Soon it opens up and hundreds of Charlotte's children are born as beautiful little spiders. Wilbur makes sure they can all build their own webs and find food. Thanks to Wilbur's care, Charlotte's family goes off to live their lives, carrying on her memory.And what about Wilbur? Well as you can probably guess, the farmer couldn't possibly think of getting rid of such an amazing, terrific, radiant pig! Wilbur gets to live out the rest of his days safe and happy on the farm, playing with all his friends. He never forgets his dearest friend Charlotte and how her webs saved his life.This book shows that friendship can come from the most unexpected places. Charlotte the spider and Wilbur the pig seem like an unlikely pair of best friends, but they loved each other unconditionally. Charlotte was willing to do anything to protect Wilbur, even though she knew her lifespan was short. And Wilbur in turn made sure Charlotte's family and memory lived on after she was gone.The story makes me laugh out loud at the funny adventures Wilbur gets into, but it also makes me cry sad tears thinking about how much Wilbur will miss Charlotte. It's a beautiful tale about the power of kindness, the importance of friends who truly care about you, and the resilience of life that continues on through many generations.I've read this book over and over and I never get tired of it! The descriptive writing by E.B. White makes me feel like I'm right there in the barn cuddling up with Wilbur and Charlotte. I can smell the hay and hear the animals chattering away. But The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the first and the best one in my opinion!The story starts out in London during World War II. There are these four kids named Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie. Since the cities aren't safe with all the air raids happening, they get sent away to live in an old professor's giant house in the country to keep them safe. One rainy day, the youngest sisterLucy stumbles through an old wardrobe and finds herself in a magical place called Narnia!At first her brothers and sister don't believe her when she tells them about this strange snowy forest world she discovered. But then one day they all get stumbling through the wardrobe too and see that Lucy was telling the truth! Narnia is this amazing place filled with talking animals and mythical creatures. It's being ruled over by an evil White Witch who has made it always winter but never Christmas. How unfair is that?! The White Witch is just the worst.The kids soon learn that Narnia has been waiting for the arrival of the Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve - in other words, the Pevensie children! They are destined to defeat the White Witch and restore the rightful king to Narnia. This king is the great Aslan, who is this powerful and wise lion. Aslan is the best character and my favorite part of the whole book!The rest of the story follows the kids' adventures in trying to join up with Aslan and his army to take down the White Witch. There are so many exciting parts - like when Lucy meets the faun Mr. Tumnus, or the epic battle between Peter and the evil wolf Maugrim. Edmund gets tricked by the Witch and becomes a traitor for a while which is really sad. But then he redeemshimself in the end which I loved. And the scenes with Aslan are just amazing - he is so powerful but also so kind and good. I cried so hard when he sacrificed himself for Edmund on the Stone Table!By the end, the Pevensie kids manage to defeat the White Witch with Aslan's help. Aslan is named the true king of Narnia, and the kids get to reign as kings and queens themselves for years before eventually going back to their own world as children again. Just thinking about it makes me want to read the whole book over again!I love The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for so many reasons. First of all, the world of Narnia that C.S. Lewis created is so imaginative and magical, but also has such great meaning. On the surface it's this exciting fantasy adventure. But there are also all these deeper themes about faith, sacrifice, redemption and doing the right thing even when it's hard. The characters like Aslan, the Witch, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, Tumnus, and the kids are all so well-developed too. You really grow to care about them over the course of the story.I also love all the talking animal characters - it makes me wish my dog Rufus could talk too! Although I guess he kind of does with his barks and tail wags. Animals are just the best. Myfavorite Narnian creature is probably the beavers though. Mr. Beaver is so wise and brave, and Mrs. Beaver is the mom friend who makes sure everyone is fed and taken care of. Although the painting of Aslan where he is this HUGE lion is really incredible too.Another great thing about the book is how it deals with serious topics like war and sacrifice, but in a way kids can understand. When Aslan has to die on the Stone Table to save Edmund, it's so tragic but beautiful at the same time. Aslan knows he has to make this sacrifice to protect the innocent and defeat evil. It makes me cry every time I read it! But then when he comes back to life, it's one of the most joyous, triumphant moments ever. C.S. Lewis did an amazing job writing that whole section.I also really appreciate the Christian themes and allegories throughout Narnia, although they never feel preachy to me. For example, Aslan is basically the Jesus figure who guides and protects the children. And his death and resurrection has obvious parallels to Jesus dying for humanity's sins then rising again. But it's woven so seamlessly into this incredible fantasy world that it doesn't feel heavy-handed at all. Lucy's character inparticular really resonates with me and her steadfast faith in Aslan even when others doubt him.I could honestly go on and on about how much I adore The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It's my #1 comfort book that I reread over and over again. The writing is so vivid and engaging, the world is bursting with creativity and imagination, the characters are unforgettable, and the themes about love, family, sacrifice and doing the right thing resonate so powerfully. Even though I've read it like 20 times already, I know I'll keep coming back to this book for the rest of my life.No matter how old I get, The Chronicles of Narnia will forever hold a special place in my heart. This is where Wilbur meets Charlotte, a brave and intelligent spider. Charlotte decides she has to save Wilbur's life because the farmers plan to kill him at the end of the summer. So using her spider web, she weaves amazing words like "Some Pig" and "Terrific" to make the farmers think Wilbur is too special to kill. It's all so clever!The best part is the beautiful friendship between Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider. Even though they're completely different animals, they truly care about each other. When Charlotte gets very old and sick from saving Wilbur's life, it's one of the saddest parts of the book. But then Charlotte's childrenare born and Wilbur looks after them just like Charlotte looked after him. It's a story all about love, loyalty, and friendship lasting forever.I just adore Charlotte's Web for so many reasons! First of all, the animal characters are incredibly real and easy to care about, especially Wilbur with his childlike wonder and Charlotte with her wisdom and quick wit. Whenever I read the book, I feel just as devoted to them as Fern does. I want to run into the story and give them both a big hug!Then there's the simple but charming writing style that makes you feel warm and happy inside. E.B. White has a way with words that paints such vivid pictures in your mind of life on the farm, from the cozy barn cellar to the misty morning meadows. His descriptions are pure poetry yet easy for kids to understand.I also love all the little life lessons sprinkled throughout the story, like being a true friend even when it's hard, appreciating the miracle of birth and new life, and treasuring each day because life is short.
