Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary?

It is supported by a majority of people that it is necessary for students to take part in oral English tests. On one hand, with the rapid and remarkable social reform bringing new ideas and concepts into people’s life, it is generally accepted that people can improve their English by taking such exams, which is of the utmost significance. On the other hand, under current circumstances where the society is advancing, the information available concerning oral English learning leaves people to conclude that people who take part in oral English tests communicate more easily than those who do not.

However, others hold an opposite opinion. For one thing, as is proposed by experts, especially those who are associated with education, there is no denying the fact that oral English tests do not help people enhance their English. For another, it is revealed in a recent survey concerning the effects of oral English tests that it is very rarely that such tests help people exchange ideas with foreigners, which leads to their objections to them.

My View on Job Hopping

It is supported by a majority of people that it is advisable for white-collars to change their jobs at times. On one hand, with more and more people adopt different ways for enhancement of their living status, it is generally accepted that people who change their jobs frequently can earn more money than those who do not, which is of the utmost significance. On the other

hand, under current circumstances where the society is advancing, the information available concerning job changing leaves people to conclude that people, especially the youngsters who are confronted with the changing society, can gain more experience by changing their jobs than those who stay at their positions all the time.

However, others hold an opposite opinion. For one thing, as is proposed by experts, especially occupational consultants who are associated with career planning, there is no denying the fact that changing jobs do not really help people increase their incomes. For another, it is revealed in a recent survey concerning the effects of frequent job change that it is very rarely that such changes help people become sophisticated in their positions, which leads to their objections to them.

The problem of fake commodities, which is taking place all over China where the economy is developing in the days when globalization is coming, is arousing public concern, especially widespread anxiety among economists who are confronted with this problem. The number of fake commodities is increasing sharply with more and more people buying them.

This phenomenon may induce a number of severe consequences, of which the following two are the most critical. For one thing, in the context of society developing rapidly, as is claimed by experts, fake commodities are

disturbing the market order because their number is increasing sharply, which is imposing a series of grave impacts on the society. For another, under current circumstances where people more value the quality of life, it is generally acknowledged that fake commodities are severely affecting people’s life because they are of poor quality.

Were the trend to continue, it is predictable that fake commodities would bring about a sequence of severe consequences. It is vital that we take effective measures to prevent the trend from continuing.

【Reading selectively or extensively】

We should choose to read books selectively, or extensively instead, a question that evokes a widespread discussion among people who are concerned about the issue.

It is supported by a majority of people that it is necessary for people to read selectively. On one hand, with more and more people selecting books concerning their majors only, it is generally accepted that people can learn professional knowledge by reading such books, which is of the utmost significance. On the other hand, under current circumstances where the society is advancing, the information available concerning reading books leaves people to conclude that

people who read selectively are commonly more occupied with their jobs than people who read a variety of books.

However, others hold an opposite opinion. For one thing, as is proposed by experts, especially those who are associated with education, there is no denying the fact that professional books do not necessarily provide people with professional knowledge. For another, it is revealed in a recent survey concerning the arrangement of reading that it is very rarely that there is no time available for reading, which leads to the objections to reading with selection.

As far as I am concerned, it is preferable to choose one’s own favorite books to focus on reading. The reason for my choice is simply that I can indeed gain a great deal of knowledge from such books.

The past decade has witnessed a dramatic change of people’s attitudes towards travelling abroad. It can be seen from the chart that the number of people going overseas in city X was on a sharp rise and reached over 120,000 in 2005, which is already twelve times as many as that a decade ago, while there was a slight increase by merely less than four times half a decade ago.

This phenomenon can be ascribed to a number of reasons, of which the following two may be the most critical. For one thing, with policy of opening the door to the outside world being well implemented in China, people nowadays, as is proposed by local media, earn more money than they used to, which is of the utmost significance. As a result, the number of people going abroad for sightseeing is on a sharp rise. For another, with the rapid and remarkable social reform bringing new ideas and concepts into people’s life, it is generally accepted that travelling in foreign countries can bring people a lot of fun. There is no denying the fact that this attracts more people to go overseas.

Never in the history has the trend of travelling abroad been more popular than at present. It is obvious that it is bound to bring about a sequence of far-reaching influences in China. It is vital that we respect our own country and culture while admiring the foreign nations. Only in this way can a harmonious society develop.
