Two. The Exhaust System
The exhaust system carries exhaust gases
from the engine’s combustion chamber to the atmosphere and reduces engine noise. Exhaust gases leave in a pipe, start from the exhaust manifold, traveling through a catalytic converter and a muffler before exiting through the tail pipe. The basis of the problem gases are:hydrocarbons (unburned), carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide.
(1)The Fuel Delivery System The fuel delivery system consists of fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel delivery pipe, injector, fuel pressure regulator and fuel return pipe (Fig.5-2).
(2) Warm up: The warm up phase
follows the cold start. The engine needs extra fuel, because some of the fuel still condenses on the cold cylinder walls.
The fuel injection systems used in automobiles are port fuel injection and Throttle Body Injection (TBI). Port fuel injection is called Multiple Point Injection(MPI). Throttle body injection is also called Single Point Injection (SPI).

They’re still readily available in the new car marketplace. Full-size cars may be well over 5000 mm long and are the roomiest vehicles.
trade-off [trei dɔ:f] n.
Parking maneuverability and fuel economy are superior to the full-size models, while maintenance access, roominess and long-trip comfort are better than those of the compacts and subcompacts. Intermediates have room for five adults and a large trunk (boot).
crash-protection [kræʃprə'tekʃən] n.
Original cost is somewhat higher than that for the subcompacts. Fuel economy is comparable and maintenance access easier.

Engine The engine acts as the power unit. The internal combustion engine is most common: this obtains its power by burning a liquid fuel inside the engine cylinder. There are two types of engine :gasoline(also called a spark-ignition engine) and diesel(also called a compression-ignition engine). Both engines are called heat engines; the burning fuel generates heat which causes the gas inside the cylinder to increase its pressure and supply power to rotate a shaft connected to the transmission.

Coating is a systematic engineering, which includes three basic processes of surface treatment, coating process and drying before coating, as well as a reasonable coating system.Maintaining a spotlessly clean, dust-free environment is critical to the quality and consistency of each car’s paint job. Now, in order to make the quality standard for line-off, there are four layers in painting including: ED, Sealer & PVC, Primer and Topcoat.

1.Engine 发动机
The engine-the“heart”of the automobile-operates on internal combustion, meaning the fuel used for its power is burned inside of the engine. The four-stroke engine is the most common type of automobile engine. The engine is comprised of pistons, cylinders, tubes to deliver fuel to the cylinders, and other components . Each system is necessary for making the automobile run and reducing noise and pollution.

Automobiles, trucks, and buses are essential forms of transportation. They are complex ma-chines made up of many parts. These parts can be grouped into a number of systems. An under-standing of how the systems work will help you understand how the automobile works.

An automobile can be divided into two basic parts—a body and a chassis. The body is the enclosure that houses the engine, passengers, and cargo. It is the part of the automobile that you see. The chassis is that part of the automobile beneath the body. Figure 1-1.

1.1 The BodyAn automobile body is a sheet metal shell with windows, doors, a hood, and a trunk deck built into it. It provides a protective covering for the engine, passengers, and cargo. The body is designed to keep passengers safe and comfortable. For example, insulation in the body reduces noise and protects against heat and cold. The body styling provides an attractive, colorful, modern appearance for the vehicle. It is stream-lined to lessen wind resistance and to keep the car from swaying at driving speeds. The automobile body has two basic parts—the upper body and the under body.

1.2 The ChassisThe chassis is an assembly of those systems that are the major operating parts of a vehicle. The chassis includes everything except the body. The three important parts of the chassis are the frame, the engine, and the power train (also called the drive train). Each of these three parts is made up of a number of systems. A system is a mechanical or electrical unit that performs a specific function. Thus, each system (such as steering, brake, or fuel) has a certain job to do in running a vehicle. We shall look at each of these parts and systems to see how they fit together to form the automobile chassis.

1.2.1 The FrameThe first major part of the chassis is the frame. It is made from tough steel sections welded, riveted, or bolted together. The frame looks like a steel ladder, though it sometimes has an X shape for extra strength. It forms a foundation for the car body and the parts of the several systems. The body is joined to the frame with bolts. Rubber shock mounts or washers are used at each joint. These reduce vibration and road noise. In most modern cars the frame is built into the body. A car with the frame built into the body has a unitized body or unibody. The frame supports the suspension system, steering system, and braking system.

The front and rear wheels are attached to the chassis by a suspension system. This system is made up of springs, shock absorbers, control arms, and stabilizers. 'These support the vehicle and cushion it from road bumps for better ride and handling.
