Here are some helpful tips on how to believe in yourself more.16 Don’t listen to what others tell you unless it’s positive. When you know someone respects or likes you, be happy. You can also ask them what it is about you that they like. This will prove the best parts of you and help you believe in yourself. Some of us may find it more difficult to take in positive feedback(反馈) than negative one, and that needs to change.Remember your last (or greatest) success, and think about it for a few minutes. Reviewing your past successes will help you reach for others. Quite simply, it reminds you that you have the talent and tools needed to get your life to the next level. 17 Picture your greatest success so far, and then imagine the goal you are going for.Know that you are the person your loved ones think you are. It goes for your dog, too. 18 You are expected to pull yourself up when you feel down. All that’s required is to feel the love that’s all around you. Start with one person (or your dog), and feel the difference. If you have succeeded before, you can do it again. Maybe not in the same way, but you can reach the same level of influence and fulfillment. Nothing feels quite the same as being on stage and having several thousand people call your name, but other things can feel good too. 19These guidelines in how to believe in yourself do work, but don’t try doing them all at once. 20 You will be pleased with the results and with yourself.A.Take in positive feedback.B.Be happy towards what others tell you.C.Go for what you want, no matter what it is.D.Forming a picture in your mind also helps here.E.When feeling down, it can be so easy to beat yourself up.F.Concentrating on the love you get from others helps you feel good about yourself.G.Start with the one that’s easiest for you and stick with it for a week or so before trying other exercises. 核心短语1.behind the scenes在后台,在幕后2.not to mention更不用说,且不说3.do justice to 恰当处理(某人或某事) 4.in addition to除……以外(还)5.a huge amount of大量的6.be familiar with对……熟悉7.attach importance to认为……意义重大8.to begin with首先9.contribute to有助于;促成;造成10.for oneself亲自11.pull up停车,停止12.do one’s best尽某人最大努力13.be typical of典型的,特有的14.wave to sb.向某人挥手15.cure sb.of sth.治好某人的某种疾病16.look around四处张望17.next to紧挨着18.put...out伸出19.from that day on从那天开始20.peas and carrots形影不离一、1. aiding 2. prefer 3. actually 4. revise 5. scenes6. ensure7. enable8. fantasy9. creative10. factors二、1. in 2. to 3. Some children even deliberately choose to go against their parents’ will. Several reasons may account for the conflict.First of all, children want to be free to choose their own friends, plan their own future, and run their own life in a more independent way than many parents allow. Also, young children desire to be understood by their parents, which most parents fail to do. Parents, on the other hand, expect too much of their children. They want their children to behave and have good academic performance at school. In my opinion, most problems between parents and children will disappear through joint efforts of both sides. Only with more communication and mutual respect can this problem be finally solved.录音原文:Text 1M: I was looking for a book, but I couldn’t find it on the shelf.W: Oh, somebody must have borrowed that book.Text 2W: Hello, is this Mr. Wu?M: Yes, hello, Jane.W: One of my relatives is sending a package from Japan to me and asking for my address, but I don’t know it. So I’m calling to ask you.Text 3M: I’ve got two tickets for the film. Would you like to go with me?W: I’m sorry. I’m afraid not.M: Why?W: A patient has just arrived. He was badly hurt in a traffic accident. He is due to be operated on at once.Text 4M: The car was a total loss. Did you see it?W: Yes. Can you imagine three women and a baby were in the horrible accident without being hurt?Text 5M: Excuse me, how much are the tickets?W: They’re ten dollars each for the general public, but students’ tickets are half price. How many tickets do you want?Text 6W: What was that? Did you hear that? I think it came from over there, by Greg’s tent.M: Come on, Rachel. You’re just being silly. There’s nothing there. Go back to sleep.W: I am not! I know I heard something. What if it’s a wolf?M: There is no wolf out there, Rachel. We’re camping near a lake. You might run into an angry duck… at worst.W: Ducks aren’t that big. Whatever made that noise was huge. I know it.M: Come on, Rachel. It’s probably just all in your imagination. You’ve been driving all day to get here, so just get some rest.W: Well, I guess you’re right. I’ll feel better after a good night’s sleep.Text 7M: Hey, come on in.W: Thanks.M: I just made myself some coffee. Do you want some?W: No, thanks. I already had one this morning. But I like your kitchen.M: Thanks. I just painted it. So, I heard you have a pretty cool new job.W: Yeah, I am working for a company that does all kinds of special events.M: Oh, yeah? Like what?W: Well, at the moment, I’m helping to organize the birthday party for the owner of Air India. We’ll be flying in some musici ans from Las Vegas to perform at the party next Monday.M: Wow, really? That sounds pretty expensive.W: It will be! We’re renting out a huge space for the event. We’ll be spending 10000 dollars on flowers, 25000 dollars on food, and 20000 dollars on drinks.M: That sounds crazy. So, what will you do at the party?W: Oh, I’ll just be there to make sure everything goes smoothly.Text 8W: Andy was acting kind of crazy today. Did you notice?M: Yeah, he’s under a lot of stress. There was a problem with the p roject in Paris.W: Well, working for him has its ups and downs, but today wasn’t pleasant.M: I know. He’s not the best boss, but he’s OK, I think. Anyway, what are you going to buy here? W: Well. I’m going to get these lamb chops, I think. The sign says they’re on sale.M: Oh, you shouldn’t get them. You should get this other brand instead.W: Really? Why?M: The label says these lamb chops come from New Zealand. We’re here in London, which ispretty far away! It’s not good for the environment to eat foo d that has to travel so far. A lot of energy is wasted and a lot of pollution is created to get it here.W: Well, I can see what you mean. This other brand is cheaper, anyway, and it’s from lambs raised in the UK.M: I always try to buy local foods –they’re fresher, and they support the local economy…Text 9M: Now Mrs. Jones, it seems you’ve put on quite a bit since last month. Have you been following the diet sheet I gave you?W: Yes, doctor… Well, most of the time. But I get really hungry late in t he evening sometimes, and I just have to have an extra snack before bedtime.M: Late night snacks, huh? What kind of snacks?W: Cookies usually. But just a small pack… usually.M: Right. And what about exercise? Have you been exercising properly?W: Well, I wanted to, but the weather’s been so bad these last few weeks…M: Mrs. Jones, you’re at least 40 kilos overweight, and it’s seriously damaging your health. You also have dangerously high blood pressure. You must follow the diet sheet carefully every day.No snacks, and no food at all after 7:00 p.m. And you really must try to exercise a little bit every day.Text 10Hi, my name is Ross, and I study at Oxford University. I go to the university gym about two to three times a week. My main reasons for going are to keep healthy and to lose weight. But it’s also great fun. The gym has a good atmosphere: there’s music, TV, magazines, newspapers and friendly people. I usually go on my own, but I always meet friends there, and we chat and relax after we’ve worked out.I usually run on a machine to warm up. After that, I use the weight machines a lot. I’m trying to build my arm and chest muscles. I want to look good as well as keep healthy. After taking exercise at the gym, I always feel really good. I feel more energetic and positive about life and I can focus better on my work too. So the benefits of going to the gym aren’t only physical but mental.。

(11)Unit 2 Sports culture 高二英语牛津译林版 寒假作业(含答案)
(11)Unit 2 Sports culture一、阅读理解1. Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport's rules require that a race walker's knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It's this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says. According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would bum about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would bum walking, although fewer than running, which would probably bum about 1,000 or more calories per hour. However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner's knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport's strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice.1.Why are race walkers conditioned athletes?A.They must run long distances.B.They are qualified for the marathon.C.They have to follow special rules.D.They are good at swinging their legs.2.What advantage does race walking have over running?A.It's more popular at the Olympics.B.It's less challenging physically.C.It's more effective in body building.D.It's less likely to cause knee injuries.3.What is Dr. Norberg's suggestion for someone trying race walking?A.Getting experts' opinions.B.Having a medical checkup.C.Hiring an experienced coach.D.Doing regular exercises.4.Which word best describes the authors attitude to race walking?A.Skeptical.B.Objective.C.Tolerant.D.Conservative.2. I started playing football when I was 7 or 8 years old after my brothers had agreed to let their little sister join in their games. I am from a very small town and at that time no other girls played football in my town. People said football wasn't for women and that my family shouldn't let me play. They also said I wouldn't make it, and that I wasn't good enough. As a child, I didn't really understand why people were so against me playing when I could play it well! I fought back by showing my talent (天赋) on the streets. My greatest inspiration was my mother. We came from a poor family; my mom raised four children on her own. She worked all day, and had little time to spend with us, but she never gave up. I found my strength from her to keep going.Every win is important for me, from the time when I was playing in amateur teams among the boys to the first win as part of the national team. And now I remember the day when I went back to my town in 2006 after winning the award for the best female player in the world. When I arrived, it was nearly midnight and the whole town was awake, waiting for me. I got into a fireman's truck and people were waving. The achievement could happen because I hadn't given up the first moment I heard a "no".Sport changed my life completely. It gave me the chance to help my family, meet other people, see other countries and experience other cultures. Sport is a tool for girls because it gives you the chance to do what you want and learn to respect the differences between people. For me, it is a great honour to be a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Today, I am here to use my story to inspire many more girls and women and to create chances so that next generations don't have to go through what I have experienced.1.What was the author's family's attitude towards her playing football at first?A. They supported it.B. They were uncertain about it.C. They were strongly against it.D. They thought it must be painful.2.What happened to the author when she returned home in 2006?A. She learned to say no for the first time.B. She had little time to spend with her family.C. She got a chance to play for the national team.D. She was warmly welcomed by the whole town.3.Which of the following words can best describe the author?A. Creative.B. Humorous.C. Strong-willed.D. Responsible.4.What does the author call on girls and women to do?A. Play football just like her.B. Try their best to see the outside world.C. Trust themselves and do what they want.D. Value the happy hours with their families.3. Dolphins appear to make a tasty meal for many predators(捕食性动物). And why? With an exceptionally high fat content, dolphins provide great nutrition for predators who track throughout the ocean. However, dolphins are more troublesome than it's worth and most predators generally learn to avoid dolphin groups, including sharks. Like elephants, dolphins will circle protectively around the weak members of the group, and attack anything that approaches in a threatening manner. And they can kill sharks. Most predators take one look, and then just swim away.Dolphins don't worry a lot about being eaten. In general, their only real predator is the shark, and even then only the larger species of sharks dare to attack dolphins. Dolphins have evolved(进化) over a long time to be pretty tough, so in general even the most dangerous sharks stay away from them. Dolphin parts have been found in the bellies of killer whales, who will eat just about anything. In fact, dolphins and killer whales team up sometimes to catch some prey.As with most edible(可以食用的) species today, the most dangerous threat is man. Sometimes, dolphins are killed not because they are a source of food, but because they prey on the same fish species as humans. Therefore, many fishermen have killed dolphins specifically because they think dolphins will min their catch.Even more, there are some countries that eat cetaceans, including dolphins. In Japan, themeat of some dolphin species is seen as a delicacy, and can cost up to $ 25 a pound. In Peru and many other Latin American countries where the ocean has been largely short of fish due to overfishing or environmental conditions such as El Niño, fishermen have turned to catch dolphins and porpoises to sell in fish markets.1.What can we learn from the first paragraph?A.No ocean animals can attack dolphins.B.Dolphins are not easy to deal with.C.Dolphins often kill sharks.D.Dolphins are quite low in fat.2.What does the underlined part in the passage mean?A.People have ever found the evidence of killer whales eating dolphins.B.Dolphins and killer whales have something in common concerning bellies.C.Dolphins and killer whales join hands to hunt and feed.D.Dolphins and killer whales are not similar in bellyparts.3.Which is one of the reasons why dolphins are killed according to Para. 3?A.The number of dolphins is too large.B.Dolphins are more delicious than other species.C.Dolphins compete with humans on the same fish species.D.Dolphins' meat is the main economic source for some fishermen.4.Why do the Japanese kill dolphins?A.Dolphins cause overfishing.B.Dolphins affect their way of living.C.Dolphins are a source of delicious food.D.There are not so many fish in the ocean as before.4. There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle, or take a bus. But no matter which way we choose, we have to stick to the route the city planners laid down for us.Parkour enthusiasts (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground. The International Gymnastics Federation has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it—there are about 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian —and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination and balance. So the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the Olympics. But parkour enthusiasts themselves don't seem to be happy with the idea. They see parkour as a lifestyle. In their view, it's a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport.Indeed, many do parkour just to "escape the daily routine and experience the city in different ways", wrote Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure. It's great that the International Gymnastics Federation wants to develop a new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.1.How do parkour enthusiasts do parkour?A.They move as they wish.B.They plan the routes of the city.C.They run faster than others.D.They stick to certain routes.2.Why does the International Gymnastics Federation want to add parkour to the Olympics?A.Because it draws their attention.B.Because it helps people to build up their body.C.Because that's what parkour enthusiasts argue for.D.Because they think it needs rules and instructions.3.What is the author's view on parkour?A.It can be recognized as a competition.B.It calls on people to work as a team.C.It's worth adding to the sporting events.D.It is a way of life rather than a competition.4.What is the best title for the passage?A.A new sports competitionB.Parkour enthusiastsC.Training in a different wayD.Making the city their own二、七选五5.阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

However, their textbooks are still in good condition. If we just ignore them, it is a great waste of money. Some people suggest that we should recycle the text-books and I quite agree with them, For one thing, there are millions of students studying in university, middle school and primary school in China. It needs a lot of paper made from wood to print new textbooks. If the graduates leave their old textbooks for the new comers, a great many trees can avoid being cutting down. For another thing, making paper can cause huge pollution. Therefore, saving paper is an effective way to protect the environment. In addition, there are still many people in China living in poverty. The cost for new textbooks is a heavy burden for these poor students. Last but not least, some foreign countries, such as Australia has set a good example for us.In a word, we should pay more attention to protect our environment. And we can try our best to take part in the campaign.。

But they weren't there to throw red paint on fur-coat-wearing film stars. Instead, one activist, dressed in a full-body monkey suit, had arrived with a sign praising the filmmakers: "Thanks for not using real(猿)!"The creative team behind "Apes" used motion-capture(动作捕捉)technology to create digitalized animals, spending tens of millions of dollars on technology that records an actor's performance and later processes it with computer graphics to create a final image(图像). In this case, one of a realistic-looking ape.Yet "Apes" is more exception than the rule. In fact, Hollywood has been hot on live animals lately. One nonprofit organization, which monitors the treatment of animals in filmed entertainment, is keeping tabs on more than 2,000 productions this year. Already, a number of films, including "Water for Elephants," "The Hangover Part Ⅱ" and "Zookeeper," have drawn the anger of activists who say the creatures acting in them haven't been treated properly. In some cases, it's not so much the treatment of the animals on set in the studio that has activists worried; it's the off-set training and living conditions that are raising concerns. And there are questions about the films made outside the States, which sometimes are not monitored as closely as productions filmed in the States.1.Why did the animal activists gather on Hollywood Boulevard?A.To see famous film stars.B.To oppose wearing fur coats.C.To raise money for animal protection.D.To express thanks to some filmmakers.2.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?A.The cost of making "Apes."B.The creation of digitalized apes.C.The publicity about "Apes."D.The performance of real apes.3.What does the underlined phrase "keeping tabs on" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A.Listing completely.B.Directing professionally.C.Promoting successfully.D.Watching carefully.4.What can we infer from the last paragraph about animal actors?A.They may be badly treated.B.They should take further training.C.They could be traded illegally.D.They would lose popularity.CRace walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. Norberg's suggestion for someone trying race walking?A.Getting experts' opinions.B.Having a medical checkup.C.Hiring an experienced coach.D.Doing regular exercises.4.Which word best describes the authors attitude to race walking?A.Skeptical.B.Objective.C.Tolerant.D.Conservative.DFor those who can stomach it, working out before breakfast may be more beneficial for health than eating first, according to a study of meal timing and physical activity.Athletes and scientists have long known that meal timing affects performance. However, far less has been known about how meal timing and exercise might affect general health. To find out, British scientists conducted a study. They first found 10 overweight and inactive but otherwise healthy young men, whose lifestyles are, for better and worse, representative of those of most of us. They tested the men's fitness and resting(新陈代谢的) rates and took samples(样品) their blood and fat tissue. Then, on two separate morning visits to the scientists' lab, each man walked for an hour at an average speed that, in theory, should allow his body to rely mainly on fat for fuel. Before one of these workouts, the men skipped breakfast, meaning that they exercised on a completely empty stomach after a long overnight fast(禁食期). On the other occasion, they ate a rich morning meal about two hours before they started walking.Just before and an hour after each workout, the scientists took additional samples of the men's blood and fat tissue. Then they compared the samples. There were considerable differences. Most obviously, the men displayed lower blood sugar levels at the start of their workouts when they had skipped breakfast than when they had eaten. As a result, they burned more fat during walks on an emptystomach than when they had eaten first. On the other hand, they burned slightly more calories(卡路里), on average, during the workout after breakfast than after fasting. But it was the effects deep within the fat cells that may have been the most significant, the researchers found. Multiple genes behaved differently, depending on whether someone had eaten or not before walking. Many of these genes produce proteins (蛋白质) that can improve blood sugar regulation and insulin(胰岛素) levels throughout the body and so are associated with improved metabolic health. These genes were much more active when the men had fasted before exercise than when they had breakfasted. The implication of these results is that to gain the greatest health benefits from exercise, it may be wise to skip eating first.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
