Jadav Payeng is a forestry worker from Jorhat, India. Over the course of several decades

he has planted and tended trees on a sandbar of the river Brahmaputra, turning it into a forest

of about 1, 360 acres. The forest, called Molai forest after him, is one of the most unusual woodlands in the world for the unbelievable fact that it was planted single-handedly. It now houses Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros, and over 1o0 deer and rabbits. several varieties of Birds.

In 1979. Payeng, then 16, witnessed a large number of snakes that had died due to extreme heat after floods washed them onto the treeless sandbar. That is when heplant

around 20 bamboo seedlings on the sandbar and turned his sadness into action. He watered them every morning and evening, expanded the land until it was a huge bamboo thicket (丛) covering an area of over 74 1 acres. But his commitment didn’t stop here. He then began to collect and plant a wide range of tree species, and transported red ants from his village to thesandbar as they change the soils qualities. Despite the constant bites, discomfort and longtravels. he persevered. He shows a deep understanding of the ecological balance of life whichhas enabled him to create this self functioning forest.

His efforts became known to the authorities in 2008, when forest department officials went to the area in search of a herd of 115 elephants that had returned to the forest after damaging possessions in the villageof Aruna Chapori. which is about 1, 5 km from the forest. The officials were surprised to see such a large and thick forest and since then the departmenthas often visited the site.

According to a study that was performed by a group of researchers from Berlin, Germany,helping out occasionally with childcare can be beneficial for seniors. In fact. those

who babysittheir grandchildren every once in a while and stick around for cookie making, bedtime storiesand other activities tend to live longer than those who don’t. These findings were drawn from data on more than 500 people aged over 70, showing that caregiving keeps caregivers physically and mentally active and even helps reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Most importantly, having a close relationshipwith their grandchildren or just being in their grandchildren's life makes them happier and lesslikely to develop depression
