The Germans occupied Amsterdam in May 1940.In July 1942，German government and their Dutch collaborators (勾结者) began to concentrate (集中) Jews from throughout the Netherlands at Westerbork.During the first half of July，the Franks had to hide in an apartment.For over two years，they lived in a secret attic apartment behind the office of the familyowned business.On August 4,1944，the Gestapo discovered the hiding place.
