心理学专业英语讲稿1-什么是心理学whatispsychology第一篇:心理学专业英语讲稿1-什么是心理学what is psychology English for Psychology(心理学专业英语)Perspectives in Psychology(心理学纵览)What is psychology ? The word “Psychology” is derived from two Greek roots: “Psyche”, meaning “mind” or “soul” and “Logos”, meaning “study of”.

Psychology, therefore, literally means “study of the mind”.

However,a more recent definition by Atkinson et al(1991)suggests that psychology is:“The scientific study of behaviour and mental processes”

)Just giving this simple definition, however, is a bit misleading, since psychologists now and throughout their history have not only disagreed about the definition of psychology but have also strongly disagreed about what should be studied in the subject and how it should be studied.

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is a great honor to stand before you today to share my thoughts on the universal language of psychology and its significance in our interconnected world. Psychology, as ascientific discipline, has the power to transcend cultural boundaries and provide insights into the human condition that are both timeless and universally applicable.Let us begin by acknowledging that psychology is not a discipline confined to any one country or culture. Its principles and theories have been developed and refined through the collaborative efforts of scholars from all corners of the globe. From Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis in Austria to Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in the United States, the field of psychology has been enriched by diverse perspectives and experiences. One of the most compelling reasons for studying psychology globally is its ability to address universal human experiences. Whether we are in Japan, Brazil, or the United States, we all experience emotions, face challenges, and strive for fulfillment. Psychology helps us understand these experiences and provides us with tools to navigate through them. For instance, the concept of resilience, which refers to the ability to bounce back from adversity, is a universal theme that resonates across cultures. In today's globalized world, it is crucial to recognize that psychological well-being is not just an individual concern but a collective one. As we witness the rapid pace of technological advancements and the shrinking of the world through social media, it is more important than ever to foster empathy, compassion, and understanding among people from different backgrounds. Psychology, with its focus on human behavior and mental processes, serves as a bridgethat connects us all.Let us explore some key areas where the universal language of psychology can be applied:1. Mental Health: Mental health issues are prevalent worldwide, and understanding the psychological factors that contribute to mental disorders is essential. By studying the mental health landscape across cultures, we can develop more effective interventions and treatment strategies that are inclusive and culturally sensitive.2. Education: Education systems around the world face similar challenges, such as dropout rates, academic stress, and the need for inclusive classrooms. By applying psychological principles to educational practices, we can create more supportive and effective learning environments for all students.3. Workplaces: The global workforce is diverse, and understanding the psychological factors that affect employee performance, job satisfaction, and organizational culture is crucial for creating harmonious and productive work environments.4. Conflict Resolution: Psychology can play a vital role in conflict resolution by promoting empathy, communication, and negotiation skills. By applying psychological theories to international relations, we can contribute to building a more peaceful world. As we continue to explore the universal language of psychology, it is essential to remember that while the core principles may remain constant, the context in which they are applied may vary. Cultural factors, social norms, and individual differences must be taken into account when applying psychological theories and interventions. In conclusion, psychology is a discipline that speaks to the human condition, regardless of geographical or cultural boundaries. By embracing the universal aspects of psychology, we can work together to address the challenges that face our world today and build a more compassionate, understanding, and inclusive future.Thank you for your attention, and I invite you to join me in thisjourney of discovering the universal language of psychology and its power to transform lives and societies.[Applause]。

Preface
Authors’ views:
➢ In real life, faces are rarely encountered in isolation, and the context in which they appear is often very informative;
➢ The results of early researches (e.g.,Trope,1986;Nakamura et al.,1990;Carroll & Russell,1996) proved inconsistent ,furthermore, the relevance of those studies to the perception of facial expressions is indirect at best, because participants were asked not to describe the emotion expressed in the face, but rather to attribute emotion to the target person;
Experiment1
Aim:To examine if the perceptual similarity
between facial expressions affects viewers’ susceptibility to contextual influences in categorizing the expressions, based on the discretecategory view. Hypothesis:contextual effects might rely on the similarity between the target facial expression and the facial expression typically associated with the affective context.

Ladies and gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is my great honor to stand before you today and share my thoughts on a topic that is of paramount importanceto us all – mental health. In recent years, mental health has gained significant attention, and for good reasons. However, despite thegrowing awareness, there is still much to be done to understand, address, and destigmatize mental health issues.First and foremost, let us define what mental health is. Mental health refers to a state of well-being in which an individual can realize their own abilities, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively, and contribute to their community. It is not merely the absence ofmental illness but a holistic approach to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.As we delve into the topic, it is crucial to acknowledge that mental health issues affect people of all ages, genders, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are not a sign of weakness but rather a reflection of the complex nature of human experience. Mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, are prevalent and can have devastating consequences ifleft untreated. The first step towards addressing mental health issues is to recognize the signs and symptoms. Some common indicators include:1. Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness2. Irritability, anger, or mood swings3. Changes in sleep patterns, such as insomnia or oversleeping4. Changes in appetite or weight5. Loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable6. Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions7. Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems without a clear physical cause8. Feelings of restlessness or being tense9. Avoiding social interactions or withdrawal from relationships10. Increased substance abuse, such as alcohol or drug useIt is essential to remember that experiencing these symptoms does not necessarily mean one has a mental health disorder. However, if these symptoms persist and interfere with daily life, it is crucial to seek help from a mental health professional. Now, let us discuss the factors that contribute to mental health issues. These factors can be categorized into three main groups: biological, psychological, and social.1. Biological factors: Genetics, brain chemistry, and brain structure can all contribute to mental health disorders. For example, individuals with a family history of mental illness are more likely to develop a mental health disorder themselves.2. Psychological factors: Life experiences, such as trauma, abuse, or neglect, can have a significant impact on mental health. Additionally, negative thoughts and beliefs can contribute to the development of mental health disorders.3. Social factors: Social support, economic status, and cultural background can all play a role in mental health. For instance, individuals who lack social support or live in poverty may be more vulnerable to mental health issues. It is essential to understand that mental health issues are treatable. Treatment options include therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, and support groups. Therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), can help individuals develop coping skills and change negative thought patterns. Medication, such as antidepressants or antipsychotics, can help regulate brain chemistry. Lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep, can also improve mental health. Lastly, support groups can provide individuals with a sense of community and understanding. As we strive to address mental health issues, it is crucial to break down the stigma associated with mental illness. Stigma can prevent individuals from seeking help, leading to worsening symptoms and long-term consequences. To combat stigma, we must:1. Educate ourselves and others about mental health issues2. Speak openly about mental health in our daily lives3. Support individuals with mental health issues without judgment4. Advocate for mental health policies and resourcesIn conclusion, mental health is a critical aspect of our well-being that deserves our attention and care. By understanding the signs and symptoms, recognizing the contributing factors, and seeking appropriate treatment, we can overcome mental health issues and live fulfilling lives. Let us work together to create a society that is compassionate, supportive, and inclusive of all individuals, regardless of their mental health status.Thank you for your time and attention.。

The Fascinating World of Psychology.Ladies and Gentlemen,。

Today, I am delighted to delve into the vast and fascinating world of psychology. A subject that delves deep into the complexities of the human mind, psychology has always been a fascinating field, one that continues to captivate and challenge scholars and enthusiasts alike. At its core, psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. It explores the inner workings of the human mind, the reasons behind our actions, and the influences that shape our thoughts and emotions. Whether it's understanding the psychology behind addiction, exploring the dynamics of relationships, or studying the cognitive processes involved in decision-making, psychology offers insights into the diverse and often complex human experience. One of the most fascinating aspects of psychology isits interdisciplinary nature. It intersects with various fields, such as sociology, neuroscience, anthropology, and psychiatry, to provide a holistic understanding of human behavior. For instance, sociological psychology explores how social factors influence individual behavior, while neurobiological psychology studies the neurobiological mechanisms underlying psychological processes. Moreover, psychology is not just about theoretical concepts and academic discussions. It has practical applications in our daily lives. Counseling, psychotherapy, and behavioral interventions are just a few examples of how psychology can be used to address real-world issues. Whether it's helping someone overcome anxiety, guiding a child with autism, or assisting a family in conflict resolution, the principles and techniques of psychology play a crucial role. The field of psychology is also constantly evolving. With the advent of new technologies and research methods, psychologists are now able to delve deeper into the mysteries of the mind. For instance, neuroimagingtechniques like MRI and PET scans allow us to visualizebrain activity and gain insights into the neurobiological correlates of psychological phenomena. Similarly, behavioral genetics is helping us understand the genetic basis of psychological traits and disorders. Moreover, with the increasing focus on mental healthand well-being, psychology has become even more relevant in today's world. Experiment1
Bonferroni-corrected pairanger-, sadness-, and fear-context conditions confirmed that in every case, decreasing similarity was associated with a decrease in the tendency to miscategorize the facial expression as representing the context’s emotion (rather than disgust; all ps < .01, prep = 0 .95);

〃Lewis et al.

(Focus Groups)
