高考英语真题任务型阅读

注意:请将答案写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上。

每个空格只填一个单词。
