科技英语中倍数的表达与翻译技巧摘要：科技专业的文本，在翻译上力求严谨准确。
但数字翻译一直是科技翻译中的一个难点，其要求译文必须逻辑准确、数据无误。
英汉科技文本中的数字翻译大致分为四类：精确数字、分数、倍数和百分数。
本文通过译例，旨在分析探讨科技文本中数字的翻译技巧，以期对走出数字翻译的误区提供借鉴和指导。

就连权威人士也不例外。
对于同一句型的两个例句都有不同的翻译，导致的争议也很大。
如“A is 3 times bigger than B.”该译成“A 比 B 大三倍（A是B的四倍）”还是“A比B大两倍（A 是 B 的三倍）”。
还有很多人还对“增加”和“增加至”两个概念混淆，“increase 3 times”应译成“增加到三倍（增加两倍）”还是“增加三倍（增加到四倍）”。
以及基数到底要不要翻译呢？以及这些都是倍数翻译时争议很大的问题。
造成倍数翻译的误区究其根本原因还在于主要原因在于中西思维方式存在差异，英语和汉语的倍数表示法在概念上有不同之处，主要有两点：一是中英文倍数概念差异问题。
“A是B的四倍大”和“A比B大四倍”在中文里的含义是完全不一样的，“A是B的四倍大”意为“A是B的五倍大”。
同样，“增加到四倍”和“增加（了）四倍”在中文里的含义也是不一样的，“增加（了）四倍”即是“增加到五倍”。
中文思维模式的人们很自然地就能区别“是四倍”和“大四倍”，以及“增加了”和“增加至”这些概念。
而像这样的概念区别在英文里是不存在的。
在英文里表达倍数关系的句子，无论是表示倍数增加还是倍数减少，都只包含两层意思：A和B谁大；A是B的几倍。
比如“A is 3 times greater than B”就只表达这样两层意思：A比B大；A是B的三倍。
“大三倍”是中文的思维，而不是英文的思维，英文里不存在这样的概念。

一、存在的问题
“N times bigger than ”或“N times as bigger as ”以及“increase N times” 或“ increase to N times”等是译为 “大N倍”还是“大N－1倍”；“增加了 N倍”还是“增加了N－1倍” 1）The new method was over ten times more efficient than the traditional one. 2)We’re now hauling in ten times more fish than we did then.
三、英语倍数增减的表达方式与翻译方法
1、用times表达倍数增加的常见句型 1)A is N times bigger than B 2)A is bigger than B by N times 3)A is N times as big as B 4)A is N times the size of B 5) 表 示 增 加 意 义 的 动 词 与 times 连 用 , 即 ： increase by N times /to N times/ N times 根据考证，以上句型的实际含义相同，均为 A=B×N；都可翻译为：A的大小是B的N倍或A比 B大/或增加了N-1倍。
3.汉语有“增加N倍”（不包括基数）和 “增加到N倍”（包括基数）两种表达方 式，前一种表达方式比后一种表达方式 多一倍。外语表达倍数通常把基数包括 在内，在这种情况下，译成汉语如采用 “比……增加N倍”这种不包括基数的表 达方式，须注意把原文的倍数减一。
4。汉语的强比较“A比B大（或多）N倍” 不包括基数，英语的强比较通常把基数 包括在内，译成汉语时倍数要减一。如 果要保持原文所用的倍数不变，则不能 照样使用“A比B大多少倍”的句式，而 要改用“A有B多少倍大” “A为B多少倍” 这类句式。

而著名原文词典对两个词的解释如下:在WEBSTER’S THIRD NEW INTERNATIONAL DICTIONARY中,1. twofold – adj. being twice as large, as great or as many as some understood size, degree, or amount (a twofold increase) 2. twofold – adv. to twice as much or as many: by two times (increased twofold)。
汉译英：增加、减少以及成倍的英文翻译
汉译英：增加、减少以及成倍的英文翻译在汉英翻译中，我们经常会遇到数量增加、减少的问题。
然而英汉两种语言在倍数增减的表达上存在着很大差异，别说翻译了，就算是拿一篇现成的段落或文章来考考大家的阅读理解能力，也未必所有人都能准确理解文章内容。
请读者试着翻译这个句子：与去年同期相比，今年的出口总量增长了两倍。
译文：The total amount of the export has increased by three times, compared to the same time last year.分析：该句涉及数量的变化。
今年出口总量增加了两倍，是说在去年总量的基础上再增加了两倍。
那么，也就是说今年的总量应该已经增长到去年同期的三倍。
所以by three times为正解。
这题前面讲过的了，加深一下印象。
1)表示陈述某个数量的句型。
除最常用的系动词加数词之外，还可以用...go up to...，...as+adj. +as...，...has reached to...，...rise to...等。
例1 快过年了，大白菜的价格已接近3元一斤。
译文：The New Year is coming, and the price of the cabbage goes up to nearly 3 Yuan per kilogram.2)表示数量比较和增减的句型。
表示数量比较和增减的句型很多，大致包括...as...as...，...as...again as...，...数量词+as...as...，...as...as+数量词，...数量词+比较级+than...，比较级+than... by...，...数量词+the size(length，volume)of...，...数量词+that of...，...表增减的动词+by/ to/over/down...数量词。
例2 这种商店的价格是前一种商品的两倍。
