Pets require time, energy, and responsibility from their owners. You have to feed them, give them shelter, play with them, and keep them healthy. Having a pet is like having a tiny furry (or scaly) child!That's why I think kids should be allowed to have pets. Taking care of a pet teaches responsibility, compassion, and empathy. It's an important way for children to learn how to nurture another living creature from a young age. Of course, parents need to supervise and help their kids with pet care duties at first. But over time, kids can take over more responsibilities as they get older.Pets also provide emotional benefits for children. They can reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Playing with a pet is a fun way to get exercise and spend time outdoors. Pets teach kids about the cycle of life too, when they eventually pass away. It was a little difficult atfirst to train him but we watched some videos online and I was persistent with giving him treats whenever he did the trick right. Now he's a little superstar! We should definitely win!The only bad thing about having a pet is that you do have to clean up their messes. Like if Rufus has an accident inside or tracks mud in from the backyard. And he sheds a ton too so there's always dog hair all over the house no matter how much we vacuum. My dad says we basically are living in a dog hair tumbleweeds these days! It can be gross for sure. But it's totally worth it to have Rufus as part of our family. Rufus barks every time a squirrel runs across our backyard or when doorbells rings. We're working on training him not to bark as much but it's a process. And although they are cute, dogs (and any pet) is a huge responsibility. You can't just get one and then not take care of it properly. That's why I had to prove I was ready by doing extra chores and stuff before we got Rufus.All in all though, any little annoying things like that are so small compared to how much joy Rufus brings me. I have to use super long tongs to handle him since he could bite, but he's usually pretty chill. It's really cool to watch Apollo slither around using his strong muscular body. Sometimes he gets grumpy and hisses at me though! Every week, I have to feed Apollo a dead mouse...which is kinda gross, but that's what snakes eat! He gets very still and quiet when he's about to strike and swallow the mouse whole. Pretty amazing but also a little creepy, you know? Apollo sheds his skin a couple times a year and I keep the snake skins as souvenirs. That probably sounds icky to you but I think it's awesome!Those are my three main pets - Rufus the dog, Daisy the cat, and Apollo the snake. Bailey always finds a way to snuggle up next to me on the couch. I think she knows how much I love hugging her soft furry body.Bailey is really smart and loves learning new things. She knows tons of tricks like shake, high five, spin, and even dance! For dance we hold her front paws and move side to side. Bailey gets so excited and starts moving her feet to keep up. It's the cutest thing!My favorite Bailey trick is when she brings me her toys. I'll say "Go get your ball!" or whatever toy I want, and Bailey will run around looking for it. Once she finds it, she carefully carries it over and drops it right in front of me. Then she looks so proud of herself! I always make sure to give her lots of praise and scratches when she does a good job.Last but not least is my cat Oliver. He's a big orange tabby who just turned 6 years old. Oliver is a lot calmer and more independent than Charlie and Bailey. He likes to do his own thing, napping in sunny spots or grooming himself. Oliver loves getting brushed though! Whenever I get out the cat brush, he'll immediately flop over so I can brush his soft belly fur.Oliver is really playful too, but in short bursts in between his many naps. Oliver leaps straight up in the air, twisting and flipping trying to catch it. Then I scatter them all over the living room. Oliver sees it as his duty to hunt down and capture each paper ball one by one. He bats them around, pounces on them, and carries them back to his box.
