Each passage is followed by five questions orincomplete statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C,D. You shoulddecide on the best choice and write the corresponding letter on the Answer-Sheet.Passage 1A happy life and a meaningful life are not the same .Leading a happy life is associated with being a “taker”,while leading a meaningful life corresponds with being a “giver”.Happiness is about feeling good and getting what we want. People who are happy tent to think that life is easy. They are in good physical health and able to buy the things that they need and want. Happiness is about satisfying our needs and desires. The pursuit(追求) of happiness is often associated with selfish behavior. Animals have needs and desires and they can feel happy too. What sets human beings apart form animals is not the pursuit of happiness, but the pursuit of meaning, which is unique to humans. We can often find meaning in helping others or marking a sacrifice( 牺牲) for a “greater good”. Meaning often comes at the expense of happiness. When people have invested themselves in something bigger than themselves, they worry more and have higher levels of stress and anxiety in their lives than happy people. Volunteering ( 做义工) in rural schools, for example, is meaningful but also involves hardship.Happiness, like any emotion, is felt in the here and now --it eventually fades away .However, meaning is enduring. It connects the past to the present to the future.46.What is the main idea if the passage ?A. A happy life is basically different form a meaningful life.B. Leading a happy life is connected with being a “take”.C. Happiness is about feeling good and getting what we want.D. Meaning connected the past to the present to the future.47. Paragraph 2 tells us that the pursuit of happiness.A. sets humans apart form animalsB. is associated with selfish behaviorC. means to give up what one hasD. is unique to human being48. It is implied in Paragraph 4 that.A. meaning will disappear sooner or laterB. living a happy life means to be a “giver”C. happiness lasts a relatively short period of timeD. making a sacrifice for a “greater good” brings us happiness50. The passage is organized by.A. giving examplesB. making contrastsC. definingD. classifyingPassage 2Our traditional belief has it that morning larks are most likely to be healthy, wealthy and wise .But those who are to bed and early to rise do not always have the upper hand (占上风). Researchers have revealed that night owls(夜猫子) are generally brighter and wealthier than able to get up early in the morning.Experts examined the habits of 1,000 youngsters to determine whether they liked to stay up late and sleep in later in the morning, or preferred to go to bed early. School performance and inductive(归纳的) reasoning were measured and academic (学业的) ades in the major subjects were also taken into consideration. The results show that evening types score higher than morning types on inductive reason in which has been shown to be a good estimate of general intelligence and academic performance .The night owls also have a greater capacity to think conceptually (概念性地) and analyze. Such abilities have been linked to creative thinking, better jobs and higher incomes.Morning larks, however, often get better exam results in school, possibly because lessons are held at wrong time of day for night owls.51. The underlined expression”morning larks”in Paragraph 1refers to .A. birds which scream late at nightB. birds which sing early in the morningC. People who like to stay up late at nightD. people who are early to rise in the morning52. Traditionally, we hold that.A. Morning larks do not always have the upper handB.

2. Reading Comprehension 3. Cloze 5. Translation 6. WritingReading ComprehensionA quality education is the ultimate liberator. It can free people form poverty, giving them the power to greatly improve their lives and take a productive place in society. It can also free communities and countries, allowing them to leap forward into periods of wealth and social unity that otherwise would not be possible. For this reason, the international community has committed itself to getting all the world’s children into primary school by 2015, a commitment known as Education for All. Can Education for All be achieved by 2015? The answer is definitely”yes” , although it is a difficult task. If we now measure the goal in terms of children successfully completing a minimum of five years of primary school, instead of just enrolling for classes, which used to be the measuring stick for education, the challenge will become even more difficult. Only 32 countries were formerly believed to be at risk of not achieving education for all on the basis of enrollment rates. The number rises to 88 if completion rates are used as the standard. Still, the goal is achievable with the right policies and the right support from the international community. 59 of the 88 countries at risk can reach universal primary completion by 2015 if they bring the efficiency and quality of their education systems into line with standards observed in higher-performing systems. They also need significant increases in external(外部的)financing and technical support. The 29 countries lagging(落后)farthest behind will not reach the goal without unprecedented(空前的)rates of progress. But this is attainable with creative solutions, including the use of information technologies, flexible and targeted foreign aid, and fewer people living in poverty. A key lesson of experience about what makes development effective is that a country’s capacity to use aid well depends heavily on its policies, institutions and management. Where a country scores well on these standards, foreign assistance can be highly effective.1.It can be inferred from the passage that a quality education has the function of______.A.helping a country free from foreign ruleB.making people become wealthyC.giving people more power and freedomD.speeding up the progress of society正确答案:B解析:推断题。

• 例1:The professor required that ___________(我们交研究报告) by Wednesday .
Your losses in trade this year are nothing ______________________(与我的相比)。 相比”考 查词组知识,专升本程度同学应当掌握“compared with”或者“in comparison with”, 但常有考生把 “compare with”与“compare to”(把…

•
例2: Not only ___________________(他向我收费过高), but he didn’t do a good repair job either. 还要考虑的是本句 中“not only…but…” 结合后半句的一般过去时形式,我们不得不把助动 词did提炼出来,按照倒装结构翻译成“Not only did he charge me too much”或者“Not only did he overcharge me”。 类似的知识点还要注意 Never/Neither/Hardly/Scarcely等否定词在句首的倒装情况。
The substance does not dissolve in water ___________________________(不管是否加热)。 • 考查重点:从句知识:尤其让步状语从句,注意复习 whether… or…, though, no matter how等表达的用法。
2. I don't mind your_____________(你延期做出决定) the decision as long as it is not too late.
3. In the Chinese household, grandparents and other relatives_____________(起 着不可缺少的作用) in raising children. 4. Mark often____________________________(试图逃脱罚款) whenever he breaks traffic regulations. 5. When I __________________(发现他骗我) I stopped buying thins there and started dealing with another shop. 6. I suggested he ____________________ (使自己适应) his new conditions. 7. What a lovely party! It's worth_________________( 牢记一生 ).
例:(为了挣钱供我上学)______________________, mother often takes on more work than is good for her 【考点剖析】对于“为了挣钱供我上学”的表达,我们 可以说To earn money for my education; To earn money for my schooling ; In order to make money to finance my education ; In order to make money to fund my education ; In order to earn money to afford my education等。
•
例1:By contrast, American mothers were more likely _______________________________ (把孩子的成功归因于) natural talent。 1)be likely to do sth ; 2) owe...to /attribute...to (把... 总之,需要填入的部分拼贴在一起就是 “to attribute their children’s success to”。 需要熟练掌握用法 的还有lead to, result in, result from, be to blame for, be responsible for。
1:Though a skilled worker,
____________________(他被公司解雇了) last week because of the economic crisis .
On average, it is said, visitors spend only _____________________(一半的钱) in a day in Leeds as in London. • 显然本句在拿as…as… 根据比 较结构中的倍数原则,倍数数字放在最开始,接下去有 关于量的as much+n.+as, 因此本句要填入 “half as much money”。
The author was required to submit an abstract of about 200 words together with his research paper. 1:He gave a pledge to handle the affairs in a friendly manner . 因为在这句话中,出现了考点叠加的现象:第一,give a pledge to do sth (承诺做某事);第二,handle(处理)这个核心动词的用法;第 三,in ...manner(以...
