The research also showed that half of 14 to 24yearolds were happy to share all the music on their hard drives, enabling others to copy hundreds,or thousands,of songs at one time.Although_illegal_copying_has_become_widespread,the_scale_of_the_problem_uncovered_by_the_University_Hertford shire_left_the_music_industry_surprised.On average every iPod or digital music player contained 842 illegally copied songs.Illegal copying in some form or another is undertaken by 96 percent of 18 to 24yearolds surveyed, and falls to 89 percent of those aged 14~17.Nearly twothirds copy CDs from friends, and similar proportion shares songs by email and copy all the music held on another person’s hard drive, acquiring up to 10,000 songs in one go. British Music Rights argues that the solution partly lies in developing new legal services that make breaking copyright unappealing(无吸引力的).Mr.Sharkey,chief executive of British Music Rights, said,“The positive message is that 80 percent of downloaders said they would pay for a legal subscriptionbased(签署协议的)service, and that theywould be willing to pay more than a few pounds month.”British Music Rights refused to release the exact amount but it is believed to be about £10 a month. The organization is trying to help to record companies persuade Internet service providers to sign up to a new type of music service,in which vast catalogues of songs are available for an addon fee to a broadband package.Agreements with providers such as Virgin Media are expected in the next few weeks. In France last week,Orange,France Telecom’s mobile arm, reached agreement with all four main record companies to provide downloads of more than a million songs for mobile phones and home computers for £9.40 a month.1.What is the passage main about?A.The popularity of music among teenagers and college students. This is a joint project of two organizations, the Global Crop Diversity Trust and the United Nations Foundation. It will be the largest such effort ever made. The aim is to collect seeds or reproductive material from one hundred sixtyfive thousand varieties of the crops. The effort will secure more than ninetyfive percent of the endangered crop diversity represented in gene banks in developing countries. The fight against hunger cannot be won without securing crops that are in danger of being lost. Many of the crops are known as “orphan crops ”. Orphan crops do not get much attention from modern plant breeders but are especially important in poor countries. Some orphan crops cannot be grown from seeds. Instead, cuttings, roots and cell cultures will be gathered from gene banks.Still another goal is to improve communications between farmers and plant breeders. The organizers say they look forward to a time when breeders in Africa can find the same crop genetic information as those in Europe and North America. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has agreed to provide thirty million dollars for the project. Norway will provide seven and one-half million dollars. The Global Crop Diversity Trust says at least four hundred fifty thousand seed samples will go into the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Seeds from around the world will be stored there in case the planet suffers a terrible disaster.Title:1. ______ ProjectProject Two 2.______ PurposeThe Global Crop Diversity Trust and the United Nations Foundation. Low quality soil is not the only reason why land could be considered marginal. The land might be in an area where rainfall is limited. Or it might be on a hillside that rises too sharply.Yet there are uses for marginal land. Most often it is used as grassland. Grasses provide excellent feed for grazing animals (草食动物) like cattle, sheep and goats. A farmer might use native grasses or nonnative seed. No matter what way he uses, it is important to establish good ground cover to avoid the loss of soil through erosion(侵蚀).But using marginal land for grazing is not as simple as it mightsound. There is a risk of overgrazing. Cattle can damage crops by eating down to the roots. Also, the animals crash the soil with their weight. That can make the ground too hard for growing. A way to reduce the damage is to move animals from one field to another. This method is known as rotational(循环的) grazing. Agricultural experts say rotational grazing is extremely important for marginal land.Another use for marginal land is for tree crops. Studies have shown that the loblolly pine ( 火炬松) and white pine are two kinds of trees that grow well on such land. They grow fast and provide good quality wood. And there are slowergrowing trees like the black walnut (胡桃) that provide wood as well as a nut crop. Trees help support the soil. They reduce the damaging effects of wind and rain. Traditional robots have limbs and torsos(躯干)powered by heavy motors at the joints. However in Kojiro, the motors are lightweight and used to pull cables attached to different locations on the body. This copies how our own muscles and tendons(腱)contract and relax when we move. The skillful system of around 100 such tendonmuscle structures work together to give Kojiro 60 degrees of freedom. The humanoid is also made mostly from light and flexible materials, which would make him less of a danger around the home. The researchers found the most difficult challenge was finding a way to make such a skillful robot walk.“The system has strong nonlinearity(非连续性)and is hard to model precisely. To control such a system,a kind of learning method is needed,”the team wrote. At present the scientists are testing Kojiro’s smaller movements using a games console controller. The team plan to slightly improve the computer algorithms(算法)that control the robot’s movements as they go and hope it will one day be able to handle complex movements using all of its limbs. Then perhaps one day,you will find Kojiro serving you breakfast in bed.1.What is the text mainly about?A.The differences between the tradition robots and the humanoid. B.Introduction to a new type of humanoid.C.How to improve the traditional robot.D.The humanoid will be on market soon.2.What makes the humanoid unique?A.Its long limbs.B.Its strong ability of copying.C.Its materials.D.Its skeletal structure.3.What is the biggest challenge to the humanoid at present? A.How to make it walk.B.How to make it speak.C.How to make it do housework.D.How to make it sing.4.Which of the following is NOT the reason why the humanoid can’t be suitable for working in human’s daily environment?A.Lack of safety. B.Fewer uses.C.Its overweight. D.Damaging objects.5.What can we learn from the text?A.Scientists in Japan have solved the humanoid’s movement. B.The humanoid is used to take care of the old.C.The humanoid can use all of its limbs to handle complex movements.D.It’ll be a long time before the humanoid is on market.。

Popeye the Sailor first became a popular cartoon in the 1930s.The sailor in that cartoon ate lots of spinach to make him strong. People watched him, and they began to buy and eat a lot more spinach. Popeye helped sell 33 percent more spinach than before! Spinach became a necessary part of many peopl e’s diets. Even some children who hated the taste began to eat the vegetable. Many people thought that the iron in spinach made Popeye strong, but this is not true. Spinach does not have any more iron than any other green vegetable.People only thought spinach had a lot of iron because the people who studied the food made a mistake. In the 1890s, a group of people studied what was inside vegetables. This group said that spinach had ten times more iron than it did. The group wrote the number wrong, and everyone accepted it.Today, we know that the little iron there is in spinach cannot make a difference in how strong a person is. However, spinach does have something else which the body needs—folic acid.It is interesting to point out that folic acid can help make a person strong. Maybe it was really the folic acid that made Popeye strong all along.36. A good title for this reading passage is______.A. Popeye the SailorB. The Truth About SpinachC.A Mistake with NumbersD.
