The headmaster thought highly of me
for my good performance.
Those who agreed that if you find cultural relics you can keep them had three reasons.
First, they said that time and money had been spent looking for them so the finders deserved them. Second, they said nobody would look for lost relics if they could not keep them. Third, they said that there are so many old relics that it does not matter if one or two belong to those who find them.
Sample writing for Exercise 4
The class had a debate and discussed whether it is right for whoever finds valuable cultural relics to keep them.
The question of the debate
Any cultural relics lost should not belong to the person or the country that finds it. The finder has no right to deal with it at will. Instead he should spare no efforts to protect it from being damaged. It’s the responsibility and duty of the finder to send it back to its owner. Cultural relics don’t belong to a single man; it belongs to the whole world and the human beings.
I must say that I agree with Johann Weber. If you find something, it should belong to you because you are the person who found it. People need to understand that when they lose something, they lose the right to own it. I must say that I don’t agree with you.
The ideas that disagree with the question with reasons
We had a class vote. Those who disagreed with the question won. The debate changed the minds of some people who had originally supported Johann Weber’s ideas.
Work in pairs. Discuss with your partner the following questions: 1. Who do you think the Amber Room belongs to? 2. What should you do with things you have found even if the search cost you time and money? 3. Do you agree with the writer?

Amber Room, the best and biggest work of amber art ever made, was first built for the palace of Frederick I. In 1916, Frederik William I gave it to Peter the Great as a gift of friendship and in return he got the Czar’s a troop of best soldiers. Thus the Amber Room became part of the Czar’swinter palace in St.Petersburg and servedas a small recephtiaolnl for important visitors. Later,Catherine II told her artists to add more details to its design. Unfortunately, in September,1941,When Russia and Nazi Germany were at war, the Amber Room was secretly stolen by the Nazis. 100,000 pieces of the room were put inside twenty-seven wooden boxes. There is no doubt that the boxes were then put on a train for Konigsberg. After that, the Amber Room wasmissing. While the search for the old room continues, the Russians and Germans have built a new Amber Room which was ready for the people of St.Petersbrug to celebrate the 300th birthday of their city in the spring of 2003.
