我国古代的读书人，从上学之日起，就日诵不辍，一般在几年内就能识记几千个汉字，熟记几百篇文章，写出的诗文也是字斟句酌，琅琅上口，成为满腹经纶的文人。
为什么在现代化教学的今天，我们念了十几年书的高中毕业生甚至大学生，竟提起作文就头疼，写不出像样的文章呢?吕叔湘先生早在1978年就尖锐地提出:“中小学语文教学效果差，中学语文毕业生语文水平低，……十几年上课总时数是9160课时，语文是2749课时，恰好是30%，十年的时间，二千七百多课时，用来学本国语文，却是大多数不过关，岂非咄咄怪事!”寻根究底，其主要原因就是腹中无物。
特别是写议论文，初中水平以上的学生都知道议论文的“三要素”是论点、论据、论证，也通晓议论文的基本结构:提出问题――分析问题――解决问题，但真正动起笔来就犯难了。
知道“是这样”，就是讲不出“为什么”。
根本原因还是无“米”下“锅”。
于是便翻开作文集锦之类的书大段抄起来，抄人家的名言警句，抄人家的事例，不参考作文书就很难写出像样的文章。
所以，词汇贫乏、内容空洞、千篇一律便成了中学生作文的通病。
要解决这个问题，不能单在布局谋篇等写作技方面下功夫，必须认识到“死记硬背”的重要性，让学生积累足够的“米”。
2. Ask some students to read their composition.
课本、报刊杂志中的成语、名言警句等俯首皆是，但学生写作文运用到文章中的甚少，即使运用也很难做到恰如其分。
为什么?还是没有彻底“记死”的缘故。
要解决这个问题，方法很简单，每天花3-5分钟左右的时间记一条成语、一
则名言警句即可。
可以写在后黑板的“积累专栏”上每日一换，可以在每天课前的3分钟让学生轮流讲解，也可让学生个人搜集，每天往笔记本上抄写，教师定期检查等等。
这样，一年就可记300多条成语、300多则名言警句，日积月累，终究会成为一笔不小的财富。
这些成语典故“贮藏”在学生脑中，自然会出口成章，写作时便会随心所欲地“提取”出来，使文章增色添辉。
教学反思：本节课是第三课时，主要学习内容是culture time、cartoon time and checkout time中的think and write。
我围绕weekends展开教学，首先谈论Suhai、Mike and Helend 的周末，这是对storytime部分的复习，接着谈论学生自己的周末活动，对本单元的重点句型进行口头练习。
通过三个男生展示自己的周末活动，学生通过朗读短文，归纳出Football is very popular in the UK. Basketball is very popular in the US. Table tennis is very popular in China。
然后通过Billy的周末活动怎么样这个问题，进入cartoon time的学习。
最后围绕本节课的内容，写写自己和朋友的周末。
整节课的思路清晰，教学环节清晰简洁，本节的重点处理到位，学生学习扎实，掌握效果比较理想。
本节还有一点值得肯定，课堂上学生非常投入，能完全融入课堂，听讲认真，发言积极，思维很活跃，小组活动张弛有度，集体朗读音量适中，语音语调模仿准确；分角色表演的时候分工明确，练习认真，能根据情景合理地融入自己的语言，上台表演展示的积极性非常高。
死记硬背是一种传统的教学方式，在我国有悠久的历史。
但随着素质教育的开展，死记硬背被作为一种僵化的、阻碍学生能力发展的教学方式，渐渐为人们所摒弃；而另一方面，老师们又为提高学生的语文素养煞费苦心。
其实，只要应用得当，“死记硬背”与提高学生素质并不矛盾。
相反，它恰是提高学生语文水平的重要前提和基础。
上完之后，发现这节课还有很多地方可以做得更好。
例如
在学生表演的时候，教师可以提供篮球、游泳圈和午餐篮等道具，这样学生的表演可以更生动。
还有如果在culture time板块处理节奏再紧凑一些的话，那么后面表演和写作的时间可以更充分一些。
最重要的是，从课堂学生的表达看，学生很多时候对动词第三人称单数形式的运用还不够熟练和正确，接下的教学中要反复练习，多说多读多听多写，帮助学生尽早掌握。
